Cure for NGX external skeleton view?
I was seeing increased instances of skeleton aircraft along with slow loading textures in VC mode..."grayed out textures". This seemed to be a recent issue with my setup, about the last month or so. I've been running TML at 4096 and HD textures through the NGX performance config...or so I thought! After reading this thread, i decided to check the performance config again...oops! I didn't have the HD VC textures "checked." So, I clicked on it and then ran fsx again with the NGX. My issues with the skeleton aircraft and grayed out textures in the VC view are about 98% gone! i still have a couple of flashes of the symptoms but nothing like the 2-3 second problems of before. I do spend a lot of time flying around KSEA with max'd out settings, so a few micro flashes are to be expected... Thanks Howard for posting this as it has made flying my favorite aircraft that much more enjoyable!

A pic of my PMDG NGX Simulator cockpit...
Very high-tech design! black plastic pipe bolted to the underside of the table, then the yoke mounted to that! I have 3 monitors-40" main display, 17" for the PFD and NAV and a 15" for the standby and MFD. Actually the standby gauges are just thr F/O side PFD and NAV displays reduced down to fit the bezel size... I start the flight in windowed mode, then undock all the displays and drag them to their position and resize to fit. Once i have them where i want them i run a program to save the position and size of displays. then i switch to fullscreen mode and the window frames disappear. I've busy tweeking my system and decided to ditch the saitek yoke. I bought a PFC Saab Column Yoke, instead. It is soo much nicer! all metal with cast aluminum yoke...it feels awesome! Here is a quick video of everything in action (or lack of action, so to speak!). Don

A pic of my PMDG NGX Simulator cockpit...
"Is that pre-built or did you make it yourself?" No, I made the panel myself...3/16" aluminium sheet with 1/4" and 1/8" plywood sheets for the frames and panel sections. "Do you have a CDU on there or do you use the CDU on the PMDG?" I use the on-screen CDU, but plan on using the Virtual Avionics android app with my 10" asus tablet...worked well during beta testing! "How do you like that Saitek Pro Yoke?" It works for me OK, but I've modified the springs inside to give a light feel and to get a little more precision movement during landings... "Where is the keyboard?" I use a wireless keyboard and was sitting on the couch behind the simulator. ;-) "What's the mouse for?" Believe me, i would love to cut all ties to a keyboard and mouse but unless i spend thousands of dollars more, I'm stuck still using these things:-(

Would you buy a PC online?
Winstonbaby replied to angelekesabe's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcI actually bought my latest rig from Cyberpower.com. I was planning on building my own to save money, but after finding a comparable unit through Cyberpower and adding my own options to the build, it was literally $100 cheaper to buy the system from Cyberpower than to purchase the exact same parts list from NewEgg.com. Only complaint was that close to a year(and still in warranty) my BluRay/DVD burner started acting up. Tried to contact them but never got a response...BUT, have had other warranty issues that were handled right away. And to be honest, i didn't push it to hard as I had found a BluRay Burner for $60 on sale. Paid for by Credit card!

2D cockpit and VC conflict while running on seperate monitors
I really don't know exactly where to post this question but figured since it involved the NGX I would ask it here... So, I'm building a home cockpit based on the NGX. I have 3 monitors, one as primarily the forward view and 2 for different cockpit instruments. The PFD, NAV and Systems screens all run great on my 2 instrument monitors. I'm able to "Undock" them from either the 2D or Virtual cockpit views and move them to my other 2 monitors. Since the standby gauges and the flaps guage are not setup for separate windowed views, I created my own window views of these gauges in the panel.cfg file and now I'm able to open them in new windows, undock them and move the to the second or third monitor. The problem I'm having is once I change views on the primary monitor from 2D to VC(or to any other view for that matter), the gauges stop working. The windowed flaps gauge no longer moves in relation to the flaps setting and the standby gauges freeze. That is until I cycle back to the 2D cockpit view on the primary monitor. Is there any way to setup these gauges to display correctly even when cycling through other views? Hope this make sense! Thanks again! Son

Key Assignment controling wrong EFIS Function...Terrain
I'm trying to program a GoFlight Module(rp-48) as my EFIS. I'm able to assign everything properly using keyboard mapping after assigning most of the EFIS funtions keyboard assignments using the CDU. My only issue is after assigning the Terrain function with a keybaord assignment and programing the GoFlight module button with that keyboard assignment, it only controls the F/O display and not the Pilots display. Every other assignment works through my module... And, I know that both the F/O and Pilots EFIS can be program seperately... I've checked and only the Pilots EFIS "Terrain" feature is programed with a keyboard assignment in the CDU. Anyone else ever have this problem? Thanks. Don

Course heading showing up on PFD as dotted line? is this right?
Thank you folks for your help! I tried to figure it out by myself...but the knowledge base in this forum is far superior than my trouble shooting capabilities. Cheers to all!

