Most of the images/videos posted concerning dark cockpits have FOV way off.  The logic used is this - I can see a wide FOV in the real aircraft, so I want the same FOV on my monitor.  Makes no sense to me when the simulated world is being viewed through a frame the size of the monitor.  A FOV way too wide for the monitor size distorts distance and speed, and also makes dark cockpits an issue.

My video above shows what a correct FOV looks like in the default cub. So many screenshots I see look like the virtual pilot is sitting in the back seat. There is no dark cockpit in my cub video - that fact is just ignored, judging by the zero responses saying there isn't a dark cockpit in the video.

so the choice is to not be able to see anything (narrow field of view) ... or not be able to see anything (dark cockpit) ? 😅

I just quickly recorded a "through the lens" VR view.

The transition is only visible in 2D

he very black edges you get in 2D.

I'd say the root cause is probably not having a proper FOV setup, putting the eye adaptation out of whack.

I didn't really notice this before, because 2D sucks in so many more ways than that I can't really bare to look at it.

EDIT: yeah, if I set a "proper" field of view the transition all but vanishes, but then of course in an airliner even on a 19 inch monitor the cockpit isn't exactly usable either

    Monitor width including bezel:

    19"

    Visible width excluding bezel:

    17.4"

    Viewing distance:

    24"

    Field of View when driving:

    42°

thanks for sharing that ... think goes to show a bit of compromise here helps with different setups

Majority?  How many people have you surveyed?  What are the percentages?  We need figures and facts.

I'll be eagerly awaiting your response, because if it's as you say it is, I'll be more than happy to go to Laminar with the figures.

Come on you're being a bit extra difficult here ... I'm sure the X-Plane team take feedback on features even when we don't have a statistically significant survey.

It would seem like there is interest in having brighter cockpits and perhaps that can be an option. It is a common complaint for other sims (e.g. MSFS, P3D) and there are preferences for a brighter cockpit.

AMD 5800X with 32Gb 3600 RAM, AMD RX6800XT 16Gb, 1GB SSD with W11 and dedicated 256Gb SSD for XP. UWQHD monitor.
All drivers and W11 up to date. XP12 demo 12.04r3.

Feel probably could be a tad more, although the ZIBO is heavy on frames

I'm running Win 10, 10600K, 32 GB, RX 6700 XT, UWQHD getting more than you, 2x MSAA everything else max / on and think I'm doing better than what you're showing. Noticed you had Zink already enabled.

It's pretty much necessary to do a full ground-up rebuild, as the many add-ons that put license key and config data into the registry need the installer run to do that.

Remember certain add-ins like FSLabs, PMDG or even Prepar3d itself to deactivate the product before moving to a new computer!

  6. There is a setting in the configuration manager, when you modify the settings for each livery you can choose the setting.

For some reason that option doesn't appear when you are in the Prepar3D menu.

Probably best to check the support forum for a more prompt response!

  7. where is this Q1 announcement? what did we miss?
it's a bit silly for FSL to prevent visitors to their general forums ... i can understand for the tech and support forums

I'm interested in the Concorde but very worried about the time commitment to learn. How many hours of tutorials and mulling over the cockpit will it take someone who has only flown Airbus and Boeings with FMCs?

Where, exactly? I followed your link and from what I can tell, in Januar 2022 they stated “no new P3D enthusiast developments, but existing products continue to be available 50% off“ (paraphrasing here of course). The announcement of the complete P3D enthusiast withdrawal was only a month ago, not a year, as some here have said.

Please read my post, I copied the forum message there. It doesn’t say much though.

Interesting point of view.  The textures look good to me at least from what I've seen on videos of it, like in the one above.  I will admit though sometimes when looking at a plane from only in screenshots and videos it can be a bit hard to judge compared to loading it up in the sim and seeing it yourself, especially if they are lower resolution images your looking at.  There've been times I've been surprised one way or the other when I load a plane up for the first time when it comes to how the VC looks.  I did hear about the texture issues with the MSFS version but I don't use MSFS very often.

BTW it's likely that the reason you have a hard time reading the VC text labels is because you use MSAA.  MSAA adds a little bit of fuzzy-ness look to everything compared to SSAA.  If you use SSAA the whole VC looks much better, the gauges and text labels look more crisp and are easier to read and even the yokes looks better, everything does.  I highly recommend using SSAA if possible.  And never use FXAA because it does the same thing MSAA does, only worse.  Also, adding more Tessellation I think makes the VC textures look better as well.

I think in screenshots it looks ok but when moving around in the cockpit it becomes a bit more obvious. I think the FSL and PMDG have better VC texturing.

I prefer to use MSAA if I can get away with it because it is easier on frames but agree need to use SSAA when flying the plane.

The external application configuration manager is a bit old school but does get the job done.

No arguments from me on the overall quality of hte plane.
