Wrong Runway Assignment
h.uslar replied to jboy92's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumJim, yes I usually do that if I see the T/O runway assigned by ATC is not the correct... the problem is when landing, because once FSX ATC assigns you a landing runway, they don't change it for you (even if they change it at some point for the AI). I have read through several posts in this forum and this seems to be one of the major problems with AS products, at least with the DWC (direct weather control)... Now, what i don't really understand are the differences with the DWC mode and standard mode (with the latter, it seems that the landing runway assignment problem is not an issue), but everyone recommends using DWC! Is there a simple comparison table of DWC and Standard mode, so we can get to know the pros and cons?? Regards, Henrique

Wrong Runway Assignment
h.uslar replied to jboy92's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumHi, I use ASE, and I get this all the time!!! I have the force destination wx checked, I always load a flight plan, and this happens moren than 50% of the time!!! Today I completed 2 flights, one landing in SBGL (RIO) and one landing at EDDF, and on both, although destination weather clearly suggested landing runways, I was directed by FSX ATC for the opposite runway. In the case of SBGL, I landed with a 10 knots tailwind!! Please, is there any way to solve this... this is extremely annoying... I guess that maybe extending the distance at which the destination WX is locked might be a solution, but that option is not possible, at least not through the program options (maybe through a CFG file or something) Regards, Henrique

New Laptop For FSX - Are This Specs Enough
Eric I just tried building one similar to yours in HP and I get a good price. My only concern however are the 1333 MHZ RAM Memory, and the Radeon graphic card, because I've heard that for FSX Nvidia works better... But i don't know if there is such a difference between faster ram and nvidia GPU...

New Laptop For FSX - Are This Specs Enough
Hi, thanks for the repliesDoes anyone knows of another high performance laptop builder I can check? As the most important thing for me is to run FSX as fast as possible and many of the gaming laptops out there are designed for other "more commercial" game titles... and it is my understanding that FSX, besides a good graphic card and good memory, needs processor speed rather than multiple cores.. is that correct? The thing is, when I bought my XPS 720 desktop 4 years ago, just after 3 months I moved to another country for a year and a half on a work assignment, and I couldn't take my computer with me... So I pretty much lost it's first 2 years, which in computer time is a lot! I live in Venezuela, and plans are to be moving to Europe this year to study for a year, and afterwards who knows where destiny is going to take me. Another issue, here in Venezuela we have 110V as in the US, and you get 220V in Europe... so I need something that works on both...Laptops generally do, don't they?.Rgds

New Laptop For FSX - Are This Specs Enough
HiI am planning to buy a Laptop to replace my 4 year old DELL XPS system, and to be used primarily for FSX, other games and as a desktop replacement.I've read a lot and I know (or think) it's better and cheaper to go for a custom built desktop, but provided I am travelling a lot and planning to move more than once a year in the following years, I have been thinking about a laptop as a solution. So, let's say budget is around 2.000 US$ +/- 15%, and I want to run FSX as smoothly as possible with several high end addons and crowded skies (AI). I went to XoticPc and tried and tested a custom built using ASUS G74SX as a base. It's priced at 2322 US$ and these are the specs: Do you think this will do the job??Thanks - 17.3" FHD 16:9 "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Glossy Screen (1920x1080) (SKU - X1R502) - ASUS Zero Bright Dot (ZBD) 30 Day Pixel Guarantee - (Included on ASUS Standard NON-Upgraded Displays) - 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-2860QM, 2.5-3.6GHz, (32nm, 8MB L3 cache) (SKU - X2R209) - Stock OEM Thermal Compound ( IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU Provided FREE with Processor Upgrade!) - nVidia GeForce GTX 560M 3,072MB PCI-Express GDDR5 DX11 (SKU - X3R602) - 12GB DDR3 1600MHz CL9 Dual Channel Memory (3x4GB SODIMMS) (SKU - X4N233)

Please Advice: Upgrading DELL XPS 720
MikeThanks for your short reply. I'd love to build a new system but this one still does a great job (at least with fs9)... and when i got for the first time 3 years ago it wasn't cheap at all :o !!! But now that you suggest it, for how much you could get a super system at this time... or in toher words, is there a configuration that will run FSX full (including full traffic, complex add ons?Or... how much imporvement could i get with a full upgrade and how much could it cost me?Sorry for so many questions!Rgds,

Unable to store downloaded weather (for offline flying)
Hi,I have no internet connection at home so I am trying to download the weather files on my office PC (AS installed there too) to later load them on my home PC.However. I proceed as follows. -I click the download weather button. -Select the day and hours of eather I want to download and -hit the Download archive Button. -It reads "Downloading wx data from HIFI.. 00Z" then 01Z and so forth until it apparently downloads everything. Then a Dialog screen appears saying "Archive set downloaded for xx/xx/xx. ooz hour will start the sequence, and fs time will automatically be set"I hit ok and when I try to find the file on Windows Explorer I'm unable to do so.I'm wondering: 1.)where does AS6 store the downloaded weather files?2.)What should I do Once the file is donwloaded (In order to load it to my home PC)ThanksRgds,Henrique

BUYING MY DREAM SYSTEM FOR FSX
Hi guys!I finally went for the Dell. I haven't get it yet, but these are the specs: 1 222-9472 Intel Core2 Extreme processor QX6700 (2.93GHz, Factory Overclocked ) w/Quad Core Technology and 8MB cache $3929.00 1 311-7249 4GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz $0.00 1 320-5185 768MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX $0.00 1 341-4828 WD, Raptor 160GB NCQ 10K SATA Hard Drive w/16MB DataBurst 1 420-6541 Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, English 1 313-5448 16X DVD-ROM and 16X DVD+/-RW $0.00 1 313-5450 X-Fi PCI Sound Card $0.00 1 313-4722 Dell WL6000 120V 6.1 Stereo Speakers with Subwoofer $0.00 1 341-4850 320GB NCQ Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM) w/ 16MB DataBurst Cache $0.00 1 420-6917 Trend Micro PC-cillin InternetSecurity, English, 15-Month Subscription $0.00 What should i expect from this!!?? I am very exited but don't want "to count the chickens before the're born" (A local proverb)Also, the guys from dell made a mistake, and put 4 GB aof DDR2 SDRAM @ 800 Mhz instead of 2 Gb of Corsair Dominator OC to 1066 Mhz. I made the complaint, but they weren0t able to do the change before shipping and now I have to wait for my system, check it, and send it back if I want to replace the memory. Will I experience any important performance hit by this change (Its more memory but runs at a lower speed)??Also, I'm buying the monitor separetely. Should I go widescreen or not. Don't know if flight sim will look good on WS. What recommendations you have regarding this.Thnak you all guys for your recommendations. I'll be reporting once I get my hands on the system!!Regards,Henrique

Ok,You convinced me to go with a single video card! Also the 2 gigs of memory are ok. In case I need them in the future, I'd just be a minor investment.Rgds,Henrique

BUYING MY DREAM SYSTEM FOR FSX
>Henrique,>>Like you I'm not interested in buying parts and building a>box. I went for a Falcon Northwest rig (basic specs below)>which I'm quite happy with. Excellent tech support,>build-quality and warranty.JB,I just built a system at FN website with this config:ICON - Brushed AluminumICON Standard SolidSilverstone 750Watt Strider - ModularEVGA nVidia nForce 680I - SLIIntel Core 2 Quad Extreme X6700 2.66GHzZalman CNPS7000B-ALCU LED4GB Corsair Dominator 6400C4nVidia GeForce 8800GTX 768MBCreative Labs X-FiD Link WUA-2340 Rangebooster G/USB adapt No Raid Western Digital Raptor 150GB 16MB Cache Western Digital 250GB 16MB Cache SATA 2 Sony DRU830A 18X Dual Layer DVD+-RW No Floppy Drive Windows Vista Home Premium - 32 Bit Microsoft Keyboard 500 Black Logitech G5 Laser Mouse Viewsonic 22" - 1680x1050 Logitech Z-5500 Digital 5.1 U.S Robotics 56K V.92 USB External Faxmo Monster Power 800HP Falcon Northwest T-Shirt (LG)This for 5,905 Us$ !!!It seems to me a little overpriced! Anyway, If i went for the Dell, I don't think it wouldn't be such a bad choice. I already own a Dell system and it has been nice. I have to agree that their service is not the best. Anyway I live in Venezuela (And although I'm planning to buy the system in the US), I don't care that much about service since we almost get none over here!!True about the super system in 3 years. That is (as the post title suggest) just a dream!! But I want it at least to be running FSX with plenty of addons decently in 2 years (As my current PC is doing with FS9). Also, I still use FS9 so I imagine that such a system would definetly run FS9 like dream, won't it?Anyway. I'm still not 100% sure about going with single or dual Graphics Card or to go with or without 2 or 4 GB of Ram :-hmmm Rgds,Henrique

BUYING MY DREAM SYSTEM FOR FSX
>>For how much, would I be able to build>such a system (or better) by myself? >>Less than $2500 if you go for a single Graphics Card>>Not exact matches but close enough for comparison:Thanks Jim for the info! To that, I should add around 600-800 $ for the 24" LCD flat screen that was included with the Dell system, so it would be around 3k. Now, I have never built a system before. I consider myself good at building hardware stuff, but given the price of all these pieces, i would be a little afraid to mess it up. How difficult is it to build it by yourself? Now other questions: What difference will it make to have 4 GB of Ram instead of 2? Why wouldn't FSX take advantage of the dual video card? Or is just that the difference wouln't be worth the extra 600 bucks?Sorry guys for bothering you so much! I just want to spend my money as wisely as possible!Rgds,Henrique

BUYING MY DREAM SYSTEM FOR FSX
Hi guysI've already searched the forum in search of dream spec's to run FSX. And I've also read from many of you that FSX won't run as a dream on any system.Having said that, i'm looking for a commercial, already built, system (dell, alienware, your recommendations) that will run FSX "AS REAL AS IT GETS"I'm thinking for a system in the range of 3,500 - 5,500 Us$,almost exclusively (but not limited)for FSX. I want to make an investment (doesn't matter that todays app cant't take all advantage of the system) that will still be a super system in 2-3 years. Well, I am all ears!Thank you guys for your helpHenrique Uslar

FMC VNAV PROBLEM!!!
Hi,Well it seemed o be a software problem as FMC calculation appeared to be assuming fuel to be zero (hence that absurd fuel prediction at destination). What I did, was sving the flight and the panel state, loading another flight, an then reloading the flight again. That solved the problem. The FMC started recogniing fuel and doing fare predictions and vnav was available. Don't kow hoever how to explain what happened! Anyway the flight went on nicely! I agree with you about the fuel load. I landed at LFPG with 58 klbs on board!! I don't have that much time to make fuel calculations manually so I use the fuel calculator utility by Pierre Chevallier. Do you recommend me another utility for this? Thanks and regards,Henrique

FMC VNAV PROBLEM!!!
HiJust took off from SFO heading to LFPG. VNAV doesn't work, says "unable crz alt". I've set everything correctly, I've already checked the forum for similar problems and checked evry page on the FMC. It seems to be a problem with the fmc, because as you can see on th pic below, FMC fuel predfiction is: -2,200,000 Lbs at LFPG!!!!! This is just imposible!! Any help?RegardsHuc

Trim Strange Behaviour When Landing
The F/D remains on. I haven't tried with original fs airplanes to check if it has something to do with the way third parites use the a/p. I 've heard that this problem might have something to do with the a/p un trimming the plane or something like that, but i wonder if there is a succesful solution to this,Henrique

Trim Strange Behaviour When Landing
Hi,I am not new to flight simming, bit I've been absent (don't know if that's the right term) from this hobby for a while. I got back recently, purchased the Coolsky Super 80, read the manuals and started flying again! Anyway, the reason I am back on this forum is to seek some help. Let me try to describe the problem I am experiencing.I am on finals, with the a/p Loc and GS engaged. At some point, usually around 500 to 1000 feet I disconnect the a/p and fly the finals manually. The problems is that, around 100-200 feet from ground, the trim starts moving in a very strange manner, back and forth and i have to fight against it just as if some crazy guy was trying to bring the plane down. This is something that only happens when landing on an ILS equipped runway (and with the help from the a/p), and not when doing a complete manual visual landing. I do usually manage to gain control but this is really frustrating. I tried to get some help at the coolsky forum but it seems it's me the only one experiencing this. I not sure about this (it's been a long time), but I remember having experienced this sometime before either with FS 2002 or with FS 2004 (and having solved it, just don't remember how :)!)Hope someone could help me with this, thanks in advance,HenriqueCaracas, Venezuela

Crazy Passenger!
Thank you very much for your help.It sure seems to be an ATR issue! Will have to keep an eye on that and hope for F1 to solve that issue in next service pack!