Course heading showing up on PFD as dotted line? is this right?
I don't have a screen grab to show it but i've noticed a straight dotted line running through both PFD's inboard (navigation) display. I had not remembered this showing up before and was not sure on how or why it was there. After some knob turning and investigation, i found that it is representing the course heading on the "Co-pilots side" of the Collins MCP. When i turn the course knob on the co-pilots side, the dotted line turns to indicate the corisponding direction. This does not happen with the Pilot side Course knob is turned...Is this normal? I just don't remember seeing this before Thanks for your help on this! Don

Lost TrackIR after this latest update?
OK, That worked...but, i'm sure that's not supposed to be that way !

Lost TrackIR after this latest update?
Just updated to this latest beta 10.02b2 and my trackir quit working. I have it checked in the equipment section of the xplane menu, but nothing...And yes, it worked in the original xplane 10 demo and also in the first update. Anyone else have this problem?I also have the texture rendering problem with purple/blue highways and light green areas on the hilsides like others have with nVidia GC's...(only with HDR unchecked in rendering options).

Thinking of Ditching AMD, ATI for INTEL and NVIDIA?
Winstonbaby replied to Winstonbaby's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcSorry, I mis-spoke when I said Nhancer, it was Inspector instead...And yes I was able to fine tune the settings to get rid of the shimmering, as per the easy walk thru from NickN.

Thinking of Ditching AMD, ATI for INTEL and NVIDIA?
Winstonbaby replied to Winstonbaby's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcMy only issue with my NEW setup was the artifacts or shimmering with the Nvidia graphics card. I was willing to overlook this issue because of the increased FPS, but after setting up the Nvidia gtx 570 card using Nvidia Nhancer and NickN's advice @ Simforums everything is on par with the ATI card visually, and with a substantial(2X) increase in frame rates. Having owned both systems, both built for FSX, there is no comparison! Intel and Nvidia...HANDS DOWN! Please understand, this system works best with FSX. Although, I wouldn't make this claim about this system regarding any other "Game" because I don't play anything other than FSX. Take it for what it's worth!

Thinking of Ditching AMD, ATI for INTEL and NVIDIA?
Winstonbaby replied to Winstonbaby's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcUpdate! Just to let you all know I have my new system up and running and it is AWSOME! I opted for the ASUS P8Z68 board to support SLI at a later date. Here is a quick summary of my old system vs. my new system... Phenom 1090t overclocked to 4 ghzATI Radeon HD 5750 GPUAsus MoBo1360 X 768 res.etc... Was running FSX with Orbx PNW and default Cessna 172 over Seattle with all the sliders maxed except water at 2X mid and tarrain mesh at 2m as per Orbx, Medium Traffic, low weather...Frame limiter to 30fps external The results were 12-15 fps over flying downtown Seattle at approx 2,000 ft agl. NOW, Intel i7 2600K overclocked to 4.5 ghzEVGA Nvidia GTX 570 superclockedAsus P8Z68 mobo1360 x 768 res.etc. Same scenery, FSX with Orbx PNW default Cessna 172, REX 2.0 moderate settings(could not run rex with ATI Card, too much shuttering) Maxed out sliders as before, medium traffic medium-high weather, Frame limiter to 30 FPS external The result is a solid 30 fps, no shuttering! THIS IS FABULOUS!!!!!!

Thinking of Ditching AMD, ATI for INTEL and NVIDIA?
Winstonbaby replied to Winstonbaby's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcI guess I should have asked folks to specify what the changes were and why because I guess I'm to stupid to actually compare 2 seperate lists and find the differences!

Thinking of Ditching AMD, ATI for INTEL and NVIDIA?
Winstonbaby replied to Winstonbaby's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcAs I said earlier, I didn't notice the motherboard change that Di suggested. At that point in the postings, there were more comments going back and forth about storage devices and the different configs. I'll try to call Cyberpower to see if I can change the board, but like I said earlier as well, i really don't think it will make that much of a difference. Thanks for the input.

