Supervan FDE
The First Upgrades I believe were the Blackhawks with a 850 shp engine and a four bladed prop. Texas Turbines upgrade the Caravan with a 900 shp engine and a four bladed prop. Cessna now offers the Caravan EX with a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-140 867 SHP turboprop with a three bladed prop. Now the visual model do not even have to be changed, unless the bigger engine compartment is noticeable.

Supervan FDE
I would like to upgrade the Caravan to the Supervan (900shp) engine. Do I only change the shp to 900 (or pro rata equivilant), or will there be other work as well?

C208B with Glass Cockpit for FSX?
I downloaded a video from Youtube today: 15 Minute Flight to Ternate - Susi Air Cessna Grand Caravan .flv It shows a Susi Air Caravan 208B with a full Glass Cockpit. Is there perhaps one somewhere available for FSX?

Offending Textures?
DXT format textures solved the problem. Working fine.

Offending Textures?

In the 3D cockpit everything, in all directions are black, nothing to be seen, except in the forward view. There I see the panel, bout only the outline. The panel plate is gone, all the gauges are there as well as per gauge a small piece of background.

However, I have done the following:

I have tried to alias the panel to the default caravan, but then the aircraft did not show up as an aircraft I can choose to fly with.

I then copied the default interior to the model directory of the Feelthere Caravan and renamed it to Caravan_interiour.mdl so that it correspond with the exteriour model. It worked by fixing the prop disk inside and external views, but the windows are not transparent and the two pilot chairs are without sides.. The 2D side views are also showing, believe it or not, as it is not bitmap views, but 3D model views.

Offending Textures?
I have very recently asked a question on this same forum, named Solid prop circles in FSX . I downloaded a FSX C123 that was converted from FS2004, where the propcircle was solid. The forum members said I must use DXT2BMP to convert the propcircle texture. In the end I used another version that displayed correctly. Now I have drawn in the Feelthere Caravan of FS2004 and I have the same propcircle problem. I also have black textures inside the aircraft when I view sideways and forward the panel textures are missing. The gauges are there. I would like to know if this is the same problem that I can fix with DXT2BMP? I must add that I like this Caravan as it is well designed, not problematic and also features a 2D panel. I have logged a lot of hours on this aircraft and I really would like to refurbish it for FSX.

Turboprop Reverse thrust question
It is a Turboprop so it must be similar than the Kingair.

Turboprop Reverse thrust question
Thaks, I will give it a try. Normally if you are stationary and you apply full reverse the aircraft is suppose to taxi slowly bakwards. My above mentioned setting does not do that yet. It only stops the aircraft, but still not fast enough.

Turboprop Reverse thrust question
I have been trying to tune the flight dynamics of an aircraft in FSX. It is a turboprop aircraft that must have reverse thrust. The file that I started from did not have reverse thrust that I could see. In the aircraft.cfg file the following entry was present: [Propeller] prop_reverse_available = 1 I have added the following entry: [TurbineEngineData] reverser_available = 1 The desired effect is almost complete. The aircraft does stop after I have cut the fuel (F1) and applied reverse thrust (F2), and this help, but not fast enough. Is there a setting where I can increase the reverse thrust or increase the fraction reverse thrust is of normal forward thrust?

3D Panel question
I am asking as I am not so clued up with 3D cockpit panel files. When I fly the Captain Sim Herc (L100-30) I prefer the panel that can be brought up with the simicon icon L. This is not the default panel page. However when I cycle through views (for exmple when my sound is very soft en the late evening, to see whether the landing gear has lowered or gone up) I do not get back to the L panel when I finish the cycle but a smaller one wich was the original default. 1) I first have to press the L (simicon) to get the pannel and then the yoke (simicon) to make it go away. Can I, as with 2D panels at the panal.cfg entry, visble, add a 1 to force it to be visible? If, How do I set the view as the default? 2) Also when I boot the Herc or after the view cycle is completed, the simicons and the reality XP toggle is gone. I then have to go to the FSX tab menu views/Instrument panel, and enable it mannually. Can the panel be set that it will at all times display until I disable it the same way? 3) The panel also displays the bottom windows of the cockpit (there are physical windows next to your leg to look through at the runway or terrain), but in the L100-30 they are not there as it is the civilian version, although it is available as an option before you order. All civilian Hercs however are without them. How can I add a bitpap immage of a canvas or leather map case over it to hide it? Regards Johan

Solid prop circles in FSX
Thanks, I will save this for future use. I have in the mean time downloaded another version, the file name is C_123_K_Provider25th_Updated_By_Nor_Cal_Prop_Club.zip , of the same aircraft. Just a few gauges in the panel differs. This is already converted and displays 100%. I am now in the process of downloading Laos scenery to do some bush flying. That's why I was looking for this old bird.

Solid prop circles in FSX
I guess the author, with the source files, will be able to compile it with the correct SDK to a native FSX file.

Uh Oh! VIRUS
I am using Comodo Internet Security (Free) currently. It also has flagged and removed some FS files in the past. Fortunately you can restore the files and add it to trusted files. Some files for FS are designed to access yoy registry, some .dll files and several exe files. Some firusses do the same, therefore you will get false positives from time to time.

