  1. Doh! Found the older post, Couldn't see the woods for the trees! :)Apologies for the re-post, questions above still stand....CheersPaul
  2. Hi guys:I must be going blind as i couldnt find my last post regarding settings. Here are the current settingshttp://img353.imageshack.us/img353/9738/pa...oct23002fd8.jpgI am still getting erratic shifting winds every few minutes. Does the wind left/right limit at the top affect anything? If so what, and should it auto set.I always process the flight plan, and once again on my atlantic hop i have had the winds shifting continuously throughout the flight. I appreciate that ActiveSky is the only add-on that assists with the real world weather, but there appears to be a lot of people with and a lot without this issue. Why? There must be a common element causing this...Lastly - i have tried 10% increments on the dynamic rate of change slider, these seem to have no effect. Also, have started at defaults and sdjusted settings throughout the flight - all to no avail.Would a re-install of ASX be a reasonable suggestion?Would a reinstall of ASX require a re-config of the simconnect ?CheersPaul
  3. Hi Jim:Obviously many of us are having issues with the ASX/FSX wind shift on the north atlantic. Can you tell us at least, if HiFiSim are working on a fix for this issue?CheersPaul
  4. Michael J.It seems to me that you are confusing reality and make beleive here. I just want to hammer the point home that Microsoft Flight Simulator is a GAME. Like it or not, that's the banner that MS have filed it under, and if you look in the PC Store, it's likely that they will have it in their Games Section.I like to fly as procedurally correct as i can, it cant always be done as sometimes i just dont have the knowledge or available reading materials to confirm that what i am doing is right. In those situations, i will come into a forum like this and post my question. In return i generally expect that somebody will answer that A) knows what they are talking about and :( can respond in a polite and respectful manner. While you seem to fulfil criteria A, it seems that you have a way to go in filling criteria B. The majority of your responses on the forums here come across as being downright rude and arrogant, and where possible i try and avoid reading threads in which your screen name is mentioned. This is a shame, as a lot of what you have to say is both useful and informative, and i am sure a lot of people just keep a hold of the page down key when they see your name in the thread. The FS Community at large is, IMHO, one of the friendlier, more helpful online worlds, and it is responses such as yours that put people off of coming into forums and getting the answers that would make them better VIRTUAL pilots. In Aviation yes, it pays to use the correct terminology, but you forget that this is NOT aviation.QUOTE: >I think you are mixing terms here and trying to fly some sort of hybrid approach that simply doesn't exist in real life<4 Engine Flameouts in Boeing 747's are not exactly a real life occurrence either (with one or two historical exceptions) and yet R/w Pilots go into the SIMULATOR and practice them. If someone wants to do something in the Sim, regardless of whether or not it's a real world procedure, then who's to stop them? I respect your knowledge, i value your input, but try and be polite about it.Sorry to the OP for the Hi-Jack, but it needed to be said.CheersPaulEDIT: Clarity
  5. Hi Bill:It was as much the fact that i happened to have been looking at the United Virtual website that morning, and your name rang a bell. :)Plus i like to do my bit for 'corporate' relations every now and again ;)CheersPaul
  6. Hi there:My Bad ;)Misunderstood the gist of your response. I'm off to get my head out of my ####...CheersPaul
  7. George:A Flex Temp is a derated 'false' temperature that airlines use to confuse the FMC into thinking that the outside air temperature is hotter than it actually is. The purpose of this is to save the engines from working unnecessarily hard on the take-off roll, by limiting their EPR or N1 to a lower level. This obviously means that the engines are not working quite so hard throughout their working lives, resulting in a saving in fuel, maintenance costs, and new engines. Programmes like Topcat, are very good at calculating this data (certainly for PMDG's 744) and will hopefully one day be able to do the same for the MD11.CheersPaul(sorry to the OP for the thread divert there ;) )
  8. >Yes, but he says: "If you use optimum flap you cannot apply>flex take off thrust and you must use full rated t.o.">>And that is not true. ;)>>So.... What you are saying is that his companies SOP's are wrong?Nobody is disputing that it cannot be done. All that is being said is that at his company. 'you cannot apply flex take off thrust and you must use full rated t.o.'Simple as....In the real world, the 744 can have it's engines started in pretty much any order you like. At BA, it's 4+3, 2+1. Just because thats the way BA do it, doesn't make it wrong....CheersPaul