Thinking of Ditching AMD, ATI for INTEL and NVIDIA?
Winstonbaby replied to Winstonbaby's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcSorry, I did not notice the mobo change. I really don't think it will be that big of a difference to be honest with you. The case I changed for a full tower just in case I need more room for more goodies later on. As for the HDD's, I went for what I thought would work best for my situation. And, I did say I wanted the i7 instead of the i5 processor. So, there was an Obvious resason for me to make the choices I made. Still, Thanks for the help! REALLY!

Thinking of Ditching AMD, ATI for INTEL and NVIDIA?
Winstonbaby replied to Winstonbaby's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcAh! makes sense now, Thanks NGX for taking the time to review the whole system! I like your suggestion about changing the case to save some money. I was going to do that as well. As for the second HDD, I will get the 750 GB. But, I think I'll still go with the i7 2600K (you know, it's a guy thing, bigger is always better!) I'll probably just go with a 1TB HDD as the primary to save some additional cash as I have a 1TB HHD right now and still have 800+ GB free. OK, I'm ordering it right now! Thank you for the great input everyone,(and entertainment, NGX and VirginAUS737! you guys fight like Brother and Sister, you two are Hilarious!), I mean it !

Thinking of Ditching AMD, ATI for INTEL and NVIDIA?
Winstonbaby replied to Winstonbaby's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcso let me ask this, Since it is obviously better to have FSX on a seperate drive than other programs and the operating system, can I just add a 500gb HDD to the system, using it for all my FSX "stuff" and still benifit from the seperation? I know its not ideal and I realize there will be a bottleneck because of the 7200rpm speed, but it IS only another $45 to add this HDD as opposed to a smaller primary HDD (less exspensive) and some other type of HD at $120+ more... ...Although, should I be concerned with the limited cache of 16mb of the offered 500gb SATA III? Oh, Man! I hate not knowing what to do! Yes it would be great to get everything perfect, but at some point I need to stick to my budget. If anyone is willing to look at my original post and go to the link of the system and customize it to whatever the general consences is, (and stay around $1300) I'm willing to go with that option too! Remember, this is primarily an FSX system. Thanks guys! (and gal)!

Thinking of Ditching AMD, ATI for INTEL and NVIDIA?
Winstonbaby replied to Winstonbaby's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcOh, I'm very aware of how exhausting it can be to run FSX. There have been days where I'll get up in the morning, sit down at the computer and spend the next 6 hours trying th figure out why I now have a missing scenery file or an aircraft with no guages or Crash to Desktop, etc. I firmly believe that FSX was created as some sick covert government test to find the limits of a persons' sanity!

Thinking of Ditching AMD, ATI for INTEL and NVIDIA?
Winstonbaby replied to Winstonbaby's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcSo, I'll look into upgrading to a better HDD with higher speeds and a comparable 2nd storage device for FSX. One interesting note, I was on newegg just to see how much I would save by building this system myself. And guess what?, while adding up the cost of every single component that this rig is spec'd out with, and by only adding the lowest cost of each offered, it adds up to exactly......$1279 funny!!!! That's the exact price of the system I'm looking at! BTW, The "Wise Man" i quoted a few posts back, obviously wasn't married! I guess I'm sleeping in the Motor Coach tonight!

Thinking of Ditching AMD, ATI for INTEL and NVIDIA?
Winstonbaby replied to Winstonbaby's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcYes, I forgot about the separate HDD for FSX, good point! I think I'm going to go ahead and get it...as soon as I figure out a way to tell the wife. Oh well, I wise man once said, "It's easier to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission!"

Thinking of Ditching AMD, ATI for INTEL and NVIDIA?
Winstonbaby replied to Winstonbaby's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcThat is sound advice! I did almost completely rebuild my system with components that I thought at the time would do the job, but what a hassle! A DOA MoBo, 1 stick of bad ram, Bios problems, etc., plus the fact that I know just enough about computers that I'm sure I'll screw something up! Nah, I think I'll just pay the extra few hundred to have someone do it for me. Plus, if i add up all the components that I'll have to buy through NewEgg, I really wouldn't save enough for the piece of mind that "hopefully" someone who knows what they are doing actually put this rig together.
