Sliding Sideways On Takeoffs/landings
Could it have been this fairly recent one? (which itself contains one or two links):http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=66785&hl=

FSX needs a ...
My own curiosity led me to http://www.sstsim.com/services/news.php & http://www.flightsimlabs.com/Aircraft/Conc...X/Features.aspx. Looks pretty interesting. Don't see anything about a release date though.

Slippery Runways!
Thanks for the suggestion, Dave. However you'll see from my other response that my issue was a lack of controllers rather than an excess!

Slippery Runways!
Thanks for the responses so far. Though not quite what I was expecting (I was expecting config tweaks), the comments have been pretty helpful.Kevin: I'm running the deluxe edition, and I have SP2 installed. I get the problem with most aircraft, and currently only fly the default aircraft. I'll choose the C172, as I commonly fly it, and know this happens with that aircraft. My typical landing speed will be around 60KIAS.Your next suggestion was the one which helped me the most, as I was not using any input device! I was being ultra lazy and using the keyboard :-) Your question prompted me to take down the Saitek X52 off the shelf and give it a try. And while I haven't got all the controls (or sensitivities) sorted out quite yet, I was quickly convinced that my issue was caused by trying to use the keyboard. Crikey, I even managed to land the Airbus manually on the first try. (OK, I took a chunk out of the perimeter fence at EGLL, but I'll pay for it). It seems perhaps that keyboard controls are not best optimised, especially when it comes to landing/taxying.Your (and others') additional comments encouraged me in that the problem lay with my use of the product rather than the product itself. Now if I can just spend a bit of time with the setup of the X52, I'm sure all will be well.In response to others:Geofa: I was using correct "yoke" deflection for xwind as far as possible with the keyboard, though xwind appears to be too dynamic to "chase" with keyboard controls. With the joystick this is instinctive, and therefore *much* easier. Of course if weather is turned off altogether, braking can be done in a straight line even with keyboard controls :-)Ron: Actually I'm trying to get to grips with reality rather than turn it down, though I take your point :-)Jeff: Again, your response was encouraging, as you indicated that your own experience was the opposite of what I was finding. I think I now know why. I also appreciated your notes on CxG, and will look forward to trying out the DC-3 with the Saitek. Thanks once again to all!--Neil.

Slippery Runways!
I'm sure this must have been covered, but I'm not having much luck searching. URLs to previous topics will therefore be gratefully received & read! All my standard aircraft seem to land on ice, whatever the weather. That is to say, having landed, the slightest input to rudder causes the aircraft to slide wildly around, specially during braking.I think I once read that the same flight model is used both for flight and taxying, but is there some configuration that can be adjusted to make my undercarriage stick to the runway a little more like rubber should? Thanks!

Paging File Experts Chime In !??!
Just to add to the mix ...My belief is that such tweaks as these offer less of a performance benefit as hardware performance improves with time (drives, cache-sizes etc.) That said, it never hurts to squeeze even the tiniest extra performance out of your system :-)Yes, in theory having the paging file on a separate drive (or possibly better on a separate IDE channel, or even controller, to take things to extremes!) releases the system drive for alternative activity.Additionally, you mention that you allow WIndows to size the paging file. A further optimisation you might like to try would be to size it manually, and make the min size and max size equal (say 2GB).

Could flights saved become part of the scenery?
Interesting idea :-)Though there may be potential for eddies in the virtual space-time continuum ...

Chasing Steve Fossett - Virtual Global Flyer
At the risk of posting a dupe, I thought there might be others who'd be interested to try a non-stop around the world flight in the Virtual Virgin Atlantic Global Flyer: http://www.virginatlanticglobalflyer.com/S...ation/vVAGF.jspIf you'd like to track Steve's progress: http://www.virginatlanticglobalflyer.com/M...cking/index.jspHe only left Cape Canaveral about an hour ago (at 12:22 GMT), so if you get cracking, maybe you can get to Manston before him :-)

Sudden speed changes cause overspeed crash
Thanks for the responses, guys. FSUIPC was worth checking out, though it seems (in vn 3.53 anyway) ro require registration (20 Eurobucks) before I can use it to smooth wind transitions ... unless there are separate utilities that use the FSUIPC module to do this, and I will look further.I had hoped maybe there was a setting in fs9.cfg that equated to Weather - Rate of Change, that would enable a setting between "mild" (my current setting) and zero, but see nothing obvious. Or maybe this setting won't help anyway. If I don't find anything, until the next release I may just return to the Baron for now!

Sudden speed changes cause overspeed crash
Flying the 747 on autopilot in FS2004, I am experiencing occasional sudden jumps in speed. Although the autothrottle usually corrects these in time, every now and then the change is enough to cause a crash due to airframe stress, as the autothrottle cannot correct the speed in time.As an example, this morning, with cruise set to M0.88, the speed suddenly changed to M1.04 with an overspeed warning. As I was sitting nearby, I was able to disengage autothrottle and throttle back manually, but what usually happens is that the flight crashes and resets.I'm wondering if this might be something to do with real weather, e.g. sudden changes in wind direction/speed, or air pressure. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, have you found a solution? Thanks :-)
