They’ve always had this policy. Agreed it’s not helpful when potential customers want to assess things before buying.

I don't think it was always, it was around the time after MSFS came out and there were Airbus's that they locked down their forums.

So my guess is they didn't want people to learn how to fly other Airbuses from their forum.

You heard right...and it's confirmed in the manual and here:

    https://forums.flightsimlabs.com/topic/32992-a-note-on-our-new-virtual-crew-system/

I wrote a post in this forum in response.

    Richard.

seems like you have to buy the product to see the post ... what do they say?

i think having the virtual "helpers" is a pretty reasonable for the broader market MSFS release but hopefully they allow the full functionality for the hardcores

    • Cockpits do seem a bit darker but brighten up with direct light so maybe it is the lighting engine

The cockpit lighting doesn't seem to work in the A2A C172 or MilViz planes so even if the cockpit is brighter the lighits that could be illuminating the panel are not working so the planes are pretty much inop during darker times of the day.

Was very much looking to the TXAA (which seems to work quite well) and the new weather engine, but it's a shame the new lighting engine requires tweaking for old add ons and I feel the "presentation" of the terrain seems much worse than default P3DV5. It's uninstall time now ... might not be going back to P3D for a while 😞

  4. Trying it out for a month with a developer's license, fresh install without P3DV5 on the system

    • Maddog has some installation error (it says SimConnect v5.4 needs to be installed)
    • A2A C172 seems to work
    • MilViz 737-200 seems to work
    • MilViz T-38A seems to work
    • RealAir Lancair Legacy - A few installation errors relating to effects but still goes through, seems to work

    General comments:

    • Cockpits do seem a bit darker but brighten up with direct light so maybe it is the lighting engine
    • Did they try to make the autogen better? It seems to be much worse, there are clumps of dark looking buildings
    • The patch took a really long time, it seemed to be spending most of the time on validating the install
    • For people who really like to fly some planes without alternatives this seems to be good
    • Default airports are a bit better but still no where close to X-Plane default and it's not going to make you not want to try to install add-ins
    • TXAA seems alright with me, the image quality is much nicer than previous iterations of AA

This is nothing more than a cash grab from loyal CP users. As Ray mentioned, the camera api appears unchanged and it would be a trivial task to add P3Dv6 support to the previous version. I’m sure people would be ok with a nominal upgrade fee in that case. As it is, in order to use their previous camera sets, which they have spent alot of time setting up, they are asked to pay the ridiculous “upgrade” fee for a program they can’t even use in older sim versions. What a grift!

I do agree this could be handled and communicated better, especially with the earlier "complaining" earlier by the devs, but ultimately any price would have generated complaints anyways "CUZ IT'S SO LITTLE WORK!".

They noted before the reduced the price after MSFS released and that didn't really boost sales so maybe a lower price doesn't give them much of an upside.

edit: Can I ask what "loyalty" you mean here? you paid a fixed amount (which wasn't that high) and then maybe you used the software a lot.

  6. People wanted ChasePlane we get ChasePlane and then of course the complaints about the price.

ChasePlane was initially launched October 2016 so almost 6 years of support on the original license, 5 versions of P3D support and FSX support. People want infinite support for free. Tough crowd can see why no one wants to develop for P3D anymore.

I once heard an LM employee give a talk where he stated that the models in the box with P3D are not even made by LM. Apparently they outsource them to avoid any potential for sensitive data to make its way into the public product and they have much better models for their military customers we will never get our hands on.

i recall it was described in the talk here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4d0Xj3XUH4.

  8. Some of my comments on the video:

    • Like Adam said he wasn't sure about all the best settings to use but he does have a top of the line machine
    • He was using TAA but I couldn't tell from the stream if it was much better
    • Dark cockpit for the NGXu is probably the biggest issue - have others resolved this?
    • NGXu weather radar didn't work with how his ActiveSky was setup
    • Lack of ChasePlane support makes the camera change views difficult - a lot of right click menus on the stream
    • The lighting on the terrain actually looked pretty good with Orbx Global and OpenLC
    • Captain commented that the turbulence was quite good
    • Cloud depiction is definitely better

His conclusion was that it's not worth it to make the move if the big add-on makers provide some support

Advanced radar (and the related radar API/SDK) is not available with volclouds right now.  We hope to bring this out in the future.  The non-detailed precip mapping and xgauge display is available, as well as any other P3D API/SDK-based weather/radar display, such as some 3rd party aircraft and the default P3D radar display/view.

To clarify, can we have both the Volumetric Clouds and the precipitation radar for add-in planes at the same time?

P3DV5 was a work in progress from first release and LM walking away with the job half done is to me far worse than anything PMDG has done. Leaving 5.4 in the state its in is pretty despicable move rather than fix what we all paid for. We are all left now with a sim with some ugly visuals that have been left unfixed by LM and no real prospect of any fix ever.

It's a bit optimistic to expect a huge visual upgrade in a point release (i.e. you want it for free) and also maintain all add-on compatibility.

Yes. There were rumours the original NGX would work but perhaps without a working Wx radar. I bit the bullet and paid the full price for a second time. The lack of a discount for a previous customer was not appreciated.

Hopefully you got the MSFS credit at least. Me on the other hand bought it after that offer expired 🤦‍♂️.
