I have found a way around my problem it's a bit long winded but worked fine. (NB before doing this I disabled anti virus just incase and also right clicked and ran everything as administrator) 1. Uninstall NGX2. Uninstall FSX SP2 using the uninstall in the control panel.3 Find fsx cfg file and delete.4. Start Fsx (now without SP2) allow new cfg file to be built.5. Re install SP2 for fsx.6. Re install NGX. All switches in the VC are now present and correct and the external lighting look brilliant. Thanks Barrie Davies

I have found that by checking the box Preview direct x 10 in the settings menu of flight sim the switches re-appear and the outside lights are visible. However there is a severe performance degrade when this is selected so I do not want to run the game with this box checked. I have never had to check it for any of your other models such as 747 or md11. Does this need to be checked for the ngx, your manuals also state that:"Turn setting off. DX10 does not significantlyenhance the visual quality of the simulator and it exacts a heavyperformance toll in the simulator."ThanksBarrie Davies

I have tried what you suggested with the cfg file. I let it get rebuilt but the same problem of missing switches remained. Are there any graphics settings you can recommend altering? I current have an Nvidia 9600GT 512mb graphics card running driver version 275.33 (8.17.12.7533) Thanks for any help, Barrie Davies

I do not have any liveries installed at present, just the PMDG house liveries. I will try downloading a livery a.s.a.p and see whether the switches are present. Is there any livery in particular that has been recently replaced that you recommend? Thanks Barrie Davies

Hi there, My missing switches are still missing, I havn't been able to find a solution. I have submitted a support ticket to PMDG but I still have not had any response, i guess they are very busy at the moment. Do your lights show from the external view? Although my switches are missing, I seem to be able to click on them, and hear the click noise. However when I go to the external view, the actual lights do not show up on the external model. My switches are missing from the panel and my external strobes and collision light etc do not work, does anyone else have this problem? Barrie Davies

I have had the same trouble with the NGX. A solution that has worked for me is to go to the FSX settings and under the aircraft tab uncheck the box that says "aircraft casts shadows upon itself." I have had no trouble with the external visuals since. thanks Barrie Davies

Yes this time take off was much more managable. The FD bars did not command such a high pitch, rotation was much smoother and the aircraft trimmed itself out quite nicely with not such a dramitic need for correction from the LSAS system.Guess derating the take off is the solution here. The MD11 seems to be a good climber at TO thrust. Quite difficult to manage on FSX.Thanks for your help here. Will maybe look into getting TopCat. Would you recomend it?Barrie Davies

I still find that the trim correction is a quite excessive. Maybe I should try using derated thrust? This way maybe the fd will not require such a high angle to maintain V2+10 and I will not have to trim so much off the intial TO trim setting.Barrie Davies

Is there a technique to trimming the aircraft after takeoff rotation? I gently rotate the aircraft and try to follow the FD bars in order to maintain pitch at V2+10. What I find is that the aircraft's LSAS has to adjust the trim quite alot once I have released the pressure on the yoke. For example take off pitch maybe 6.0 but after rotating and adjusting pitch to maintain V2+10 then elevator pitch alters quite alot down to around 3-3.5 in some cases even less.Should I be manually trimming the aircraft after rotation or allow LSAS to do it all? I was under the impression that LSAS should be relied upon for small pitch changes.Barrie Davies

Would you say that manual trimming should be used as the main means to trim the md11? Since using the md11 I have always assumed that LSAS was the primary source of trim on the aircraft and that you had to rely on it to take care of the trim for you, kind of like the fly by wire of the Airbuses. Can you suggest any flying tips with regards to trim. I guess all I have been doing is pitching to the amount I want and letting the stick go, relying on LSAS to trim for me. Perhaps this is not the best technique?ThanksBarrie Davies

I am also a little bit confused about LSAS, particularly the option in the PMDG menu that relates to sensitivity? Can you explain what this is for. I have read the manual regarding it but I'm not 100% sure. Does for example setting the sensitivity to Light make the LSAS function less aggressively or does light reffer to joystick pressure etc. Will setting the sensitivity to light make the LSAS react with less input from the controlsAny help would to understand this would be appreciated.Thank YouBarrie Davies

Hi there, don't mean to be picky but are the control movements of the md11 suppose to be so twitchy? I find that the autopilot responses to pitch and roll are quite jerky at times and from the vc the control coloumn seems to be moving fast. Is this just how the sim is modelled or can this be adjusted in anyway? I would like the autopilot to respond more smoothly to commands. Does anyone else find this happens?Thanks Barrie

I am trying to find out how to enter a fix in the fms. After I have typed in the name of the fix postion I try to enter a bearing and distance but always get the message "format error"?Can anyone help or explain the format in which the bearing and distance need to be entered,Thanks for your help.Barrie
