Cloud option trick with ASE
With ASA, there was a trick that you had to use to get proper cloud rendering for some a particular problem. I can't remember exactly what the problem was because it's been so long, but the trick was to set 3 of the 4 cloud options (CAVOK, No Data, Cirrus and Stratus) to 0 and one of the four options to 1.If anyone knows what i'm talking about, does this trick still apply with ASE or can we use higher values for these 4 options now?Thanks...

Use Service1 and take off from Carson City, Nevada heading East and enjoy some real TileProxy goodness. Service1 has some great images in that general area.

TP outside of the USA
I live in the US and so far all of my TP flights have been in the US. Today, I decided to try overseas with terrible results. Almost every place I tried, I got constant 'Problem loading at level 14' error messages and horrible looking tiles.So I was wondering, is there anything special you need to do to use TP anywhere besides the US? Are the map services only for the US or are they for the world?

Did you get a working ProxyUser.ini file? I don't think the one that gets installed with the program works. Try downloading one of the ones from this website: TileProxy Guide

How do you extend the range...
I have already gone ahead and changed all my min-max to 10-17.Something I got wondering about today when I was flying without TP and it might sound stupid, but is there any way to do some kind of level mapping tricks when FSX loads default textures, i.e. not TP textures?

I was correct. Using level mapping=10,11,15,15,16,16,17,17,18,19 did induce stuttering, especially when banking, but man was it cool to see for a brief period of time. Wish my system was capable of seeing this all the time. I can't see any transition to lower quality on the horizon. I'm going to have to come up with some level mapping settings that get me close to this now that i've seen how good it could look. Maybe it was a bad idea to try this. :)

I get it now. I took what you said and started messing with my level mapping setting and now I understand how to get the transition layer extended far enough out to where it's barely noticable. I'm using these settings for now:min_level=10max_level=19map_version=401level_mapping=10,11,13,15,15,16,16,17,18,19I know you told me in another thread that i'm really only using 10-17 with a max=15 setting, but I left the 18 and 19 in there because they didn't seem to be causing any issues. I might get a little crazy and try something like 10,11,15,15,16,16,17,17,18,19 and see just how bad FSX performs with those settings. I imagine it's going to cause a bit of stuttering and loss of performance, but what they hey. It's worth a shot.I'm slowly starting to understand how all this stuff works. The explanation about the rings was awesome. Thanks for taking the time to explain that.

So what you're saying is that once I get most of my home area cached really well, this obvious difference will become less obvious? That might explain why it didn't seem so obvious when I was flying in another direction last night and it was the same direction I had flown on a previous test flight. Now if you are saying that level 14 is the odd color, could you use level mapping to eliminate level 14 and replace it with another level that matches the color better?So if I understand you correctly, in theory I could fly back and forth from top to bottom of an entire state and cache the whole thing and I would basically have an entire photoscenry package for that state. I know this is an unrealistic thing to attempt, but in theory is that possible? Yes, that is KPIT area with Service1. I like the look of it better than Service3. Just seems a bit brighter and more colorful.

Don't know if this is possible, but how do you extend the range that TP will render tiles? As you can see in this picture, the range in front of me that TP is rendering tiles is not very far. Is this the normal range? Is this something that level mapping would eliminate? I have already set my level of detail range slider in FSX to large, but it doesn't render tiles very far out in front of me.Thanks....

Map service and level mapping
Does the map service you choose have any impact on level mapping performance? For instance, I was trying out level mapping with service1 and the ground textures were very clear and sharp. I tried the same level mapping settings with Service3 and the ground textures were kind of blurry compared to how they looked with Service1. I realize it could just be the quality of the map images, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask.Thanks...

FSX crashes when loading flight
That's sounds easy enough to do even for a dummy like me. I will get right on that and thank you for the tip.I have found that Service3 has nice coverage area and so far has worked great everywhere i've gone. Service1 seems to be lakcing in quality overhead images in a lot of places I've tested so far and the ground images are horrible. Funny thing is, Service1 looks best for my home area so that is probably the one I will use for making my home area cache. For exploring, I think it's best to stick to Service3 based on my tests.

Thanks for the info. So far I have been deleting scenery after every session, although I imagine that I should keep the files that download for my home area since I fly that most often. If the files TP needs already exist in cache, does TP skip downloading them again? If so, then I will definitely stop flushing the files from my area so that I save bandwidth usage. I need to call my internet provider and make sure I don't have any bandwidth restrictions before I go to crazy with this program.With regards to performance, I did up the sliders and mesh resolution back to the maximum. That introduced some bad stutters and performance loss. So what I did was set my affinity for TP to only use Core0 and set the affinity for FSX to my last 3 cores. Doing that eliminated the stutters altogether.

FSX Crashes at 39% g2d.dll Error
When I first installed TP, my flights crashed at 39% all the time. The fix for me (and I don't know why it worked) was to not change the date. I even thought this was a ridiculous fix so I tested it out. When I leave the date alone (I can change the time), TP loads fine. When I change the date, crash at 39%. Go figure.Don't have an answer for your windowed/full screen problem. I only use full screen.

Since everything is working great, I think I'm going to skip the level mapping for now unless it does something amazing. As good as everything looks now, I can't imagine what level mapping would do to improve things, but obviously it does or it wouldn't be an option. I'm surprised I don't miss the autogen as much as I thought I would. I imagine it's because without it I get a huge boost in performance. Plus the autogen would cover up all the wonderful photoscenery I know get to see. :)If I wanted to run the level of detail radius on large and the mesh complexity at 100% (right now they are set on medium and 85%), do I have to change anything in the ProxyUser.ini file or do I simply have to adjust the sliders in FSX? I'd like to try it and see what happens. I looked through the .ini file, but couldn't see anything that refers to those two settings.

