Pilot2ATC using VR (in MSFS2020)
BernieGarrett replied to BernieGarrett's topic in Pilot2ATC Users Forum
Many thanks. Yes I did get it working with P3DV5 also, and separating the ATC from the sim processing CPU with an affinity mask is probably worth trying. Good idea. The mic issue with HMDs has been reported by others, and I know there are audio applications I could use to boost the volume a bit but am loathed to load yet another process into an already heavily loaded system. I have used a separate wireless mic as a work around i might try taking it up with HTC as it seems a hardware issue with a high-end HMD that should perform better. cheers Bernie -
Hi all, As a long-time user of Pilot2ATC I am now attempting to use it in a VR environment with MSFS2020. I suspect it may be too much of a load on the PC system with the sim, speech recognition, chatter, and VR all running concurrently as its not working to date. System is: Intel® Core™ i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz 32GB RAM 2 TB SSD Nvidia Geoforce RTX2080Ti Two key problems are: 1) Pilot2ATC does not recognize input from the Vive Cosmos Headset mic. Probably too poor quality? It is showing up as the Windows 10 mic input, but not particularly loud, and I can see no way to boost it. 2) After a short while Pilot2ATC just stops working with the sim and falls silent, I suspect due to memory or processor overload. So, has anyone got it working in VR, or have any tips on how to configure Pilot2ATC to work with a VR rig? Cheers and happy holidays all, Bernie

Installing Pilot2ATC to work with MSFS 2020
BernieGarrett replied to Dave-Pilot2ATC's topic in Pilot2ATC Users Forum
Many thanks Dave, Ran it again today and after deleting my MSFS2020 cache (suggested as a fix for CYLW by ORBX support) and it ran much better. On the PIGLU4 Arrival for the ILS 16Z approach, it is quite a steep descent initially, and this time I was asked to descend to 5100 after VIVEK (instead of before as previously). On the actual approach its actually after DATBO and the stepped descent is 6600, and then 5100 at WTMAN, then 4200 by TATVI so it worked out fine. https://cloudfront.foreflight.com/plates/2013/CYLW_PIGLU_FOUR_ARR_YDC_PIGLU4.PDF https://cloudfront.foreflight.com/plates/2013/RCAP_CYLW_ILS_Z_RWY_16.PDF Good to know it works (as Pilot2ATC is usually much better than VATSIM). Possibly orhers experiencing weird clearance or approaches to addon airports might benefit from deleting the cache before installing them. Next up is trying to get it to work with VR, but I fear that might be a load too much for the PC with the FS, Pilot2ATC, chatter and VR . The mic on my Vive headset does not work in P2ATC either, but I'll start another thread to discuss VR setups. Cheers Bernie P.S. takesix - That's weird, I always start P2ATC first and have never had a connection issue. -
Installing Pilot2ATC to work with MSFS 2020
BernieGarrett replied to Dave-Pilot2ATC's topic in Pilot2ATC Users Forum
Ok found one issue that might not be pilot2ATC related, so will have to test further. ORBX CYLW causes a CTD on my system, whenever used. Not sure if that would cause the erroneous altitude guidance from P2ATC on the leg to VIVEK when on the PIGLU4 arrival though? Bernie -
Installing Pilot2ATC to work with MSFS 2020
BernieGarrett replied to Dave-Pilot2ATC's topic in Pilot2ATC Users Forum
Hi, OK been playing around with Pilot2ATC and MSFS2020 for a couple of weeks, and there seem to be some significant issues still. Not sure if its P2ATC or FSUIPC7 or even MSFS2020 but lots of CTDs (about every 2nd flight), disparities between flight plans (am using Navigraph data in both) and in a recent approach to CYLW ILS16Z PIGLU arrival the controller ordered a descent to 5100 which flew me into a mountainside. Flight plans do seem to run OK (after a fashion) without P2ATC so, I am now thinking its likely an FSUIPC7 or P2ATC issue, so thinking of abandoning P2ATC and going back to VATSIM. Shame as its a great tool, but I seem to be spending 45% of my time problem-solving the sim, and 25% flying these days. I also have a high-end dedicated machine. Any ideas welcome Bernie -
Thanks for posting the install notes, I did not move simconnect.dll into the FSUIPC folder, which is probably why Pilot2ATC wasn't tracking (scratch that, just seen it is not needed anymore now),. On further testing it seems to be FSUIPC 7 with simconnect that causes the fame rate hit (Simconnect being the culprit - see https://forum.simflight.com/topic/90203-massive-fps-drop/ ). As soon as it is activated I go from 60 to about 25 fps. Hopefully that will get resolved and pilot2atc will work fine with it. :-0 Cheers Bernie

Well, installed the SDK and FSUIPC7 and got it connecting, and it got the location but wouldn't track the aircraft and the frame rate was seriously hit and I have a very high-end PC. Maybe someone can post clear instructions on how they got it working? As it is unless the frame rate isn't drastically hit, it isn't really a functional option in MSFS 2020 yet. Bernie

