  1. I just had what must be a stupid idea otherwise the teams at MS would have thought about it before. Let's give it a try anyway. What would stop MS from:A: Launching flight in spring online as planned and keeping it as a game with a closed app store for the gamers. This version would be locked to only launch the official payware addons from the closed MS app store.B: Leveraging the flight engine to launch flight sim 11 a little later as a boxed version at similar price as FSX with full world and open SDK. This version could run 3rd party scenery, planes, etc. That way MS would make twice as much money, once from the gamers and once for the hardcore simmers, keep everybody happy, sell the same engine twice in different ways without canibalising their own app store model for flight.Euh, surely I missed something? :Thinking:JC
  2. I won't get involved in the like or hate debate however competition is always good, however strong the competition may be. I don't hate X-plane however the complex UI and fairly basic graphics has always kept me away from it even though I've played many hours with XP9. I'm sure the team from Laminar Research have created a great simulation engine with XP 10 however they probably haven't invested enough time in art work which is what let's it down for the moment. So far I much prefer the look and feel of the screenshots published for MS Flight but then again that's just a personal opinion and many will prefer XP10.
  3. Indeed, you may be right. Let's hope we live to see :-)
  4. To answer the original question: If the users of this forum are representative of the entire community, then somebody from the outside would probably answer yes.
  5. I love this thread. So far nothing has been announed but some of us seem to know for certain that its a closed sim with no SDK, Hawaii only, it will come to a crawl with addons (à la PMDG) and MS are going to milk the cow again. You may be right, maybe not but I'm sure we'll have a good laugh when looking back at this thread after the product is released. The only fact we have for the moment is that the screenshots in Hawaii look good (OK, the scenery in the distance is still a little blurry).Good job they didn't decide a global tax on speculation at the last G20 :-)
  6. Maybe I've missed an episode or a post or something but who ever said that Flight will be just for Hawaii? I didn't see any declaration on the official site stating that was the case. Also, 10GB minimum install is sufficient for the entire world as in FSX with basic terrain, autogen and airports. Clearly not for the level of detail we're seeing on the screenshots. Is this Hawaii only just speculation derived from the fact that so far we've only seen screenshots from Hawaii or have I really missed something more substantial?
  7. Yep, drove me crazy yesterday trying to figure out what was wrong. Hope the advice proves useful.
  8. Had same issue and got fixed using the same solution as Bondi above. Jean-Christophe M
  9. I was having the same issue yesterday after reinstalling my system with WIn7 x64. The 737NGX cockpit would appear and then immediately CTD. The problem was that when I installed the NGX I interrupted the DX9 installation/download process thinking that as I had Win7 it wasn't necessary. Mistake. I uninstalled the NGX and reinstalled letting the DX9 download and install all its components and then all was fine! Jean-Christophe M