I got it. I'm not sure what made it work this time, but all my previous attempts have been done on my WindowsXP partition. I did try it once on my Vista and W7 partitions, but had no luck there either. For whatever reason, I decided to give it one more attempt on my Vista partition and this time it worked. Would love to know why it wouldn't work on XP, but at at this point I don't care. As long as it works somewhere. If I ever want togo back to default settings, i'll just fly FSX under XP or W7 and leave Vista to handle TileProxy flights. Great program now that I got it working. Did a real quick test flight over my home area of Pittsburgh with great results. One thing I did notice (and it's not a complaint) is that generic tree and building autogen is gone. I'm assuming this is normal with the nature of the program or is there a way to get those things back? Haven't fooled with level mapping yet because i'm not sure how the ProxyUser.ini file needs to be configured for that. Plus, my range is set for medium. Would like to try it at full range to see the effect on performance and also to get that green distant textures somewhat less visable. I know I need to adjust the slider in FSX, but do I also need to make a change in the .ini file? Lastly, I noticed that TP changed my mesh complexity to 85. I used to use 100. Should I just leave it at 85 or bump it back up to 100?Thanks for putting up with me. I'm sure i'm not done with questions yet though. Once I get to the level mapping thing, i'll be lost again.

Just tried making the changes you suggested and it still doesn't work. I think 'im going to give up. Seems like a wonderful program, but I just can't figure out why it won't work for me and i'm getting tired of uninstalling\reinstalling and trying all of these different settings. Thanks for trying to help. Maybe someday i'll give it another go when I have a little more patience. Right now i'm getting a little too frustrated to keep plugging away at it.What frustrates me is that the files are being downloaded, but for some reason TP and FSX won't play nice together to display what's being downloaded. I know the two programs are communicating because the DOS window lets me know when the simulation is being run, but all I ever get are those non-detailed tiles and I lose all autogen except for airports. And obviously something is wrong because my flights are loading in under a minute, but the tutorial says they should take 5-15 minutes. That tells me the tiles are not getting to FSX.

Lloyd,I appreciate the help, but i have to be honest, I don't understand a single thing you said in your repsonse. :) The proxyuser file I got was supposed to be one that works right out of the box. It came from the tutorial page. So I'm assuming any settings in there are ones that would\should work. As for what these settings do\mean, I have no clue so you'll have to be patient with me here when you post responses. I may not understand what you mean.With regards to max_load=15, if I am using that setting (which I think means the 1m setting in FSX) and I am using mapping service 3, do the numbers I have set for that service match up with what they need to be? Do I need to change any other numbers somewhere else in the .ini file?I'll change the cache files settings you listed and see what happens.I don't use service example 1, but i'll make that change anyway in case I ever want to.I'll set me min-max to 10-17 and i'm assuming I should add that level_mapping entry as well. What would it be if I ever wanted to try 60cm? 9-19?I'll delete the acme sutff once I get everytihng working. For now I just want to get TP to work. Cleanup will come afterwards.The reason for ServiceMap 4 is simply because it came with the Proxy file. Like I said, I got this from the tutorial page and tried to use it as is because it was supposed to work.BTW, just for some additional info in case it will help. TP is definitely downloading the files properly because I looked at the .jpgs in the cache folder and they matched the yahoo map images. So I know the files are being downloaded.

Been doing some forum searches trying to resolve this issue. I seem to be having the same problem as the guy in this thread (http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=263774&hl=FSX+crashes). Unfortunately, I tried all the suggestions listed in it with no luck. I'm starting to think like this guy that I'm just never going to get to use TileProxy and like him, I don't understand why i'm having problems when everyone else seems to have TP working fine. Very frustrating.

FSX crashes when loading flight
Well i'm making progress. I figured out the crashing part I think. Oddly enough, it seems like if I try and change the date i'm flying it will crash, but if I keep the current date/time my flight will load up just fine. Now I just have to figure out why my ground looks like this:First off, there's no detail at all to the textures. Secondly, there should be a river below me. And third, I no longer have any autogen. Do I need to disable any other addons I may use, like UTX or a custom landclass? Also, TileProxy put the scenery entries at the top of my scenery list above everything else. Is that where they need to go or should I move them down below some default scenery entry? And where exactly should the WORLD_LOD8 entry go in relation to the other entries that TileProxy adds to your scenery.cfg file?

FSX crashes when loading flight
Okay, I sort of resolved my crash issue. I tried taking off from another location and everything loaded fine, but now I have a different problem. All my textures are blurry with no detail to them. And the strange thing is, that my flight loaded super fast. Based on the tutorial I read http://edtruthan.com/tileproxy/tutorial/, I was expecting it to take like 15 minutes to load my flight. Instead it loaded in about 30 seconds. So now my question is once i pick my airport, plane, weather and time of day\season, am I supposed to wait 15 minutes before I hit the fly now button or can I hit that button right away?CPU - Core 2 Quad @3.0ghzMemory - 4gigs of RAMWindowsXP SP3I use the proxyuser.ini file provided in the tutorial I linked to above.

FSX crashes when loading flight
I'm new to TileProxy so be kind. I did try to search this forum for possible help before posting this, but didn't really find any threads that matched my problem. I do believe that I installed and setup tileproxy properly, but obviously not because it's not working. What happens is that everything seems to be going fine, but when FSX is loading a flight, it always crashes when it reaches 39%. Would anyone have any thoughts as to what might be wrong? It doesn't have to be an exact answer, but if someone could point me in the right direction as to what to look for, maybe I could resolve it myself.Thanks....
