  2. I tried raising this issue with Phil Taylor (of ACES team) via email. However, no response. I imagine that he and his colleagues are focusing on more fundamental issues (or perhaps still checking out to see if this is an nvidia issue ... quite a few of the people reporting this CTD have an nvidia 7800 gtx). Either way, I agree that it is most frustrating to have only restricted use of FSX - especially in relation to addons like LevelD 767. I live in hope that someone will sort this out and let us know of the cause/remedy.Simon (YSSY)
  3. Many have this experience with FSX, I regret to say. Many people are awaiting further updates of software to resolve what is an annoying experience. Sorry not to be able to suggest a solution but, as yet, there does not seem to be one at hand.Simon (YSSY)
  4. Hi ChrisJust to confirm that disabling land details texture, in FSX, worked for me, too, in and around YSSY. Just out of interest, what is the effect of disabling this feature on the sim?RegardsSimon (YSSY)
  5. Hi - just to let you know that the identical anomaly occurs in the waters of Botany Bay - surrounding YSSY.Best wishesSimon (YSSY)
  6. Having successfully installed SP1 (and FSUIPC latest version), i now find that FSX will start and run normally unless I have plugged in my Logitech Wingman joystick into a USB port. If the joystick is plugged in then FSX starts to load then completely shuts down. On the other hand, FSX starts perfectly without the joystick and will recognise the device if it is plugged into the USB port after FSX has loaded. Any ideas abou what might be happening ee?ThanksSimon
  7. I have the same problem - a VAS will bring FS9 to desktop. However, like MArtin this is easily rectified with a mouseclick. The only time when this can be tricky is when a VAS is generated close to the rwy threshold when landing.RegardsSimon
  8. I have contacted FSHotSFX support - and have alerted them to the problem. They have offered a couple of suggestions - neither of which solved the problem. With luck, they are trying to track down the cause of the problem. If I have any luck, then I will post a response.RegardsSimonps. Looks like i could be in for a long night of editing aircraft.cfg files!
  9. Thanks Asim (8BALL). I have looked at this file, However, it seems to require a significant amount of editing of aircraft cfg files. Still, it may be worth the effort.RegardsSimon
  10. Thanks for the suggestion Bob, I'll give it a go.RegardsSimon
  11. Hi BobThe problem that I have been experiencing is to do with the way FsHotSFX affects the operation of the PMDG 'Queen'. When FSHotSFX is enabled it seems to override one section of the comms - forcing the VOR/ADF tuner to the 'on' position - and this results in an unstoppable stream of morse 'beeps'. This occurs even when the aircraft settings are all set to 'silent' in the FSHotSFX config. Nothing I have been able to do has switched off the VOR/ADF tuner. If I do not start FSHotSFX, then all is fine aboard the 'Queen'. If you have any thoughts about how to resolve this issue, then please advise.I really like the effects provided by FSHotSFX - but if I have to choose between it and the PMDG 747, then I'm afraid that FSHotSFX will have to come a close second. And this means asking about a suitable alternative.ThanksSimon
  12. I understand that FSHotSFX provides good AI sound improvements (spooling jet engines, reversers etc). However, the program is not always compatible with other add-ons. So, I wonder if anyone can recommend alternative programs to enhance the airport sound environment? Thanks.Simon Longstaff
  13. Edwin - thanks for the advice and for the links. I will see how I go with the stress tests and check back if all is OK in general - and if the problem persists in FS9.RegardsSimon
  14. Hi AllFS9 is running on a Pentium 2.4 with 1 gig of RAM and a Leadtek 6600GT with AGP8X - SB Live! 5.1 surround ...Until recently this setup may have huffed and puffed a little - however, it seldom failed (even when running ASV-enhanced, LevelD 767, FSSFX, and CH yoke, pedals and throttle quad. However, I have recently purchased PMDG747 'Queen' and Captain Sim C130. Somewhere along the line, my setup has discovered the habit of 'freezing'. The graphics freeze, the keyboard locks and a really irritating high pitched 'whine' comes from the sound card. I have updated sound card drivers and video drivers. I have tried running FS9 without any other elements (ASV etc) started.Still - about 10 mins into a session, I freeze.Any suggestions about what is happening and how it might be fixed would be welcome.MAny thanks.Simon

  16. Chris3D Clouds Texture = 1.62 Gig. Does this sound about right?mip.bat is in correct place. It must be OK - from what I can tell. Do you agree? Thanks for this.RegardsSimon
  17. Hi ChrisI followed your outline for installing 512Mb textures - and then converting to mip maps. However, in the course of doing so, I received the following error message:Delete the old flag 2108C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActive Environment c:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASVActive Environmentmip.bat OK?I said OK - and the process seemed to complete - saying all textures converted.Should I do anything else?ThanksSimon
  18. Thanks for the responses. Flaps setting has been entered in FMC - but problem remains. However, looks like the problem might lie on my machine. Have also noticed truly bizarre calculations in the FMC re. speed constraints etc - so perhpas there is a larger issue for me to solve.RegardsSimon Longstaff

  20. Hi - I have noticed that since installing FS2Crew toe PMDG FMC can no longer 'autofill' the calculations forV1, V2 etc on the 'Takeoff' page. This seems to be the case - even if FS2Crew has not been configured for a particular flight. Is this normal - or a minor bug? Any suggestions for how to work around problem when FS2Crew not being used for a particular flight?ThanksSimon Longstaff
  21. Hi KenThanks for the great program. One question, having configured FSAustostart I seem to have caused a loss of the desktop icons and taskbar (which means that I cannot start additional programs like ActiveSky etc.) Can you please advise me of what I have done wrong?ThanksSimon Longstaff
  22. Thanks to all who have posted advice - as this has solved the problem for me. As suggested, I did the following:1. Reassigned axes and buttons in FS9 - so that all were properly distributed across CH Yoke, TQ and Pedals. I did this in stages (saying OK after each element was assigned, and then re-opening the assignments tab) as this seemed to help ensure that no confused entries in the underlying cfg file.2. Checked and reset (where necessary) all sensitivity and null settings. The TQ settings were either set at zero by FS9 or at a reduced level (ie <100%). Once all set at sensitivity=100% and null zone=0, then all TQ axes operating properly in FS9.3. Used CHMgr program to change the throttle settings to show a setting of 240 (not 255) for detent. Mixture and prop left at 155.4. Used FSUIPC throttle settings to calibrate throttles. FSUIPC allows for multiple throttles (page 3, I think) and also anticipates a setting for reverser. It is essential that you 'click' twice on the middle setting (for upper and lower values) when the throttle is in the detent. After all of this, the King Air operated perfectly - with full control over mixture, props and throttle (including reverser).I am now ready to embark on the next phase of developing maps etc. for my PMDG 737NG and other aircraft. Thanks for the help.RegardsSimon
  23. I cannot find any reference in my FS9.cfg to 'Joysticks LOCKED= ". Do you know what setting gave rise to that line in the FS9.cfg?ThanksSimon
