  1. Thanks @odourboy! I briefly tried MSFS 2020 last night and OMG, silky smooth with the default settings. I didn't even bother to tweak them because first time running MSFS 2020 and I have no clue what to look for as far as settings. I did notice most of them said Ultra. You know of any must go-to guide for tweaking the settings? I shouldn't bother with them until I get the VR headset?
  2. Good to know! Thanks! Actually, our trainers have upgraded engines (180hp) and according to the revised W&B sheet, it has a basic empty weight of 1,600 lbs and useful load of 949 lbs. Putting it at 2,549 lbs... I guess other than not having a carb heat, the stock C172S will be good enough for me. 🫡🤣
  3. Yup, got the latest WT GNS530 installed. I'll speak with the mechanic today and see what the main differences would be from the stock C172S vs our C172N, besides the normally aspirated vs fuel injected engine. Flight model should be the same, I would think. I think I read somewhere there is an addon for the stock C172S that makes it more realistic. You know anything about that, Bert?
  4. Maybe not that much difference for me to even worry about it LOL I believe the engine is different but now that I remember, the trainer I use has an updated Lycoming 180HP engine. So technically not much different than the stock C172SP in MSFS 2020. Although the stock 172SP is fuel injected, while my C172N trainer is carburated and has carb heat, which the stock C172SP does not. That's the biggest difference that stands out to me.
  5. Hello all, I'm currently in flight training with a Cessna 172N that has analog gauges and a Garmin GNS530. I was hoping to be able to practice on MSFS 2020 but I prefer to use a plane that closely matches my real world trainer. I did get the GNS530 addon for the stock Cessna 172SP but I really want a Cessna 172N. Is there any payware or freeware Cessna 172N that is compatible with MSFS 2020? I wonder if the Carenado C172N can be used with MSFS 2020. I've been out of the scene for so long, that I really have no idea what's popular, and what's not. Thanks in advance for any tips and help.
  6. Thanks for all the help and advice, guys! I finally finished building my new PC last night, fired it up and did a fresh install of Win 11 and MSFS 2020. Now I'm just waiting on my pedals, yoke, throttle and VR headset! I ended up with the following system: GAMING PC CASE: Corsair 5000D iCUE RGB mid tower CPU: AMD Ryzen 7800x3D CPU RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 32GB DDR5 6000 CL30 MOBO: ASUS TUF Gaming B650-PLUS WiFi GPU: ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 4090 OC 24GB DISPLAY: ASUS TUF Gaming 28" 4K 144HZ monitor STORAGE: Samsung 980 PRO 2TB NVMe PSU: MSI MPG A1000G ATX 3.0 PSU COOLING: Corsair iCUE H150i Elite LCD XT CPU liquid cooler OS: Windows 11 Home FLIGHT SIM: MSFS 2020 PERIPHERALS YOKE: Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Edition THROTTLE: Honeycomb Bravo Quadrant PEDALS: Thrustmaster TFRP VR HEADSET: Pimax Crystal
  7. I'm in PCPartPicker right now and will definitely check out your case and suggestions! Oh my, tell me about it! I've been watching YT videos and VR is definitely not plug and play! 🤣 Gonna have my hands full for sure. Speaking of, I might just have to go for 64GB of RAM. I plan on running many addons at once such as a VATSIM client, etc, so I don't want to skimp on RAM while it's still considerably cheap nowadays.
  8. How's the noise though? Although since we are simulating an airplane setup, background electrical and wind noise adds more to the realism! 🤣 Thanks for the tips, my friend! You and @turbomax have been amazing! 💪🏼
  9. Ok @turbomax @odourboy Here is my current tentative PC build: CASE: Corsair 4000D Mid-Tower ATX CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU COOLER: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 MOBO: GIGABYTE X670 AORUS Elite AX RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO CL30-38-38-96 GPU: PNY nVidia RTX 4090 24GB XLR8 PSU: MSI MPG A1000G PCIE 5 ATX 3.0 SSD: (2) Samsung 980 PRO SSD M.2 Gen 4 1TB Good to go?
  10. I might not be the best to rely on for an honest review because this would be my very first PC VR experience. 🤣 But I will definitely call it like it is and not sugar coat it. If I don't like it, I'm getting my money back. No word not allowed or vendor influenced biased here. 🤣 My only VR experience was about 3-4 years ago with the Playstation VR headset and Ace Combat 7. I really really loved it! The only reason I got rid of it was because I was always getting nauseous (sp?) after 15 minutes of flying like a maniac dogfighting.
  11. @turbomax @odourboy Guys, I went ahead and preordered the Pimax Crystal! Online reviews on YouTube are also raving about it, especially those that have been testing the latest pre-release version. I'll post in a few minutes my latest PC build draft and see if you guys agree it's a good build for MSFS 2020 and the Pimax Crystal. 💪🏼
  12. Gotcha! That's an excellent point. What good is it to have a good pov and resolution but the thing weighs like a motorcycle helmet made of kevlar! 🤣 I think I might just get the HP G2 for now and see how it goes. Once the Crystal comes over, whenever that is, I can consider that option as well. I've read that the HP G2 is more compatible with MS windows something, I can't remember the term right now lol Ha! I didn't know it was discontinued! Glad I know now. Like you, I stay away from discontinued products.
