  1. John,Before you bow out, consider how many people didn't know about this announcement at CES and found it very interesting. I'm one of those people. Without your link, I wouldn't have watched the Dell keynote presentation and discovered all the cool new gadgets that are in development for 2006.So don't let a few people that need to make themselves look good by slamming someone else end your forum postings. This thread has had 481 visits when I wrote this. I'm sure the info you provided to that many readers far outweighs the few people that have intellectual esteem problems.I hope you decide to stick around and and post again.Bruce
  2. These challenges are interesting, but each new challenge should start in a new message thread. Much too confusing to follow multiple challenges in the same thread.Bruce
  3. Ryan,I doubt the 200-300fps myself, but I do remember reading that FSX was moving away from being CPU bound and placing more emphasis on the GPU. In another thread there was a comment about FSX supporting SLI via the operating system. It seems like FSX is going to "outsource" the tasks rather than try to handle everything itself.Bruce
  4. Baker Bulldogs OSAA schedule?Tom, you certainly do find your way to some of the remote parts of the world.Hope you enjoyed the holidays with your family.Bruce
  5. I agree! All of my CTDs were related to corrupt aircraft texutre files.Only happens when the aircraft is displayed, even if it's 30 miles out on approach.Bruce
  6. Looks like the Fokker is still sitting on the storage ramp at Calgary with a couple of US Air jets. They were suppose to fly between Calgary and Toronto using the all business class configuration 48 seats with 4 flight attendants - very nice! Terminal service was suppose to be via executive FBO lounges and not the terminals.I can't find anything that explains the delay. The website is still active, although it has no schedule and they are asking for resumes. The name implies a charter service - Platinum Jet Air Charters, Inc.Maybe someone in the Calgary area has more news.
  7. Chris,I also use Flightaware plans, but I don't like to lose the extra functions that FSBuild gives me, like fuel loads and winds aloft data. Here's what I do:I start ASv6 and let it download the latest weather. I then save the wx file so it can be read by FSBuild.I open flightaware and copy the flight plan to the clipboard. Then I start FSBuild and paste the clipboard into the light blue FLIGHT PLAN text box. I edit the pasted text to add the departure and destination airports since FSBuild requires them ... in your example the text would read KPHX CHILY1 IGM TYSSN1 KLASI then enter the cruise flight level stated in the flight plan into the FSbuild Cruise text box. Clicking the build button writes my PLN file and produces my flight release sheet.I then import the plan into ASv6 and process. Start FS9 and presto, the best of ASv6, FSB, Flightaware, and FS9 without having to restart FS9 to load the textures.Bruce
  8. Scott,It appears you got everything answered other than where to get the flight plans yourself.Try flightaware.com It's not the easiest to navigate, but if you know the flight numbers first, it's a snap.Bruce
  9. This topic seems to be moving away from FS General Discussion and into meteorolgy, specifically cloud mirophysics (probably more suited to the hanger chat forum). You mentioned many different topics in your reply, all related to my simple comment that water can be supersaturated before if condenses in the air, not on a surface (the rose petal). So without going into details, suffice it to say that water vapor will supersaturate in nature to levels near 120% when cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) are not present. The surface tension of a liquid water droplet is very resistent to the collection of water vapor, even when the vapor pressure equals the saturation vapor pressure, i.e., 100% relative humidity. I'm talking about simple condensation here, not the collision and coalescence you mentioned in your dicussion on precipitation. I thought it was interesting that in the laboratory, Wilson had the ability to purify the air to the point that he achieved 800% supersaturation. That is an amazing feat. With the availability of CCN, which can range from microscopic to sizeable, supersaturation only occurs at a few tenths of a percent before condesation occurs. Anyone looking closely at a ray of sunlight entering a room will see bits of dust and particles reflecting the sunlight as they float about the room. These are some of the particles that water vapor likes to seek out rather than try to stick to itself. So I was not referring to the Bergeron
  10. >> the dew point is the temperature at which, given the moisture content of the air, the air would be saturated and visible moisture will be present (rain, clouds, etc.).This is mostly correct in that the air is indeed saturated, but not necessarily when visible moisture is present. A surface has to be present for the water vapor to collect and condense, similar to how rose petals were mentioned earlier. In regular air, condensation nuclei (solid particles suspended in the air like sea salt, combustion products, etc.) has to be present for condensation to occur. If the air is extremely clean, like at very high altitudes, the air may become "supersaturated" with the relative humidity exceeding 100%.C.T.R. Wilson invented an instrument called a cloud chamber in which clouds can be manually made. He discovered that in pure, clean air the relative humidity must reach 800% before water drops form.
  11. Unfortunately, that is only going to provide the data for flights originating inside US airspace (SFO-NRT leg). He will need assistance from another flight planning site for flights originating outside US airspace to get the NRT-SFO plan.
  12. Yes, what Patrick said... :-) The aircraft type is H/A332/Q, which translates to a Heavy Airbus 330-200 with Q "type" navigational equipment. For more information on the equipment suffix, refer to this FAA update:http://www.gofir.com/general/rvsm/aircraft...ment_suffix.htmBruce

