  6. FS-FlightControl has announced Support for Prepar3D v5 Together with the official release of Prepar3D v5 today FS-FlightControl has released an update as well to support this major Prepar3D update: This enables connecting to Prepar3D v5, automatic path detections as well as support for the extended BGL scenery data format during database build. Being part of the Prepar3D v5 beta test group the FS-FlightControl team was able to work on compatibility from the very beginning and could ensure this way this update is ready today at the same time as the official Prepar3D v5 release. About FS-FlightControl FS-FlightControl, a touch-optimized Instructor Station for Prepar3D, FSX and X-Plane, assists Simulator Operators, Flight Simulation Enthusiasts as well as Home Simmers to get the most out of their flight simulator. The Instructor Station allows the user to set the aircraft on an approach to any airport runway, define weather conditions as well as trigger specific or choose random aircraft system failures. FS-FlightControl also comes with a very detailed moving map, optionally with street, satellite or height map background, including airport taxi way layouts. It includes the possibility to plan flights directly in FS-FlightControl with the option to exchange them with many relevant products. Furthermore, the flight and landing performance can be tracked and – also graphically – evaluated. More features are fuel and load planning, pushback control as well as remote controlling of network computers. 7. Cowan Simulation has released their Bell 222UT for XPlane The iconic helicopter was the chosen project for this team, which just entered the flight simulation market. The Bell 222 is one of the most recognized helicopters in the world and it was placed on the center stage by the TV show ‘Airwolf’ back in the 1980s. Being such an iconic helicopter, loved by many helicopter lovers around the world, Cowan Simulations decided to use it to debut their presence in the flight simulation market. After months of development, with the help of several real-world pilots, which have assisted and validated the development of this complex machine, version 1.0 is now out. This is an “always-in-progress” project. What this means is that, although this is not an early access add-on, it is only the first version as Cowan Simulations will continue to improve and update the model in the future. The team is counting on the feedback of the community to do so! Right now you will be presented with a remarkable list of features, which is the result of thousands of lines of code, many, many hours of work and debugging and the help of a team that cooperatively helped build this product and bring it to life. But there will be more coming in the future. A wheeled version is planned and, who knows, we may even see Airwolf in the future (no promises, though). Official features list  SASL sounds with nearly 2000 lines of code  Custom xlua code for systems and animations  VR and Vulkan ready  Custom 3D instruments  Custom and realistic start up from cold and dark  Custom coded auto start using ctrl + shift + e  Capable of starting up running  Vibration animations  Blade slap sounds  PBR textures  Realistic flight model tested by pilots  AviTab integration  Xchecklist capability  PDF manual and checklists  Paint kit with UV map  Highly customized lighting Where to purchase You can purchase the Cowan Simulations Bell 222 UT, from https://cowansim.com/product/222ut-cowan-simulation/
  8. LAS VEGAS – April 11, 2020 – The FlightSimExpo co-founders announced via a community livestream today that the 2020 in-person event has been canceled. Originally scheduled for June 12-14, 2020 at Tropicana Las Vegas, FlightSimExpo expected more than 2,000 attendees and had confirmed almost 50 exhibitors. “In making this announcement, we share the disappointment of the simulation community,” said Evan Reiter, co-founder of FlightSimExpo. “For the past several weeks, it has become increasingly evident that delivering the event the community expects is not possible. During this time, we have tried to be transparent with our partners and attendees while preserving the future sustainability of the conference. Although we’ll miss everyone this year, we look forward to using the additional planning time to make 2021 bigger and better than ever.” Through emails, social media, and surveys, the simulation community played an integral role in determining the future of the event. In a March 24 survey, 46% of respondents indicated their preference was to cancel the 2020 event and focus on 2021. By comparison, 31% favored waiting until closer to the event to decide, while 23% would have been interested in seeing the event run later in the year. While community engagement was taking place, organizers also focused their efforts on negotiating with vendors and suppliers to ensure the show could go on in the future. “We have always felt the importance of being community-driven in our decision-making,” said event co-founder Phil Coyle. “We are proud to have taken the time to make and announce a decision that is aligned with feedback from our attendees, exhibitors, and sponsors, and that supports the event in the future. The show will go on…in 2021.” Registered attendees, exhibitors, and sponsors should check their email for information regarding refunds or credits on registration fees. Attendees are also able to cancel their hotel rooms with Tropicana Las Vegas at no charge, up to 48 hours prior to check-in. “Fortunately, simulation is something we’re able to do in earnest from the safety of our homes,” said Evan. “Wherever you find yourself on June 12-14 this year, I hope you’ll take an hour (or more) to fire up your simulator and fly. Whether you’re joining others online or flying solo, you’re never really alone.” FlightSimExpo organizers wish the community the best of safety and health and look forward to planning the 2021 event. 15. Laminar Research, creator of the X-Plane flight simulator franchise, is proud to announce the long-awaited Vulkan/Metal update of its flagship desktop simulation product, X-Plane 11.50 Beta Laminar normally does not publish press releases for beta versions of X-Plane, but the Vulkan release is so important to the X-Plane 11 roadmap that we decided to publicly announce it before the final-release version is available. Vulkan (PC) and Metal (Mac) are rendering level APIs that change how X-Plane interacts with the graphics card. They are faster than OpenGL that X-Plane has used in the past. Overall, most users will see improved frame rates and reduced stutters when using Vulkan or Metal. In X-Plane 11.50 Beta, there is a check-box in the rendering settings that enables Vulkan or Metal. A restart of X-Plane is necessary for the change to take effect. If for some reason a user encounters problems while using Vulkan or Metal, OpenGL is still available by simply unchecking the Vulkan/Metal check-box. X-Plane 11.50 has been in private beta testing since the end of 2019. During the long development cycle for the 11.50 Beta, better handling of plugin drawing was added, a new process for texture paging was added and iterated 3 times, and multiple fixes to increase performance were added. X-Plane 11.50 Beta is now available to all X-Plane 11 users on both the Laminar and Steam sites through the X-Plane 11 update feature. More technical information on the Vulkan update can be found at https://developer.x-plane.com/2020/03/d9-you-sunk-my-battleship/

  22. Its good to maintain hope such a future ( open ecosystem ) is possible but the effort to monetize the product exists and that isn't going to make the pathway forward simple for freeware and professionals alike , it is in fact the single most important element for sustainability , I just hope MS realize it before this becomes Flight 2 , ATM that isn't at all apparent to the informed observer.
