  1. Rats, I posted this in the wrong thread! :(
  2. Yep, going to have to amend my earlier list based on recent developments. Here is what I would like to see now.Highly desirable: Boeing 717It would make a certain amount of sense for PMDG to give this one a go, since it has some flight deck commonality with the MD-11. I would imagine they could possibly reuse some elements of the MD-11 for this one. They would need a new external model and flight dynamics, though. The good news is that lots of 717s are still flying, so PMDG could potentially have access to some data collection for a realistic model. Airbus series (A320/A330/A340/A380)Aerosoft's Airbus-X looks a little too basic for my liking, and God only knows if and when Airsimmer will get an FSX version of their Airbus Advanced Edition out the door. FlightSimLabs (who did the excellent Concorde-X) appears to be working on something involving an Airbus based on a recent mystery screenshot they posted -- unknown yet which one, or how detailed it will be. I would LOVE to see a PMDG treatment of the Airbus series, though. Especially the granddaddy of them all, the A380. (Any word on how Next Level is coming along with theirs?) CRJ-100/200Would be nice to complement the Aerosoft CRJ-700/900 series. Dash-8 Q400I hope this one is in the pipeline after the initial Dash-8 is done... ATR 42/72Flight1's is getting a bit long in the tooth, and was a direct port to FSX from FS9. Here in the US, American flies a bunch of these out of DFW and in the Caribbean. Time for an update? Other commuter propsSaab 340, Embraer 120, etc. Boeing 787, Bombardier CSeries, etc.In a few years, when the flight testing is done, the design finalized, and carriers start deploying these everywhere. Russian planesWonder if there is any way PMDG could model a Tu-204, Il-96, or a Sukhoi Superjet? Lower on the list: CRJ 700/900Looks like Aerosoft is doing a really nice one of these coming up real soon now, even purported to be a PMDG-style sim. If true, then there's no real need for PMDG to duplicate this effort. BAe 146Aerosoft has announced one of these, too. Level of detail is unknown at this point. I would love to see this one done with PMDG-style detail. If Aerosoft sticks with a basic or mid-range sim on this, then I would love to see PMDG do a high-end one.
  3. Nice to hear. The Level-D 767 is one of my favorite planes in addition to the entire PMDG fleet. The 757 is already getting a lot of coverage among Level-D, Captain Sim, and QualityWings, so I would prefer to see PMDG focus on new and different projects.I don't know when Level-D plans to unleash the 757, but I just hope they time it at an opportune time for my wallet! Preferably not the same month PMDG rolls out their 737 NGX, Aerosoft their CRJ, etc. :(Loving the latest tidbit previews of the 737 NGX -- can't wait to see more!
  4. I'll have to double-check my settings, but I believe I have it set to High graphics (but not Very High) with a few minor tweaks. I do have some autogen scenery enabled, but it's mostly defaults. Tell you what, next time I reboot into Windows, I'll take a few screenshots and post them.I've got a 13" MacBook (would be branded a MacBook Pro now) with the 2.4 GHz Core2 CPU.
  5. How about this for a datapoint:I actually run FSX in a 100 GB or so Windows Vista Business partition on my MacBook using BootCamp. Mainly for getting my FS fix while I'm traveling -- or even around the house, whenever I happen to be away from the computer room. It would probably do Win 7 just fine, but I just haven't found a compelling reason to spend hundreds of $$$ for the OS upgrade when it is not my primary OS on this system. This MacBook (bought in 2009) comes with the Nvidia 9400M GPU, although it does not have dedicated graphics memory like a desktop PC graphics card would. I have upgraded the system memory on the MacBook to 4 GB (2x2 GB DDR3 SODIMMs), so I have plenty of memory to use for the GPU as well as regular system memory. Still, I do dial back a few of the features and graphics settings in FSX, versus what I normally run on my desktop PC. Overall, though, I still get a pretty satisfying flight experience on the MacBook. I have the PMDG 747, MD-11, and J41 installed, and they all work more or less just fine. I even have UT2 installed for realistic AI traffic, although I don't have any of the fancy weather, sky, or scenery packages installed. As long as I don't overdo it, it works pretty well.I don't think I would try FSX on an older Mac or MacBook that uses the Intel GMA GPUs, though. That is just asking for trouble.