  14. Koen,I did some research when I could not find any Island Air flight plans, either.IATA: WPICAO: MKUCallsign is MokuThe official name is Hawaii Island Air, Inc., doing business as Island Air. They are an independent commuter airline owned by Gavarnie Holding, LLC., serving interisland flights in Hawaii.Originally started in 1980 as Princeville Airways to fly Princeville Resort guests between Kauai and Honolulu, the airline was acquired by Aloha Air Group in 1987 and renamed to Island Air. Gavarnie Holding purchased the airline in 2004.Aloha Air group converted the fleet from Twin Otters to 8 DH8A, and this month, Gavarnie is leasing an additional 2 DH8D Q400s.Flightaware shows the airline as "Island Air Honolulu, Hi)", but no flights and no plans. My other flight plan sources don't even indicate that DH8's fly between the islands. It's almost as of the flights are blocked. Very strange indeed! The Island Air website is active and indicates a current schedule. Since there is a code share arrangement with Aloha Airlines, I've search for AAH code shares and still came up empty.Bruce

  18. Try visiting the The Flight Plan Forum here at AVSIM. You'll find real trans-Atlantic routes and you won't have to fool around with the built in planner!Bruce
  19. Actually, back in 2001 USPS and FedEx formed an alliance.Info is here http://www.bizjournals.com/memphis/stories.../08/daily9.htmlBruce
  20. Time to take a step back and understand how AI are assigned to parking spots. The radius variable in the aircraft model file determines where the aircraft parks. If the airport is designed so that there are no parking spaces with a large enough radius, the AI aircraft will disappear once it comes to a full stop on the runway. That may explain why you see no other 777 traffic at the airport. If there are parking spots that accommodates the aircraft's radius, then the other variables become active, such as GATE or RAMP, airline code, etc. ATC will assign the parking to fulfill as many of the parameters and possible. As a user aircraft, you will not disappear when parking spots are not available for the size of your aircraft, but ATC will still try to assign you to the slot that most closely matches your parameters. If all spots other than the GA ramp are filled, you will be assigned to the GA ramp. The AFCAD program by Lee Swordy (available in the AVSIM library) is a great utility to show you the layout of FS airports. You can see how many parking spots are available, what type of aircraft they accommodate, and the airline codes. You can also modify the airports by adding more slots, change taxiways, etc.My suggestion, if you don't want to mess with AFCAD, is to go to the extended search function of the AVSIM library and enter Flight Simulator 2004 - AFCAD Files into the Category section. Then search for the airport name in the Name and/or Description section. If someone has modified the default FS airport you designate, it's most likely going to have the correct number of parking spaces for the types of aircraft that use that airport. If you download and install one of these modified files, you'll see much more traffic at the airport and ATC will assign you to the gate rather than the GA ramp (assuming all the 777 spots are not taken).Hope this helps. If not ask and I'm sure someone will help you out.Bruce

  22. Don,You did say freeware and krocav8or's link sends you to the freeware version of FSBuild. It autoroutes your trip and converts to PLN format for FS. You mentioned BGL, but I think you meant PLN.Bruce
  23. Kenny,This topic has been thoroughly discussed on this forum since the product's release. Do a search and you'll get lots of great info.Bruce