Solid prop circles in FSX
I have downloaded and installed the Fairchild C-123 K "Provider" Package for FSX by Vladimir Zhyhulskiy. I see that the plane was converted from FS9. This plane is an absolute beuty. The panel 2D and 3D are excellent as well as everything. Custom gauges and all. There is however one problem. The prop circles are rotationg but are not transparent. Even at top speed. I don't know if one of my settings is causing this. I would like to kee0p this plane as it is a real vafourite. Any suggestions or perhaps reference to another model of this plane that does display correctly in FSX?

[RESOLVED] Avsim slow?
Extremely, super frustrating slow. I guess something is wrong somewhere.

Slicing in Gmax
I am designing a square shaped fuselage where I have five vertices to define each corner (to make it round).I have made it from a cylinder primitive. with22 verices in the cross section - the 20 for the four corners and on on top and bottom so that I can cut it in half, lengthwise should I need to.If I slice the fuselage to add more cross sections, the cross section ends up with more vertices. Is there a way to slice without increasing the number of vertices, except cutting from side line to side line?I have slices without selecting anything, I have selected polygons where I want to slice and I have removed smoothing and I have without removing smoothing. No success.

Symmetry question for Gmax
In FSDS you have the option to move vertices in the right upper corner in lets say the front view and automatically the same happen in the left upper corner in mirror reverse. So I can push vertices in the right half and exactly the same happen in the left half. How do I do that in Gmax.I am referring to do it just after I have created the fuselage from a cylinder, before I have split it in half.

Backdrop Toggle?
Hi,I am now slowly getting along with Gmax. At last. One question:I have now added the calibration box, from which I have detached the six sides as separate items. How do I toggle that item backdrop to disappear so that I can have a better and darker background to see better if I zoom in very close. And if possible how to toggle it back.

Mdl editing...
I have copied the interior.mdl file into the model directory of the outer aircraft. I then eddited the model.cfg file to make the interior refer to the correct file. The interior model automatically call up the relevant textures. Work for me.

Gmax Calibration box help needed
Interesting. I think FSDS will still be my favorite for scenery objects should I ever decide to make some. Maybe for a bush landing strip's building or so.However my interest is really in Aircraft. I am now working through the tutorials that came with Gmax. Not too bad. I got stuck for days with the Calibration Box, but that is now sorted out. Gmax really rocks. So much more powerful than FSDS. I am going to keep playing until I master the program. There are so much more possibilities.

Gmax Calibration box help needed
Actually I find it easier now. I have previously tried Gmax and got nowhere. I have tried Blender as well with no success too. Then I bought three video tutorials from Cartoonsmart and after that I started to get along with Blender. I have tried also several 3d CAD packages until I bought Punchcad Pro 7. It was not difficult to pick it up and easy enough to figure out most of the design problems with that. My engineer drawings get along quite well. I can see what I am planning before I start up my lathe.FSDS I found very easy to learn. You also are in the position to design good stuff but the program is not so powerful as Gmax or other 3d programs like Blender. You have to do most stuff with just basic tools where the full 3D suites have more options. However I am a big mouth now so only time will learn. I am going to try. But I must say it makes more sense now. I have read in another post that Gmax is actually 3DS Max 4. I just hope that they will make a later version of Gmax (3DS Max 6 or in the near future. I am even willing to pay for it. It appears to me that Autodesk is slowly starting to cater for the lower budget customer as well. They are now far advanced with their 123 Program. I can just hope they will further Gmax as well. Even if they only update it to run for further versions of Windows as well.

Gmax Calibration box help needed
OK,At last I have solved the mystery by doing it over and over and over and.....After I have drawn the box, I have added a Edit Mesh above the box in the Modify box, gone to poly and added a bitmap to the bottom side. Here I got stuck. Then I fugured out that I had to add another Edit mesh above the UVW Mapping in the Modify Hierarchy. I selected the side and repeated the process. I have managed to add a bitmap but I could not manage to rectify it with the UVH Mapping or even the Unwrap. Here I got stuck again. Then I figured it out that to change the bitmap is to click on the Y Alignment and then fit. Now it is working. My biggest problem was the hierarchy: UVW Mapping Edit Mesh UVW Mapping Edit Mesh UVW Mapping Edit Mesh UVW Mapping Edit Mesh BoxYou must read it from the bottom, upwards and not downwards like in some other programs. You have to highlight the upper UVH Mapping entry when you add the next Edit Mesh entryNow it is completely making sense. It was totally Greek no me but now it is so simple. A bit different from Blender, Punchcad, Poser and FSDS but the principles are there. It Is true what they say: Repeat enough, and you will later find it easy. Thanks for your assistance to guide me to the right direction. Now I can run through the introductory tutorials and then to the proper C-162 tutorial. What a tense Sunday afternoon to spend.

Gmax Calibration box help needed
Together with the backdrop tutorial video of the C-162 tutorial I am making progress, but if I manage to coat the bottom with a texture jpg, it also changes the existing one when I put a new texture to one of the sides. The tutorial of the above mentioned shows how they do it, but still I am battling. Four more hours wasted. I'll get it.

Gmax Calibration box help needed
Tom,Thanks. Now it make sense.I have mapped one wall and it worked.I had to play around with the four points in the unwrap window, itill I got the whole image in and now it projects perfectly on the wall. From here onwards I can work. Thanks a million. One question:After I started the Material editor, New, I have three choices: Standard, Multi-Material and FlightsimX. What is the FlightsimX for? Reflective image for a final part?