  6. I'm 36, have done software development and testing for the last decade or so. I've been into computers since the early 80s as a kid.Tried the original subLogic FS on the Commodore 64 back in the 80s, but never really got into it. Oh, how I do miss Meigs Field, though... :-)I developed a nasty fear of flying in the 90s, but I had a job a few years ago where I had to travel a lot. I began to read voraciously about the whole process of flying, with the belief that knowledge and understanding conquer fear. A friend of mine showed me FS9 a few years ago, and I was really impressed with how realistic it was compared to older products. I was hooked, and have been a FS junkie ever since.I would love to take up aviation as a hobby, but family, time, and financial constraints limit my ability to do that now. Maybe someday when the kids are grown. I don't have any direct connection to aviation IRL at the moment, though my sister actually works for a FBO at KADS.Musically, I sang in the chorus once upon a time...
  7. I voted yes on the 717, although it would not be my top choice. I would definitely love to see the 737, 777 and A320 series before that, along with a CRJ and a BAe-146/AvroRJ. Still, if PMDG (or someone) came out with a high quality 717, I would be all over it.
  8. I know Boeing has been providing technical assistance to the PMDG developers on the NGX and 777, which is really cool. But would Boeing really care if PMDG did an Airbus, as well? I can't honestly see how PMDG doing an Airbus would make the airlines any more or less likely to buy Boeing aircraft. If it's merely an issue of protecting Boeing's IP, then it would (theoretically) be straightforward enough to hire/assign some different developers to sign the NDAs from Airbus, and not discuss any of Airbus's or Boeing's secrets with anyone not cleared to know them internally or externally. Tech companies do this sort of thing all the time. Maybe I'm missing something here...Oh, and I have to agree with Ryan: the PMDG MD-11 was one of the best 1.0 aircraft I've ever flown. I sincerely hope Airsimmer (or PMDG or somebody, please, Lord, anybody) gets a high-quality Airbus out there to match the PMDG NGX for FSX as soon as possible. I would love to fly these two great workhorses in global aviation with unparalleled realism in FSX.BTW, whom did PMDG have to sign the agreements with to do the Woodpigeon, anyway? :(
  9. I do KAUS-KDFW or KAUS-KIAH a lot, as I have lived near each of these airports at one time or another. They are among my favorite short hops when trying out a new sim aircraft for the first time. I practically can almost navigate the waypoints KDFW to KAUS as VOR/radial/distance fixes in my head, I've done it so many times... :( For scenery, I like KPDX-KSEA a lot, too. Can't go wrong flying around the Cascades in the Pacific Northwest, especially on those days when you are fortunate enough to get clear weather.
  10. It's better than the default FSX CRJ, but it lacks so much. The FMS doesn't even support terminal procedures (SIDs/STARs) for just one example of many of its shortcomings. A PMDG CRJ would be an instant classic, IMHO.
  11. Very cool! If I lived in Nevada, Robert would get my vote -- but only if he promised that his election wouldn't slow down the release of the 737NGX, the Dash-8, and the 777. These are really important issues for me, you know! :( Anyway, I think Robert would be an asset to the people of Nevada. Best of luck to him! Will be looking forward to following his campaign and seeing how he does.As for Robert's affiliation, I'll give everyone a hint: the incumbent Lt. Gov. in Nevada is a Republican who is running unopposed on that side's primary this year. I'm a moderate independent, so party label matters less to me than individual qualifications. But I really hope this thread does not degenerate into political sparring -- if Robert's affiliation isn't your cup of tea and you happen to live in Nevada, then by all means, go vote for the other guy and leave it be.
