  1. Hi Jim, Many thanks. :(For some reason it was pointing at the server machine 'fs9' directory. Moving it has seriously reduced the stutters! Worth considering as a point to check for those that have issues with stutters.CheersPaul
  2. Hi Guys:AS6.5 Over a network (WideFS)What should the options / default weather file location be?ThanksPaul
  3. Hello Mace:Many thanks for kick-starting the response. If anyone fancies a couple of test flights. I would appreciate knowing how far off of predicted (briefing) the winds actually are on a transatlantic trip, (Note that i am aware that a briefing is merely an approximation and that the actual winds will be different, usually not by a lot though in my RW experience). And that the winds actually travel in the right direction. It's good to hear that the wind shifts seem to be sorted.CheersPaul
  4. Hi Guys:Firstly, congratulations and the best of luck on releasing Active Sky Advanced.Does it really work though?I am considering upgrading ASX to ASA, and as the majority of my flying is heavy metal on transatlantic hops, does the age old wind shift issue truly go away with the ASA package?Aside from wind shifts in areas of low station quantity (Atlantic, Pacific, Siberia, Etc) i often find a problem with the fact that wonderful though ASX wind smoothing may be, it often results in the winds being in the wrong direction. So much so that for transatlantic flying, i generally used FS9 rather than X, my preferred sim.I appreciate that the creators / owners of the software are going to wish to respond to this, but so often have i been told by manufacturers the answers that i want to hear (in my working life as well as sim software) that i am not going to believe you. :( So... If some current users that know what i am talking about regarding wind shift improvements would care to offer their thoughts. I would be most grateful. Thanks, and a happy christmas and prosperous new year to you all.Warmest RegardsPaul
  5. >(it even contains the secret to why the 767>landing gear was designed the way it was).Okay, i'm curious now. Why? :)CheersPaul
  6. Hi Guys:I recently made a post about the extraordinary amount of panel states that were seemingly saved as a result of the PMDG Panel States autosaving to their default location, every time FSUIPC Autosave created a new save state. FSUIPC Autosave basically deletes any older states, and then writes the new ones, whereas the PMDG saves, just kept on building. I posted the question to Pete Dowson's forum, and he suggested that he would think about it. Today i received another reply from him, in that it will be included in FSUIPC 4.40 to be released in the next few days. Here is his response. "Pete Dowson wrote:On the other hand, maybe an INI file option (only) could be added where you, the user, can provide an additional folder path to be handled, and the fie-type to be deleted. I'll think about that. Shouldn't be too much work ..."Okay. Such a facility will be available in FSUIPC 4.40, which I hope to release within the next few days or so.You will have to manually add some lines to the [AutoSave] section of the FSUIPC4.INI file. For the PMDG 747X these would be:AlsoManage1=PMDG747400PanelState*.FLT.savAlsoManage2=PMDG747400PanelState*.0.rteAlsoManage3=PMDG747400PanelState*.1.rteas the PMDG can save these 3 file types for every saved FLT. The * represents the position where FSUIPC4 will substitute the AutoSave filename part. You'd need to do something similar I think for the MD11, but I don't know the details. The path given in these lines is WITHIN the main FSX path. If you have anything installed outside the FSX path you'd need to give the complete pathname, from the drive (e.g. C: ...) onwards (or the computer name for a Network in the usual form, i.e. ...).Up to 9 "AlsoManage" lines can be given, numbered 1 to 9.All FSUIPC4 does is delete the files with those names in those paths when it deletes the related FLT + WX files from the FSX flights folder.RegardsPetePete Dowson I hope that you all find this usefulCheersPaul
  7. Michael:Many thanks for the response. Much appreciated! :)Czarek:If there are what is known as a Constraint within the descent IE AT 2000ft; AT OR ABOVE 2000 FT; AT OR BELOW 2000FT, then they should show up in the F-PLN page. I havent really checked, but i would imagine that there are occasions where any alt predictions may be dashed. As a general rule though, there should be alt predictions for each waypoint.Could you post a screenie of the MCDU page in question, i think i may be a touch confused about your exact meaning :) CheersPaul
  8. Hi Michael:Many thanks for the response. That makes sense now. I shall give that a go in the next flight if i can.As an aside, with Step Down's or when dealing with metric FL's would the Cruise Alt's input change at all? IE, with a UK/US flight i might enter 300/320/340/360/380 to give the FMC something to calculate, whereas with a flight that terminates or transits Metric space, how could that be input? In feet throughout? ie 320/330/340/331/360?CheersPaulCzarek:Regardless of when you descend, be that 6000 miles from DEST or on top of it, the FMS convinces itself that you wanted to start your descent that early, and consequently switches the flight phase to DES. As you understand from Mike's post, the 'fix' for that in FMS terms is the procedure described above.CheersPaul