Prepar3D Addon Organizer updated to 1.51
BernieGarrett replied to Lorby_SI's topic in Lorby-SI Freeware
Makes sense! thanks for an essential tool. Now if only there was a fix for the 90% of prior add-on scenery that no longer work after the P3D v5 hotfix... I see multiple reports of this,so its not just the occasional add-on (e.g. http://www.uk2000scenery.org/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=b9c37c9351d48b9b3a43b13a32d38284&topic=9990.0) and not sure what the issue is, incompatible texture formats, PBR or GUID? Cheers Bernie -
Hi folks, More interesting developments with the new P3D V5 Hotfix 5.0.24.34874. After installing it today the majority of add-on airports (which worked fine before the hotfix) now no-longer work at all with it. Anyone else had issues? I suspect either a texture format incompatibility issue, as the ORBX official V5 sceneries work fine, but I am not sure. I am having to go through one-by-one and test airports to see if they will load. For example, the old UK2000 Vol 1 and 2 worked fine in P3D before the hotfix but now not. Some custom ADE builds dont work either so a shame I can no longer use them it seems. 😞 Basically, if I add one that it doesn't like P3D crashes at the first load screen, where it reads in the scenery (the scenery update bar doesn't even appear). Prepar3D Addon Organizer updated to 1.51
BernieGarrett replied to Lorby_SI's topic in Lorby-SI Freeware
Hi Oliver, Great tool and essential for P3D v5 but I have had some issues with it (currently running 1.53). Not sure if these are bugs or my misunderstanding the use! I currently have P3D v4.5 and 5 separately installed and a bunch of ORBX scenery. All ORBX are are XML. If items are multi-selected weird things can happen if scenery items are disabled via groups. They don't seem to move around when you try and change order, seem to move randomly or jump back to where they were originally after save. Alo, I did have an issue with the scenery paths not changing if you swapped between P3D v4.1+ and V5 (i.e. they stayed incorrect as the original version (until the app was restarted) but have not replicated that in this update. Anyhow, couldn't see this discussed in the document so thought I'd pass it on! Thanks for the great tool. Cheers Bernie -
SR22 HSI/CDI Fix with GTN750 panel
BernieGarrett replied to JusticeAA's topic in SR22 GTSX Turbo HD Series for FSX | P3D
Brilliant I was looking for this solution! Thanks Bernie -
Hi folks, I am a real life Cirrus pilot, and just bought this amazing reproduction of the GTN750. I use want to use it for IFR procedure refreshers on my PC and am trying to get it to work as a pop-up panel with the Carenado Cirrus SR22 which I also own. The gauge works fine as a pop-up panel in P3D v4, and will drive the autopilot, but I can't get it to synch up to the G1000 PFD display of the CDI. When I connect the GPS with a route and set the G1000 PFD display to GPS (magenta), the CDI stays firmly pegged on 360 degrees and does not function. I am trying to figure out what the setting should be to make it drive the GPS CDI , if that is possible. Any advice much appreciated. Cheers Bernie

CaptainSim basically has an appalling after sales service and it seems they don't beta test thoroughly.I am another very dissatisfied CaptainSim customer.I got the 707 as a gift this Christmas (2011 - bought by my wife) and found lots of bugs in it. Specifically the Autopilot functionality (knobs don't turn or work but click) and system crashes after 20 mins use, amongst others. That would be understandable if you could get any support, but there is the rub:1) As a registered user you have to fill in an extensive ticket form to post a support ticket (no e-mail) which then does not process, and warns you that you must fill in the red section (where no red section is highlighted). So it is nigh impossible to post a support ticket. I suspect if you spent an hour or two so refilling the form you might be able to figure out the trick, but it just isn't worth it as if that is how they try and stave off help requests you can imagine what the responses will be.2) The user Forum has been designed in a similar way. You have to enter an anti spam graphic numeric key that is impossible to read. I tried 10 times but even when I thought I had it 100% right it was rejected.Basically, you can see this is a cheap and shameful ploy to avoid any type of customer support. My guess is they are not interested in development/support anymore but just selling off stock in a bid to cash out before they close up shop. Consequently I will never buy another CaptainSim product and will be posting my experiences far and wide. A shame as their graphics and design had a lot of promise, and from what I read were once a stand-up company, but it seems now they are really just another rip-off merchant out to cash in.Buyer BewareBernie

Autopilot issues
BernieGarrett replied to Bert Pieke's topic in C337 Skymaster HD SERIES for FSX | P3D
I found just setting up a a flight plan in the 530 and activating it and then just selecting NAV works very well. It followed an ILS procedure perfectly. As I am establsshed on the localizer i switch from GPS to VLOC on the 530 (the real one does that automatically I believe). When using an ILS with a procedure turn i found you just have to hit enter on the 530 to advance the leg when on the ILS and the turn is complete (the current leg is shown in magenta). There is a manual to the FSD which runs through autopilot function here. Not quite the same but might help with some things! I plan to test out if the AP switches work the same today.http://www.fsd-inter...anual/index.htmCheersBernie -
