Cloud option trick with ASE
With ASA, there was a trick that you had to use to get proper cloud rendering for some a particular problem. I can't remember exactly what the problem was because it's been so long, but the trick was to set 3 of the 4 cloud options (CAVOK, No Data, Cirrus and Stratus) to 0 and one of the four options to 1.If anyone knows what i'm talking about, does this trick still apply with ASE or can we use higher values for these 4 options now?Thanks...

Great place to show off TP to friends and family
Use Service1 and take off from Carson City, Nevada heading East and enjoy some real TileProxy goodness. Service1 has some great images in that general area.

TP outside of the USA
Okay, I will try Service1 in Europe and see if I have better luck. Thanks...

TP outside of the USA
I live in the US and so far all of my TP flights have been in the US. Today, I decided to try overseas with terrible results. Almost every place I tried, I got constant 'Problem loading at level 14' error messages and horrible looking tiles. So I was wondering, is there anything special you need to do to use TP anywhere besides the US? Are the map services only for the US or are they for the world?

loading problem
Did you get a working ProxyUser.ini file? I don't think the one that gets installed with the program works. Try downloading one of the ones from this website: TileProxy Guide

How do you extend the range...
I have already gone ahead and changed all my min-max to 10-17.Something I got wondering about today when I was flying without TP and it might sound stupid, but is there any way to do some kind of level mapping tricks when FSX loads default textures, i.e. not TP textures?

How do you extend the range...
Good info here to add to my testing list. One thing, where in the fsx.cfg file should I put the mipmap entry?

How do you extend the range...
I was correct. Using level mapping=10,11,15,15,16,16,17,17,18,19 did induce stuttering, especially when banking, but man was it cool to see for a brief period of time. Wish my system was capable of seeing this all the time. I can't see any transition to lower quality on the horizon. I'm going to have to come up with some level mapping settings that get me close to this now that i've seen how good it could look. Maybe it was a bad idea to try this. :)

How do you extend the range...
I get it now. I took what you said and started messing with my level mapping setting and now I understand how to get the transition layer extended far enough out to where it's barely noticable. I'm using these settings for now:min_level=10max_level=19map_version=401level_mapping=10,11,13,15,15,16,16,17,18,19I know you told me in another thread that i'm really only using 10-17 with a max=15 setting, but I left the 18 and 19 in there because they didn't seem to be causing any issues. I might get a little crazy and try something like 10,11,15,15,16,16,17,17,18,19 and see just how bad FSX performs with those settings. I imagine it's going to cause a bit of stuttering and loss of performance, but what they hey. It's worth a shot.I'm slowly starting to understand how all this stuff works. The explanation about the rings was awesome. Thanks for taking the time to explain that.

How do you extend the range...
So what you're saying is that once I get most of my home area cached really well, this obvious difference will become less obvious? That might explain why it didn't seem so obvious when I was flying in another direction last night and it was the same direction I had flown on a previous test flight. Now if you are saying that level 14 is the odd color, could you use level mapping to eliminate level 14 and replace it with another level that matches the color better? So if I understand you correctly, in theory I could fly back and forth from top to bottom of an entire state and cache the whole thing and I would basically have an entire photoscenry package for that state. I know this is an unrealistic thing to attempt, but in theory is that possible? Yes, that is KPIT area with Service1. I like the look of it better than Service3. Just seems a bit brighter and more colorful.

How do you extend the range...
Don't know if this is possible, but how do you extend the range that TP will render tiles? As you can see in this picture, the range in front of me that TP is rendering tiles is not very far. Is this the normal range? Is this something that level mapping would eliminate? I have already set my level of detail range slider in FSX to large, but it doesn't render tiles very far out in front of me.Thanks....

Map service and level mapping
Does the map service you choose have any impact on level mapping performance? For instance, I was trying out level mapping with service1 and the ground textures were very clear and sharp. I tried the same level mapping settings with Service3 and the ground textures were kind of blurry compared to how they looked with Service1. I realize it could just be the quality of the map images, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask.Thanks...

FSX crashes when loading flight
That's sounds easy enough to do even for a dummy like me. I will get right on that and thank you for the tip.I have found that Service3 has nice coverage area and so far has worked great everywhere i've gone. Service1 seems to be lakcing in quality overhead images in a lot of places I've tested so far and the ground images are horrible. Funny thing is, Service1 looks best for my home area so that is probably the one I will use for making my home area cache. For exploring, I think it's best to stick to Service3 based on my tests.

FSX crashes when loading flight
Thanks for the info. So far I have been deleting scenery after every session, although I imagine that I should keep the files that download for my home area since I fly that most often. If the files TP needs already exist in cache, does TP skip downloading them again? If so, then I will definitely stop flushing the files from my area so that I save bandwidth usage. I need to call my internet provider and make sure I don't have any bandwidth restrictions before I go to crazy with this program. With regards to performance, I did up the sliders and mesh resolution back to the maximum. That introduced some bad stutters and performance loss. So what I did was set my affinity for TP to only use Core0 and set the affinity for FSX to my last 3 cores. Doing that eliminated the stutters altogether.

FSX Crashes at 39% g2d.dll Error
When I first installed TP, my flights crashed at 39% all the time. The fix for me (and I don't know why it worked) was to not change the date. I even thought this was a ridiculous fix so I tested it out. When I leave the date alone (I can change the time), TP loads fine. When I change the date, crash at 39%. Go figure.Don't have an answer for your windowed/full screen problem. I only use full screen.