  10. Hey Konrad:Love it. Would be interested to know also if that's real or a fake. Shall have a crack at some extensive googling and see if i can find anything....CheersPaul

Hi Mark:Open the switcher for the 4th EICAS type screen from the left (sorry, brainfart and i cant remember the MD names!)(Status Display Unit? maybe? ;) )At the top of it, there are a series of white knobs that control the brightness of the screens. Turn them to the right, so i assume right click on them. The displays should become more visible. CheersPaul
  12. Hi Tom:A reasonable question! The clock in FS is notoriously useless at telling the time. I don't know why however, perhaps someone who is wise in the ways of such things can tell us!There are a couple of utilities (payware and freeware) that allow the clocks to synch up correctly, and i beleive that they acheive this by modifying the Time/Date settings repeatedly throughout a flight whenever the clock starts to drift a bit. I'm afraid that i can't remember the names of the files to search for as i installed them that long ago that they just sit there and get on with it. For what it's worth (and it's not worth a lot at todays prices) my FS9/X machine is entirely separate to the other machines in the house and so sits on GMT all the time as i like to ensure that i have the same time as the local ATC wherever i fly as i fly online, so i am not too sure about the possibility of GMT offsets in these programmes/utilities. CheersPaul

Hello Mark:MD11, 747, 737 or the older stuff?FSX or FS9?Any chance of a screenie? That will allow us to compare yours for ours.CheersPaul
  14. Hi Guys and in particular, Mr. Frantezkakis (sorry if i screwed up the spelling!)This has occured to me too. The situation is thus;1. FMC Fully initialised, as it is for every flight, and the nearly 200 hours i have 'On Type'2. On Climb out from EGKK en route KLAS, i was asked by ATC if i could descend for a traffic issue, to which i duly complied. 3. New altitude entered into the FCP and the ALT Knob was pulled to initiate the descent to the new FL, i think about 4000 Feet below. 4. When clear of conflict, ATC cleared me to climb back to initial cruise, at this point i wind the altitude back up to about FL320 or wherever it was supposed to be, and i hit the PROF button to re-engage the FMS altitude management..... Nothing (cant remember the exact warning message).5. Investigation of the cruise altitudes within the MCDU reveals that the altitudes are now blanked, and it will not let me input any new alts, both 320 and 32000 were tried. From what i can tell, it seems that the FMC is assuming that with any descent, the actual descent phase has begun. I have not tried this yet with any transits through Metric Airspace, so i cannot confirm that the problem also exists when descending as part of a planned step down for metric compensation.hope that you PMDG guys are able to shed some light on the issue. CheersPaul
  15. Hi Barney:In the interests of not letting your questions go unanswered, we are going to need more input from you here.1. rwy to bay on the packs? those are settings that don't exist on the B744, could you perhaps explain a little more, or even post a couple of screenshots with your meaning.2. I dont quite understand what is happening when you say that your engines fire up coming out of reverse. The should fire up, to provide you the forward motion to taxy to the stands. 3. Flightaware.com or fboweb.com provide real world flight plans. You at least have to know a flight number, or the Departure and Destination airports. CheersPaul
  16. Hi:I think you may be wishing a long time! In PMDG's efforts to improve frames, i suspect that the stairs would have been one of the first things to go.I would try harrasing the AES guys to get a wriggle on with their FSX version. I think you have more chance that way!CheersPaul
  17. Hi Cliff:At first glance - Spelling error?Try KJFKKLAX001Or, in Dep/DEST EnterKJFK/KLAXAnd the FMC should offer you a list of all the flightplans that it can find between kennedy and lax. Then you just choose the one you want.Cheers Paul
  18. Hi There:Firstly, it's a forum rule, so please post your name when you make a post, it helps us all feel like we are talking to a real person ;)Right then, the APU on the 747-400 is started by switching the APU knob to start (i think - with the MD11 out, its been a while) and letting it spring back to its on position. If you are doing that, it should start. Although bear in mind that it can take a while before it becomes available. In my little world, i generally start the APU as we turn off from the landing runway. Approaching the stand, i again refer to the Overhead Panel, and switch the power source to APU. Acheived with the APU GEN switches that should now be lit by the AVAIL lights. This then enables an almost instant engine shutdown upon application of the Parking Brake. If that isnt working for you. A screenshot of your Overhead, and EICAS with the ELEC page up would be useful.CheersPaul
