With the new AAU2 update and a somewhat updated Kai Tak in the 40th anniversary why wait?

Forget MSFS and P3DV6! This is the P3D forum and it's pretty clear that P3DV6 isn't just a copy and paste affair.
What about the promised updates for P3DV5? It seems that time has made people forget that people purchased these products believing that these updates would be delivered. A while back I went to trace the old forum posts so that I wasn't forgetting things.
Edit: Adding a bit more. If we are being realistic we probably will never see any updates from PMDG on P3D again. However instead of burying things and pretending nothing happened, I think it would be nice if they say, hey guys we fudged, we still love you guys. Everybody who purchased the 737 after the NGXu rebate, the 747, or 777 after the 777-200ER release please see <something> as a token of our appreciation for your support.

'Made in China' products are very competitive, so I've wondered why I haven't come across aircraft and other add-ons developed in China.
I think the iFly development team are Chinese (but not sure where they are based...)

You are right Chinese incomes are a lot lower than Western countries ... My guess is that X-Plane is probably a better alternative and access to better freeware sceneries through the gateway. There are some great sceneries for China made by WFSceneries but I also cannot imagine these having the universal appeal of other international hubs for western countries.
That being said I think Chinese translation was a priority task for MSFS so they are aware of the potential...

The latter isn't of much interest, but I wonder if the others were considered worthwhile? Especially Vector, which I don't understand exactly what that means in any case. Within all of this I do need to keep frame rates reasonable, and keep the whole purpose of why I'm doing this foremost in mind. Clearly the cost is also somewhat of a consideration, otherwise each time I turn it on will cost around $500 if I consider use v total costs.
Vector is not worth installing for P3D V5 and tends to introduce more problems.
Buildings and TerraFlora are nice additions they do make the default autogen noticeably better. But maybe fly with default without orbx and see if you can manage.

The Orbx add-ons could be something to try; the Global Base as you suggest. I'm interested in whether the country and ultimately the individual airports are considered worthwhile? Ironically the airports I go to all the time probably aren't of much use, as I know them quite well from real life, but if the airports are accurately modelled that could be very worthwhile for destinations I don't go to often. Taxiing around a large and unfamiliar airport at night is one of the more challenging things we do.
The default airports in P3D are pretty terrible so it is a nice addition to have airport add-ins for the proper airport layouts, gates and improved textures. The thing is airports can be pretty addictive and then it's hard to stop at just one.
For navigation data, I would presume that you have your company EFB you can look up charts so you could sign up for Navigraph for a month to get the FMS data. They do have FMS data for the Aerosoft A330. https://navigraph.com/downloads

If scenery is not a concern then these are pretty much the standard add-ins most tubeliner pilots use:
- ActiveSky P3D for realistic (and historical weather)
- ChasePlane for better controls on the cameras
- If you want to improve the generic land textures then orbx Global BASE is recommended
- GSX Ground Services if you want some ground services interactions and pushback

I think you've answered your own question ... Live weather is not historical so it will not change by time of day ...

I guess the freighter version would do but they are pricey - nearly $130AUD makes it more than a bit steep cost wise My main question is no idea about INI and no idea how the look and are finished (web site gallery is a bit limited) - some feedback would be appreciated!
It was sold for like $10 a few days ago ... please don't pay that price

5 hours ago, Sparkrite said:On a closing note, the vast majority of my P3D addons are working correctly with the latest V5.4 version, so how do they manage it?
... wasn't this the answer on the previous page:
23 hours ago, Lorby_SI said:For all addons you have to make a decision which SDK build you use for compiling/building/creating them. That is where the "lock" comes from. You can choose to stick with P3D 5.0 SDK - but then your products will not benefit from any improvements that have been introduced. With every new point release of P3D there is a new SDK too, and there are usually fixes mentioned in the release notes concerning the SDK as well, not only in-sim. And when there are mentions of "Fixed CTD when ... does ..." then I definitely want to upgrade...
So you can either decide to stick to an old SDK version, hoping that every new P3D release is actually backwards compatible (and then scramble madly when it actually isn't 100% compatible and all customers are complaining). Or stay with the "flow" and upgrade your addons to the new SDK when/if necessary every time.

Blackbox711 was streaming P3D V5.4 with the PMDG 747-8F and bombed twice... can see he was running ActiveSky and ChasePlane

P3D V5.4 support? At this stage they really should just let go of the version locking ...

WFSS VHHH is really great and goes well with the SamScene Hong Kong scenery
My favourite is always FlyTampa KLAS
Since we are on Hong Kong an honorable mention to FlyTampa's VHHX Kai Tak scenery which was supported from FS9 to P3D V5 which is incredible...

If an User really know what he's/she's doing there and is aware of the Consequences, the Installer should not force to fail-back on the old and "uncomfortable" Way to install the Plugin.
I won't make it anything easier though! It is just that Experience shows that some Users tend to fail at the easiest Step, so if there would be a separate Installer or a nice Button in the GUI you can be 99.999% sure that there will be at least one User installing for "X-Plane-only" although it will be used with MSFS 😅Maybe "choose the sims you would like to install for?" but agree this is probably a marginal use case, I'm just grateful your utility exists 😀.

Thanks Fragtality!
With the 0.7.9 installer, it made an assumption that because I had MSFS installed that I wanted to install Pilots Deck there but I wanted to install for X-Plane only.
It would not let me proceed without proceeding without installing Mobiflight. Therefore I just did the manual install. Not a big deal but just pointing it out.

Isn't everyone so excited to fiddle with registry entries and copying around files to get their P3D V5 add-ins to work 😛

@Damian Clark do you know if X-Plane has plans to make "global" weather rendition available through the API and for ASXP to support?

Is that the 8192 resolution setting? It didn't really seem to help me ... Or were you referring to a different script?

Take a chill pill 🙂 It's not really a surprise the consumer market has sailed.
I don't understand why people are upset they showed up at the expo ... more exhibitors and contributors the better.
We can enjoy P3D V5.4 as a final send off. LM took care of us when Microsoft did't.
