  1. I was fortunate enough to meet him a couple of months ago, and asked him to sign my copy of his autobiography, which he did very graciously. He was so polite and humble - he asked my name and held his hand out and said 'Well nice to meet you Paul' as he shook my hand, and I was thinking it's the other way round more like!!

  2. You're right (I think). I can get it working on the internal VC views but only when the flare is within a window. When you shift the view and the flare would be 'inside' the cockpit (ie on top of internal cockpit textures) it doesn't show - it's almost like the VC internals are 'masking' the flare.

  3. Thanks... However, the joystick option is a non-relevant.. I do not have room for one.. I fly everything else with KB and the Justflight A319 with a KB also with no issues....

    Jim

How about a cheap joypad? I bought a PS2-style one for playing ETS2 - that wouldn't take any desk space? I have both the JF A320 and AS one and believe me they do not compare!

  4. I'll try to get this working in P3D3.1 tonight, am pretty sure I will be able to.

It's highly likely that those of you that can't get it working in internal VC views are not editing/adding to the correct cameras.cfg, as the location of this file has changed (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm at work at the moment, so no access to my simming PC) to c:\Program Data etc. I believe it explains where to troubleshoot in either i) the original download in the AVSIM library or ii) comments on the thread that Gabriel Teles originally started in either the Screenshot forum or the FSX forum.

  5. Mesh: FreeMeshX (You can find the downloads on this forum, under their own section)

Textures: Aime Leclercq (You can find the downloads on his Facebook page)

These 2 in abundance! Aime's textures are ground textures a la FTX Global/GEX, and are very good.

Re the sky textures, I use Gabriel Teles's ones that are in the AVSIM library - they're for FSX but they work just fine in P3D.

  6. Agreed. The speculation and rumors didn't interest me at all but now some more official news comes available, I am getting seriously interested. But seeing is believing because a lot of what Steve from Dovetail is saying is 'we plan', 'we hope' and 'we want'.

Jeroen, once again you speak far too much sense! ;)

From what I recall, 64-bit is on LM's radar. And that's all it needs to be, no reaction is needed from LM as the core market is totally different. My personal view is that a small company like DTG will never be able to compete with a multi-billion dollar defense contractor, even if only a fraction of its resources are used on P3D. Oh and they've had the code for *considerably* longer.

  7. Thanks guys!

It's Just Peachy with edited shadows (80/80/80).

You can install it using EMT, yes. After that just burn in the preset and run P3D, not with shade.exe.

    :good:

I can't recall if you actually need to run the EMT when installing Shade. You certainly need to run the EMT if you are doing a set-and-forget/burn in of the Shade values though.

  8. I still use good old Shade with P3D3.1 - it gives you the opportunity for darker shadows but without saturating everything with massively high contrast that you may end up with trying to get the shadows you want in HDR. I use both Shade and HDR in P3D.

You can get Shade working by either using the EMT, or faking the registry entry for FSX (to point at your P3D3 folder).

REX Essential works fine for textures, you may well need the P3D extra licence though (but it's cheap).

ASN is good but clouds in general can bring my system to its knees (I run with maximum cloud shadows though).

  9. Ok, I gave it a try. I have to say I was already happy with my performance after changing a few settings a while ago and the affinity mask settings didn't seem to make any difference on my PC. But: 1. it didn't make things worse and 2. I suppose it also depends on the circumstances and I suppose these settings may help in the future when those circumstances occur so I might as well leave it as it is now (AM in the cfg and TrackIR + ASN set using PL). Don't know what improvements I had to expect too, I have to say...

"Smooth as butter" I think the saying goes   :P

  10. While I was at it I turned off the special effects (have no clue what they do anyway: I sure as hell never see fireworks anywhere so why keep it on?)

Well inspired by this thread (and the fact that Jeroen posts useful and level-headed stuff) I tried it and I think I have the answer! I need to double check tonight but I switched the special effects stuff to minimum and then flew EGKK-LSGG. Completely flummoxed when I arrived at Geneva (FSDreamTeam) to find that there were no airport buildings showing. It was only this morning when I was driving into work I realised that this was -post having turned off the special effects. I'll test tonight to confirm.

  11. Looks like everyone else has answered for me but to confirm; I have the Aerosoft Airbus and a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and the throttle works just fine - the throttle works like a conventional one for, I would say, about the first 80% of the lever movement and then it kind of 'snaps' into the CLB, FLX and TOGA detents above that.

I also have PFPX and that also works fine as others have said - one thing to note is that it doesn't specifically support the Aerosoft Airbus (which is the latest name) so you need to select Aerosoft Airbus X when exporting, and point the output folder to your Aerosoft Airbus one.

I have the 320/321 package and in hindsight I would have bought the 318/319 one as well had I known how much I would use it.
