Thanks Jan. Unfortunately no sticker on my copy! Just restarted the download and says 2.7gb of update to download so pretty sure its not hitting the demo. Getting much better speeds now tho... still a 12 hour wait however @ 55 kbps. have emailed x-plane techs too.

Hi all, I received my hard copy of X-Plane 10 the other day and have installed the program last night. After several frustrating attempts at installation I downloaded the installer/updater from the X-plane 10 site and finally, successfully (i think!) installed the sim. After the installation the updater prompted that there were updates available so i proceeded to continue with the updates. The update is downloading INCREDIBLY slow although seems to be doing something. I have ADSL 2+ and generally download a lot of stuff and get speeds of 90+ kbps even with a couple of things downloading at the same time. Its not the fastest service but ok. My firewall is off and X-Plane 10 has access to internet through anti virus and my router. At this stage X-Plane 10 is downloading at approx 18kbps from 3 servers, estimating a 25 hour install time. Is there any reason that this would be chugging along so slow? very frustrating as I haven't had a chance to fire up the sim yet. I have included a screen shot of the updater and two separate speed tests. Any help/thoughts/advice would be welcomed! hey Jim,Yeah 3gb sorry. in matched pairs.Yes its a dell and trying to offload system bloats as we speak. it seems that i don't quite have full admin privileges even tho i have set my account up with full admin?? just flew yssy to ymml with acceptable frames and scenery after applying voz tweaks. rain on approach. on approach to ymml averaging about 20-30 fps after some tweaking. in flight maxing about 60fps. this is ok but going to try heathrow with weather and lots of ai....thanks for all your suggestions gents, much appreciated. may take me some time to get the full performance that i'm looking for....

Hi all, here's my system then my problem follows.Intel core2quad6600@2.4ghz(2400mhz)windows XP sp2 (will sp3 help?)GeForce 8800gt 512mb4gb RAMtotally new system with fresh re-install of fs2004 and my peripherals:- PMDG 737-800/900 (my main evil and mostly always what i fly)- fs2 crew for pmdg 737-800/900- VOZ 1.70 (new release and have previous versions) + other freeware scenery which ran fine on the old single core wind up machine eg isd project, mesh, andy weir, boston logan etc.- AS 6.5 (set to medium 218 x 218)- RC4- AIsmooth latest release (ai set to 73%)- FS auto start to shut down services- direct x 9.0c- settings within fs2004 are all set to medium/high (have played with these a lot)- have installed nHancer for nVidia and run my own profile with the following settings: aa: combined 8xS Gamma Correction af: 16x Texture Filtering: High Quality Trilinear Opt: OFF Anistrtopic Sample Opt: OFF Negative LOD BIAS: ClampWithin fs9: aa: OFF trilinear: on Target framerate: 40 settings: medium to high (nothing full to right) mipmap: 5 render lights: 5 render to texture: ON screen reso: 1650x1080@32 (which is my screen reso)My problem comes with my first flight from yssy to ymml (my preferred country of flying, VOZ 1.7 installed).ok framerates from outside view 30-40 fps (i believe i should get some more than this?)but from cockpit of pmdg i'm struggling to get 6 fps, sensationally worse than my old comp flying into heathrow with 90%ai traffic and thunderstorms.i haven't even installed all my ai yet and this machine is struggling to process it?i've tried various tweaks and nHancer but get no better results. i've read the forums and searched extensively but find no answers for a suitable set-up. can anyone help? to make matters worse my new computer turned up the day my first son decided to be born.... bad bloody timing!!!any help and advice/help greatly appreciated (for mine and my wifes sanity!)Chris

That was the first thing I checked! Yep, I've got full admin rights.I'm just going to try a fresh install of fs2004 then give it another go...Chris

hi all,migrated to a new machine the other day and have re-installed all my flight sim requirements apart from PMDG 737-800/900 boxed version (v 1.1)I load the disc up, hit set-up and the thing just sits there skipping C:WINDOWSfontslucon.ttf. when i check task manager the program is not responding. any ideas anyone? have read to boot and install in safe mode but this is a little far fetched. i have full admin rights on the machine.thanks,Chris

I've got the Wilco/Feelthere a320 package and am pretty disappointed. doesn't handle quite right and flight dynamics no where close to what they should be. I just keep coming back to the PMDG 737. Wait for the Airsimmer methinks. There's some good freeware products about that are much cheaper than the Wilco!Chris

howdy all,just a quick question.I own the pmdg 737 800/900 and am unable to save flights midway and restart with fmc in correct position. correct me if i'm wrong?i'm looking to purchase the 747. as the 747 is a long haul aircraft and i have limited time to fly am i able to save midway or at several points along the flight and resume with everything ok and/or in correct position (in regards to fmc)? my normal time per session is 1.5 to 2 hours and most of the 747 flights are well over this time limit.thanks in advance,Chris

I use a mesh by Holger Sandmann and Jonathande Ferranti. Works and looks pretty good. Its 38m Mesh using topo maps rather than SRTM Data. Do a search in avsim. haven't looked at any others recently- there may be better around now.Browny

Well, i'll hang about until at least SP1 for Vista is released then will be confident about its performance and security, then might upgrade, purchase and install it (looking at at least 12-16 months). Microsoft likes to use its customers as (beta) testers. i'll wait for all those buyers to (beta) test it for me. As others have said (or not):FS9:- sensational add-ons for reasonable prices- most of us have got it nicely tweaked for our machines (finally!)- good scenery (have seen some dx10 shots but who has those machines anyway?)- realism from add-ons (i'm running- rc4, pmdg 800/900, aismooth, various scenery addons mostly freeware- check out VOZ! looking at fs2crew at the mo...) - plenty of freeware for those of us who work a casual job- a little lacking in scenery detail but more than adequate/real with addon material (free and pay)- i could list more but the beer is making me sleepy...FSX:- Demo struggled on my machine (lack of RAM possible cause..not FSX)- can't see any real improvements apart from (well)detailed scenery (after running it on my mates "high end" machine)... but I'm after realism in the flight model...atc, sids, stars, real-life procedures, flight dynamics and responses, weather, cockpits - this hasn't really improved in FSX. i don't give a rats for a hang glider dropping balloons full of urine on platforms over the superbly detailed Appalachian ranges.- Adventures?!?!? what the?- it does have the A320, haven't found a good add-on for FS9 yet, free or pay. (suggestions welcome)- some addon developers only releasing for FSX (pmdg?) or are they rethinking this point?- need to spend lots on a machine/product/platform to get a little.....anywho,thats my beef,djbrowndog (Chris, VIC, AUS)mmmmmm.....BOAGS!