  12. I just want to know where they are going to stash the pogo stick on this one...
  13. So many discouraging things about AS being reported here. I honestly have to agree with everything that was posted above. I would give serious consideration to purchasing the A320 Basic and helping support AS, except that 1) the upgrade policy to the Advanced Edition is ridiculous, and 2) I run FSX only. Until these things change, no dice. I really do hope that AS manages to get their act together and deliver the A320 Advanced (for FSX) as promised. But, if not...I really do hope that PMDG will do the full Airbus series, if future business conditions warrant it. It sounds like many of the things they are doing for the 737 NGX are directly transferable to the 777; I would think that going from a narrow-body Airbus (A320 series) would be similarly transferable with a wide-body Airbus (A330/A340 series...heck even an A380). Perhaps they can leverage many of the same techniques they are perfecting now with the Boeings, even though the flight decks and controls are vastly different.I tell you this much, though...with all the great stuff coming down the pipe from PMDG alone this year, I may have to go find a second job just to support my PMDG habit. :(
  14. My wishlist:AeroMexico (737, 738)AirTran (737)Alaska (737, 738, 739)All Nippon Airways (737)American (738)Continental (737, 738, 739)Copa (737, 738)Delta (737, 738)KLM (737, 738, 739)Korean (738, 739)Miami Air (738)Ryanair (738)Southwest (737)Sun Country (738)WestJet (736, 737, 738)
  15. I won't claim to speak on behalf of PMDG, but I would guess that the rise of the development of the AirSimmer A320 (which appears to be a PMDG-quality aircraft) has probably steered PMDG away from the A320 towards other projects, like the 777. Whether or not the AirSimmer product lives up to its potential remains to be seen. However, if I were PMDG, I would probably choose to spend my time developing other planes that are not yet well-represented in the Flight Sim world, so as to get more return on the investment. It's a business decision, and one that I wouldn't blame them at all for making -- especially when many customers have expressed interest in purchasing a 777. I've got the Boeing 777 cockpit poster hanging on the wall in my home office, and I am really pumped about the prospect of a flyable 777 in FSX to go along with it!Now that said, I really do hope the AirSimmer A320 Advanced Edition lives up to its full potential, because I would dearly love to have a high-fidelity Airbus in my virtual fleet to go along with my PMDG 737 NGX this year. And if not, then I hope PMDG will give a serious look at doing their own Airbus series someday. But I'm hoping the AirSimmer product will be great, and that 2010 will go down as one of the best years ever for Flight Sim products. Then PMDG can get to work on that pogo stick with the FMS. :(
  16. I am very stoked about the PMDG 777, and looking forward to its unveiling when the time comes. I hope they can come up with a way to reasonably cover all the variants, including the 777-200LR. That would be an interesting plane to push to its limits!I enjoy both long-haul and short-haul flights, though. Count me in the camp that would love to see a CRJ or BAe 146/Avro RJ from PMDG, too.
  17. I would love to see the PMDG treatment on any of the following:- CRJ (want this bad)- BAe 146 / AvroRJ (this one, too -- c'mon, 4 engines and a tail cone speed brake...what's not to love?)- Boeing 777 (but I'm not fanatical about it, as I have a feeling that somebody somewhere is going to do one eventually)- Boeing 717 (could possibly reuse some of the avionics from the MD-11 on this)- Airbus (only if [mumble] doesn't get their act together and release theirs first)- Dash-8 (I know they are working on this one...can it pretty please be a Q400?)- EMB-120 (another popular turboprop in the U.S. and abroad)And of course, I really, really want that 737 NG v2. But then again, I'd probably buy the PMDG pogo stick if they came out with one. :(
  18. I would so buy this, especially if it came with all the variants (A318/A319/A320/A321) and engine types (CFM/IAE). Right now the only Airbus for FSX I have is (mumble)'s product that looks like an Airbus, but is not a true fly-by-wire simulation. A PMDG Airbus would be awesome. And yes, I know there is another one out there in development that aims to be a true PMDG-type simulation. Been waiting forever on it. I am beginning to think that if PMDG started from scratch tomorrow, they could get theirs out first.