  9. I Think Craig was pointing towards the fact that commercially, concorde was a disaster.Considering that at launch, there was something like 70 airlines interested in her, however by the first flight, it was only BA and Air France. who were ultimately, given the aircraft, to all intents and purposes.CheersPaul
  10. Hi Bill:Thanks for the tip. And congratulations on that 100,000th Pirep from BAVirtual! ;)RegardsPaul
  11. Hi Andy:No offence taken mate :) Sorry if my response intimated that it was.You offer a perfectly valid point, and certainly in the absence of the Fuel Planning charts, then i am happy to go with the FMC methods. If it wasnt for the wind oddities experienced in my Trans Atlantic flights, i am quite certain that the calculations of the FMC regarding fuel would have been perfectly acceptable.CheersPaul
  12. Bryan:The FSUIPC Settings to smooth the winds are both helping and hindering, at the bottom of my more lengthy post above a give the setting, sorry, cant remember what they were at the moment. The help is the smoothness of the shifts, the hinderance is that with a higher setting, the delays can be so large that the winds will ultimately not reflect anything close to your briefing.AS6,5 seems to give far better results in terms of stable winds though!CheersPaul
  13. Michael:FOC Does indeed look at a wind optimal trajectory, provided it has several routings to compare. Where posssible, i try and give it a couple of the real world options, and let it think about it from there.CheersPaul
  14. Hello Jim:Many thanks for the response. I shall try this on my next hop and see how it turns out.I appreciate that you guys are trying to handle one of the single most complex aspects of the simulator, not helped by the apparent bugginess of the software itself, and appreciate the good work that you are doing. It seems to me that the Atlantic, and other areas where one would expect a dearth of stations, is where the WX gets erratic. I hope that you are making progress with a fix, and look forward to hearing more in the future. Many thanksPaul
  15. Hello Andy:The FMC Can indeed account for winds aloft, provided that you plug them into the FMC, and that the FMC is being given the right winds (see my ASX post).I appreciate that you are happy to plan with the FMC your fuel requirements. But a large part of the sim experience for myself and many others is the flight planning proccess itself. To a certain extent, the flying is secondary. The fuel planning process in the real world is acheived by reference to the approrpriate charts and a seriously expensive planning computer. I use Flight Operations Centre or FSBuild for my flight planning. And with the aid of a decent aircraft profile that includes incredibly detailed fuel burn data, i can pretty much guarantee that the fuel i plan to land with, will indeed be the fuel i arrive with. within about 1,000Kg's.Within the tutorials, i was hoping that the fuel planning aspect was going to cover the FMC method of fuel planning and upload, but having located the appropriate page of the manual after the third ink cartridge change ;) i have managed to get through that myself. Apart from the head wind travelling east/west on my west/east NAT trek yesterday, i would have probably arrived with a perfectly acceptable 10.0 on board (tonnes) rather than the 3.8 that i did due to ASX weirdness.CheersPaul
  16. Also, The Trim function will not function without adequate hydraulic pressure. If prior to engine start. Turn an Aux Pump on, and you shall be able to trim. CheersPaul
  17. Hi Guys:I am cross-posting this simultaneously to HI-Fi Sim, FSUIPC, BAv, and PMDG Forums. Apologies if it has been asked before, but i promise i have searched, but the search string 'ASX FSX FSUIPC WIND SHIFT' offers so many results that a sensible and coherent answer is difficult to track down. If you know of a post that answers my question succinctly, and will enable me to get the results that i am looking for, then please point me in the right direction, and my apologies for asking that same old question again.I have just made the switch to FSX, and i am having trouble with the wind shifts. The pressure issue has so far not been noticed, but there's time yet :)I run FSX on my main machine which has FSUIPC 4.28 currently installed. I am aware that there is an updated version, i have downloaded and will install after this flight. On my Laptop and talking via simconnect over a wired LAN is ASX, and SB4. Talking via WideClient, is the VA's ACARS System. The problem i have, is the winds. Currently, i am mid atlantic, travelling west to east at FL370 0302Z.Winds in FSX are reading 051*/030 (a 30 Kt Headwind). After setting FL370 and refreshing the data for my current Flight Plan, the winds should (as far as the ASX Briefing Page goes) be 254*/100 (a 100 Kt Tail Wind).