  13. I saw on Pimax's website that their release date for the Pimax Crystal is June 30th, or is that the latest date to pre-order? If June 30th is the release date, then I'll just wait and get the Crystals. I wouldn't mind going for the Reverbs but I just saw their pov is 96~ degrees. I would prefer it be much wider than that. Is pov that much of an impact on visuals and immersion? I was also thinking about the Pimax Vision 8K X.
  14. Yea, I looked at your sig and was pleased to see that my tentative build was almost exactly as yours! 💪🏼 What about the choice of VR headset with the HP Reverb G2, @turbomax ? BTW, if it matters at all, I will be using a LG 55C1PUB OLED TV as my "monitor". It has HDMI 2.1 ports and is 120Hz natively. It's where I also game with my Xbox Series X. 🙃
  15. @odourboy Hey my friend, this is what I'm looking at so far: CASE: HYTE Y60 CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D MOBO: NZXT N7 B650E - N7-B65XT-W1 RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO Series 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin SDRAM DDR5 6000 CL30-40-40-96 GPU: ASUS TUF GeForce RTX® 4090 PSU: MSI MPG A1000G PCIE 5 & ATX 3.0 VR HEADSET: HP Reverb G2 VR Headset with Controller, Adjustable Lenses & Speakers from Valve, 2160 x 2160 LCD Panels What you think? Am I on the right track for a VR gig for MSFS 2020 only?
  16. That's what I was afraid of, Odour! 🤣 I am currently going through PPL and Instrument Rating concurrently and that is going to empty my bank account as well, so it's a juggling act. Of course I favor real world training but I know how much simming does help, especially when it comes to IFR training. Ok, so a 4090 GPU and AMD 7800x3D it is. As for RAM, I'm guessing 64GB? Any mobo/RAM combination to look for especially for mating with the 7800x3D? My current PC has an SSD and SSD M.2 drives which I can reuse with the new build and some some money. I will probably need a new power supply as well as a new case. As for the goggles, you said you went with the Pico 4 as a stop gap, so with that being said, which ones are the go to goggles for the best experience? Sorry for so many questions, I'm so rusty with the latest hardware!
  17. Hello all! Man it's been AGES since I last came here and posted. I have been super busy but finally resumed real world flight training and thinking of setting up a new flight sim PC for training on days the weather keeps me grounded. I would like to go the VR route though, so I would need to hear from you guys as to what type of CPU, motherboard, GPU, RAM, and VR set would be a good build. Also, is MSFS 2020 the go to sim now? I installed it on my current PC just to see how it is and I felt it's not as customizable as FSX back in the days. For instance, I wanted to save a cold and dark flight with the C172 at a certain location in the airport, but every time I choose that flight, it starts me off in the air already. Maybe I'm just lost and haven't quite figured it out yet. Anyway, I would love to hear some feedback on the above mentioned hardware so I can have a better idea of what I need. Thanks in advance!!!
  18. Hi @Rob Ainscough , I'm really looking forward to your reviews on both the 2080ti and the i9-9900K... I'm holding off on these before starting to build my new gaming PC!
  19. Awesome! I have added it to my Amazon/Newegg wish-list! I do agree with what you are saying though. Especially when paying top dollars for a very good motherboard and GPU.
  20. Just trying to be like you, @Rob Ainscough! LOL That is a very nice looking case indeed! You prefer horizontally mounted motherboards? Now that you mention that, I have never really given it much thought! Why do you prefer them like that? I really don't want to hijack this thread, so feel free to PM me if you want. Thanks brother!
  21. @Rob Ainscough What's a nice case for this system? I don't mind if it's a full tower case. Just one that can easily accommodate cooling solutions and future expansions. I couldn't care less about drive bays for blurays and DVDs because I don't have any use for those anymore. Just be a breeze to work with and spacious.
  22. WOW, San Juan 2000 and AirPUERTORICO!!! Great memories indeed, my friend! Yes, I will do exactly that. Wait a few more months for all new hardware to come out and capitalize on holiday specials.
  23. Thanks so much for this info, Chock. Being that VR and DCS is #1 on my wish list, I will definitely keep reading up to get myself up-to-speed while new hardware cycle approaches for both GPU and CPU. Christmas will definitely be a fun one for me and my hobby!
  24. That’s the purpose of asking, to get everyone’s different input. One of the suggestions was to purchase one from Jetline and I simply said that I could probably save some money by building it myself. I really don’t see “why you are wondering why ask in the first place”. Isn’t this what the forums are for? Ask everyone’s opinion and go with the one that suits you best or a combination of many suggestions.