  19. I really like Captain Sim's stuff. I own the 757, 727, C-130, and 767, and enjoy them all. (And I'm actually a happy owner/fan of the LDS 767, too.) Around US $15 for each is a heck of a deal -- I think these planes are a steal at that price. Buy all four of these for what one would normally cost you. It's true that their 757 in particular had some serious issues early on, but the latest 4.4 version (which just came out last week) is very nice. I think Captain Sim initially did not handle a lot the problems very well, and they lost some credibility with people. However, I can say over the last 18-24 months, I have never had a serious problem with Captain Sim. I've always gotten my activation count reset upon request when using the web form, as I have terrible luck with hardware and hard drives. They maintain customer forums at their site, and generally seem responsive to customer concerns. I think they have learned from their past mistakes and seem to be doing a pretty good job, overall. I'm really looking forward to their 767-400, the redo of their 707 for FSX, and whatever else they've got in the pipe. I'll keep supporting them as a happy customer unless things change. At this price, what have you got to lose?Enjoy!
  20. My answer: it depends.I typically use time compression on flights longer than roughly 2 hours on aircraft that I am familiar with. If I am learning a new aircraft, I may run longer flights at real time in order to have more time to experiment and gain familiarity with the aircraft systems while in flight.I have been known to keep a laptop handy and surf the net on longer flights, akin to certain real-world NWA pilots of recent infamy... :(

    Dash 8

Given that the J41 has only been out around 2-3 months or so, I'm not expecting any updates on the Dash-8 for a while. But I would love to be wrong about that... :(
  22. +1 Have you seen the CS 727 remake that was released earlier this year? It's actually pretty nice. A few minor flaws here and there, but virtually every addon has some.Anyway, CS has announced that they are redoing the 707 in a similar fashion. If it's as nice as their new 727, I will be pretty pleased. To get this back on topic for PMDG, I would love to see PMDG do either a BAe 146/AvroRJ or a CRJ. We haven't seen PMDG do a nice RJ yet, and I think the CRJ would be an excellent candidate for a high-quality PMDG treatment -- especially since Wilco just released a nice refresh of the ERJ. I wouldn't mind PMDG taking on a unique, older aircraft such as an L1011, either.
  23. I haven't tried the Airsimmer A320 yet, as I am FSX-only.However, I think it is unfair to compare the A320 Basic Edition to a PMDG-quality product. We are talking apples and oranges here. Airsimmer has noted that the A320 Basic Edition lacks many features. It is even priced at a lower price point (around US $40) than a comparable PMDG product. Personally, I'm withholding judgment on the Airsimmer A320 until they release the Advanced Edition for FSX. If it still has problems then, I think everyone can rightly complain. As for why they pushed the A320 Basic Edition out now, your guess is as good as mine. It does look like the Advanced Edition is not fully baked yet, so they probably released the bits that were working (reasonably) well in the form of the Basic Edition.I can't wait to see the PMDG 737NGv2 though. That one is the top plane on my yet-to-be-released wishlist at this point. :)
  24. I've changed my mind on this since I last posted. I previously wanted a Boeing 777 after the NGv2...however, another outfit (which shall not be named here) has announced a 767-400, which is very close to a 777 in many ways. Wouldn't be surprised to see them morph their 767-400 into a 777 eventually. Now, I think I have to agree with the people calling for PMDG to try their hand at doing a BAe 146/AvroRJ. It's a very unique plane, which would probably be much more interesting for the PMDG designers to model, compared to yet another Boeing long haul plane. Used to see quite a few BAe 146's in the U.S. until the RJs took over...still see them a lot in Europe. Count me in for one of these! My second choice would be a high-quality CRJ, although I have seen another company has plans to do one of those. They don't seem to be very far along, though, not having posted any updates in a long time. A PMDG CRJ would definitely be awesome.
  25. Hey PMDG team! Just wanted to thank you for all your hard work on the Jetstream 4100. I am really enjoying it so far. I wanted to share a couple of screenshots from my maiden flight from Wenatchee to Seattle/Tacoma:I know I will be enjoying this one for a long time to come.+chris