------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------My ASX Settings are as follows;Auto Wx Downloads - ONVatsim Downloads - OFFForce High Priority - OFFDownload Interval - 10 MinsDynamic Rate Of Change - 10%Wake Turb Strength - 13%Depict Hurricanes - ONCreate Virtual Stations - OFFEnhance Route Coverage - OFFX Graphics Options - Not Installed - All OFFMax Surface Wind - 100KtMin Wind Turb - 0%Max Wind Turb - 0%Min Wind Shear - 0%Max Wind Shear - 0%Disable Winds Aloft - OFFEnable Wind Data Smoothing - OFFEnable Wind Shift Stabilisation - OFFMin Surface Vis - 0SMMax Surface Vis - 100SMMax Upper Vis - 80SMMax Cloud Layers - 20Min Cloud Turb - 0%Max Cloud Turb - 0%Min Cloud Icing 0%Max Cloud Icing 60%CAVOK Cloud Gen - 24%No Data Cloud Gen 50%Cirrus Cloud Gen - 50%Stratus Cloud Occurrence - 20%Enable Fog Layer - ON[ On - Ticked / OFF - Unticked ]>>>>>> Since i began writing the last wx update - winds are now 001*/000<<<<<<<------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FSUIPC SettingsSmooth Wind Changes near aircraft with changes limited to [ 1 ] Knot or degree per secondThat is the only weather relevant WX setting within FSUIPC that i have set.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------>>>>> Winds now 003*/001 FSX - 250*/100 ASX <<<<<<<<>>>>>>Winds no 000/000 in FSX <<<<<<
  18. Guys: Below is the post i am cross posting. I have been running a flight as per the suggestions offered, but am finding that the winds in FSX bear no relation to those that ASX thinks i should haveHi Guys:I am cross-posting this simultaneously to HI-Fi Sim, FSUIPC, BAv, and PMDG Forums. 19. Hi Dan:Thanks for that. Just about to have a pop at a KMIA or KMCO to EGKK route so shall have a tweak of ASX/FSUIPC and see what happens.CheersPaul
  20. Staffan:1. Are you ensuring that your TOWCG, ZFWCG, ZFW, Block Fuel, TOW are input in the FMC init page? I suspect that it will not calculate V speeds until it has that data to crossreference, also, you will need a flap setting. I suggest that 25 will work in most situations (based on feedback from other users, in other topics here)2. The Perf Data in the Manual is very very limited as Boeing are not willing to permit PMDG to release all the required data to enable us as the users to successfully plan our flights from start to finish. There is little to nothing PMDG can do about this, other than wait for Boeing to stop being so paranoid and just do the kind thing and release the data.A Flex value of 30-40C should see you through most takeoff's however and 30C has worked okay for me on the last few flights.3. FS9 Flight plans should be fine. It's reading my FSBuild FP Exports quite happily.CheersPaul
  21. Hi Dan:Many thanks for the responses. Firstly - I havent spoken to you on the forum before, so many thanks for the USA SID/STAR packages, i wouldnt be able to much in the US without them. It's nice to see that they all work as well in the MD11 as the 744.I do run a registered version of FSUIPC, so shall have a crack at using your settings. Could i be a bit cheeky and ask about your ASX settings too? :)CheersPaul
  22. Hi Markus:I'm missing something :)How do i set the MDA?CheersPaul
  23. Paul:A longshot, but is the flightplan manually entered at the beginning of the trip?If it is, have you saved the plan?I ask this, as the FMS might be looking for a .rte file in the nav database and cannot find it. Hence the lack of an available plan.CheersPaul
  24. Adrian:I am far from being even close to an expert on these matters, but heres an attempt for you. Hopefully someone more in the know can clear up the grey areas...A) Yes. But if you are in metric airspace, and you need to cruise at 'abnormal' Flight Levels, then switching the FCP ALT control over to metrics turns it into a metres machine...:( Pushing ALT Knob is a 'Hold Current Alt' style function. Pulling it will set it climbing / descending to the level it is commanded in the windowC) If the Spoilers are armed (right click in VC) then they should activate, and the effoh should tell you so.D) Pass. Could be an FS thing, but it's modelled on the 744, i should imagine there is a secondary pitch related gyro, that allows this info to display while the IRU's are spinning up.E) Pass. Again would assume FS limitation, unless a secondary hydraulic system is opening the reverser doors for you. F) pushing in depends on the mode that they are currently in. I'm still trying to get used to the quirks of the buttons on her, and the status lights that they display when doing what it is that thay do. In general, and for normal operation, you want to look up and see that the majority of the buttons are unlit, indicating that the systems are in Auto.CheersPaul