  19. Hi Bob:Fully agree with you about Pete Dowson. Truly an example to all, in terms of his presence, manner, and responsiveness. He has made a follow up post, and although he doesn't promise anything, he does suggest that he may be able to extend the functionality of the delete/re-write ability that the Autosave files themselves exhibit to the PMDG Panel States folder. This would most likely be acheived through adding a specific line to the INI file for FSUIPC rather than as a box within the interface, but he seems to think that it should be quite do-able nonetheless.Again i state (for the hard of thinking that may read this thread and start harassing Pete about it) PETE PROMISES NOTHING - he MAY look at it IF he has the time OR the inclination.Cheers ;)Paul
  20. Here's the response from Pete DowsonRe: Autosave and 1444 Fragged Filesby Pete Dowson on Sat Nov 08, 2008 3:20 am Kinetika wrote:ME: The flight today was a 747X EGKK/KJFK, and the majority of the fragged files are C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator XPMDG747400Panel StateAutosave XYZ.FLT.SAV (XYZ Being the Autosave Date and Time)Pete: How do they get fragmented? You wouldn't have thought they were big enough. ME: I'm not saying it's PMDG. To be honest i suspect that it's more a function of the Autosave Module that FSUIPC4 Registered is including these days, but this is obviously not right and thought that it was worth making both PMDG and Pete Dowson aware of the issue if they were not already.Pete: The PMDG software is detecting the saving of flights and automatically saving its own data. If you don't want that to happen I suggest you either look to see if there's a way of turning it off in the PMDG options, or else you'll need to stop using AutoSave. Simply go to FSUIPC's AutoSave tab and disable it -- you must have enabled it there in the first place, as it is off by default.Alternatively, if you find the Autosave with PMDG data useful, you'll need to remember to go delete them now and then.Incidentally, 1444 saves in one flight seems a bit over the top. Why don't you think about reducing the frequency a bit. say to once every 2 or 3 minutes? Then you'd need to go on a 2 day flight to accumulate that many! RegardsPetePete Dowson CheersPaul
  21. Okay then guys:Grape ;) : You can set the ND to PLAN with a button (of the same name)on the Glareshield and then just scroll through the ACT F-PLN on the MCDU.Stuart: MD11 and 744 are both covered, the WX is better using Real world weather downloaded every 15Mins within FSX (graphics not quite as stunning as those generated by ASX, but winds aloft match up, and that's the point - for me at least - ;) )Radar Contact, I dont have as i only fly online, sorry cant help there.Vista64. Again, i dont know. There is a Forum Link from the Danur site's main page. But to the uninitiated, the forum can be a bit of a maze (much like the software itself hehehe)The software is being redesigned for V2.0 and initial rumors are that that's about 12 Months away at the earliest. Whether or not us existing users get a free or discounted upgrade, i couldnt tell you.CheersPaul
  22. V4-Grape (if thats your real name ;) )A good place to get an idea of how much fuel to load would be by looking at how much fuel the FMS thinks you need. F-PLN INIT Page 2, One of the Left LSK's (i think)CheersPaul
  23. Hi Guys:Prior to starting today's online flight, i ran a quick defrag with Ultimate Defrag 2008 and ended up with 1 fragmented file (its the same one every time, one of the SYS32 Files, cant be helped :) ). Anyway, after my flight, i just ran ultimate defrag again and there are now 1444 fragmented files. The flight today was a 747X EGKK/KJFK, and the majority of the fragged files are C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator XPMDG747400Panel StateAutosave XYZ.FLT.SAV (XYZ Being the Autosave Date and Time)I get the same after an MD11 Flight. The Autosave Files themselves;C:Documents And SettingsUSERMy DocumentsFlight Simulator X FilesAutosaveKnow that they are to over-write existing items and so there are only 6 of them, + a WX File each.I'm not saying it's PMDG. To be honest i suspect that it's more a function of the Autosave Module that FSUIPC4 Registered is including these days, but this is obviously not right and thought that it was worth making both PMDG and Pete Dowson aware of the issue if they were not already. I am Cross Posting to Pete Dowsons forum at the same time, so hopefully the two companies can bang their heads together and have a look at this. CheersPaul
  24. Monthly AIRACS available. But they dont come cheap as they are exactly the same as realworld airlines use. CheersPaul
  25. LOL:Hi Phil...I think you're going to have to hehehe. All the BAW's are RB211's so that kind of limits my scope hehehe.CheersPaul
