Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
I think you were lucky that the joystick reconnected. Unfortunately it didn't help me when I lost mine. Also my solution I mentioned before isn't working. Let's take a look at FSUIPC..............

New Joystick / Hotas suggestions
Hi, Do you know if xpadder solves the joystickproblems in FSX with a WIN8.1 OS? WIN8/8.1 is causing a lot of trouble by suddenly disabling joysticks in FSX. At this moment only FSUIPC4 is giving a solution to this problem (workarround). First you have to delete the joystick and all the button assignments in FSX. Then you have to re-assign all joystick/throttle movements and buttons in FSUIPC4 to make it work again. I was wondering if xpadder can do the same or even better?

Joystick disappears when switching between monitors
X-wing replied to X-wing's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcAdditional Information: The Thrustmaster is replaced by the mouse (Logitech wireless keyboard + mouse) in the FSX gamecontrollers page. What is causing this problem, is it because I use the mouse when switching between active windows and monitors?

Joystick disappears when switching between monitors
I'm using two monitors on my WIN8.1 system, one for flying FSX and another to study enroute charts and approach plates while flying. Everytime when I switch between these monitors (active windows) my Thrustmaster HOTAS X is disabled and removed from the gamecontrollers page in FSX (no joystick and throttle control) but it is still visible in the Windows controllers page and is responding on inputs (settings and calibrate). What's going wrong?!

Autopilot descent behaviour
Thanks Kyle, IAS always was steady 240kts but maybe I've been a bit rough on the throttle during the descent. I think I have to read the manual once more. I just practised method 2 as AP descent mode and this one is very smooth. I don't know why I've never tried it before. Problem solved!

Autopilot descent behaviour
I'm using method 1 as described op page 86 in the Pilot's Tutorial. During the descent the rate of descent and airspeed is changing constantly. It is causing an uncontrollable up and down movement of the aircraft and the only way to stop this, is disconnecting the autopilot and fly the aircraft manually. Cruising level: FL160 Target level: 2000ft IAS: 240kts Initial rate of descent approx: 1000ft/min The problem starts (slowly) below FL100 and is getting severe below FL60 Is there a way to avoid this, did I overlook something in the manual?

JS4100 Cold & Dark
I've a cold an dark J41 just by simply shutting down the aircraft (all systems off) and saving it as default flight in FSX. In FSX under General uncheck "show opening screen" and restart FSX. FSX is now starting and opening the VC of the J41 with all the switches off (no additional programs needed).

Cold and Dark start up, am I doing something wrong?
I disagree, in the example I mentioned above (start FSX without opening screen and a C&D JS41 selected as default aircraft) the startlocks are saved. I can start-up the aircraft and after startup I have to disengage the startlocks by pulling the trust levers back.

Cold and Dark start up, am I doing something wrong?
I know, the engines were shutdown and startlocks engaged. Then the aircraft was saved in this condition as default aircraft. But after loading the JS41 again in the opening screen by clicking "fly now" both engines are starting up at the very moment the virtual cockpit screen opens. When I uncheck the box "show opening screen" (settings - general) then FSX is loading the JS41 without the opening screen and both engines are off and battery power is on.

FSX opening screen and PMDG JS41
Ok, but what about the "show opening screen" setting in Settings - General page? box checked = engines are starting up box unchecked = engines are off and battery power is on Can somebody explain this?

FSX opening screen and PMDG JS41
Since a week ago something strange is happening when starting FSX with the PMDG JS41 selected as default flight. The aircraft was saved with all systems off (cold and dark) but when I start FSX and select "fly now" in the opening screen, the virtual cockpit of the JS41 is opening and both engines are starting up (?!). How is this possible while the aircraft was saved as cold and dark1. I more or less solved this problem by unchecking the box "show opening screen" in the "Settings - General" page and now the aircraft is starting again in a sort of cold and dark situation (engines off). This problem occured suddenly about a week ago and before that I always was able to start a cold and dark JS41 in the FSX opening screen. Does somebody know what went wrong? 1) I know that the JS41 can't be saved as a completely cold and dark aircraft. The best you can get is "engines off" and "electrical power on".

Cold and Dark start up, am I doing something wrong?
Found out that FSX is causing this problem. Remove selection "Show opening screen" in Settings - General. When starting FSX the next time you go right to the pilot seat of the JS41 (where you left and saved it).

Cold and Dark start up, am I doing something wrong?
Finally, I managed to save a Cold and Dark JS41. I deleted the fsx.cfg file, started FSX and entered the JS41 again from scratch. Pfffffh :Cuppa:
