  1. I found it very odd that we went from the horrible multiplayer system of FSX's defualt, to this. FSX at least could be run in a dedicated mode, host more players than this, be connected by ip, be selected on a list, and be passworded. I admit i expected better than what we have at the moment here (and notice i said the previous one was horrible and had many unmentioned issues as well), I really hope they change this, but im sure is going to take a bit of an overhaul. The name of Led Zeppelin was chosen after a newspaper article said the "The New Yardbirds" would "go down like a lead zeppelin". It is merely a legend that Keith Moon and John Entwistle, members of The Who, had said that. Either way, "lead zeppelin", from the phrasing of the article, was changed to Led Zeppelin because the members were afraid that Americans would pronounce "lead" as "leed". I had remember this from the biography too, but just thought id mention it. hehe
  2. not sure i understand your comment. TRACK IR is a webcam with the filter removed, and is more expensive, and requires led's strapped to your head. A lot of people already own normal webcams. In my case, i had one for skype.
  3. Since i saw many people posting about Track IR... Track-IR is the stone ages. Strapping lights to your head. lol. Thought id pass this on. http://facetracknoir...ome/default.htm It uses pure motion sensing of a web camera and nothing more. And its open source. I used it with a PSEye, got nice fps, and even sees well in a very dark room.
  4. I started with flight simulator version 1 with the most recent sims being FSX and X-plane. Im not one to envy the large cockpits ive seen some people design and create, but im sure they are fun too. I just go with what i think works best for me. At one point with FSX i bought the saitech rudder pedals, and Track - IR. Cant beelive im seeing so many track IR posts here. Since then i found FacetrackNoIR to be better than TrackIR as it doesnt use any infred red lights at all, just pure motion sensing. Even so i dont even use that anymore either. A hat switch works fine, requires no effort. After much use i sold my rudder pedals about a year later, after deciding i just prefer using two joysticks. This has been pretty much my defacto setup through-out most my simming history. One stick (a microsoft joystick in this case) I use just for rudder left right (left hand), and only edit the up and down for throttle while in a heli, otherwise i just use slider throttle. Seems a few people have posted the frustration of the twist rudder on the Pro. This illiminates that. The second stick is all the rest of the controls and i use the Logitech Pro 3d (right hand). I actually despise using rudder on the same stick as the other controls as it isnt smooth enough in my opinion when mixed in tandem with the other axis's being used so the twist on the Logitech is disabled. I have a throttle quandrant but dont have it where im at currently. The slides on the two joysticks work fine for that anyways. Other than mapped buttons on the sticks, the rest is all keyboard. The mouse for Flight seems to work very smooth for simple handling. For doing any sort of aerobatics I firmly beleive a stick is required if you are serious at all or dont want the table beating stress of trying to get the acheivements with the mouse. Keyboard rudder is not fun. lol. Having multimonitor setup for FSX also to me is mandatory (at least 2). Flight not so much as of yet since we have no way of pulling up/dragging all the different displays/guages much less have a working garmin. For FSX I use one for my main view, the second for guages and gps. I used a second computer entirely for running a connected network of FSCommander. My main monitor was 40 inches. Second one was 22. Second computer used another 22. Using one monitor for Flight in windowed mode with Gmap on my taskbar, and http://vfrmap.com/ on Firefox for when i need information.
  5. i have gmap, and bought the navaid addon. for charts i use this. http://vfrmap.com/
  6. I have not only encountered un-lovely text chat comments, but many times now where ive been dive bombed and intentionally crashed into either in the air on on runways by wonderful Live players. Id prefer a dedicated passworded server enviroment.
  7. Yea im sure this would have been great to have recorded. I swear to you this really happened... lol OK so im looking for an aerocache.. its the Hinalele Falls one. I locate it. Being its in a spot i cant get to without a helicopter, I will have to go on foot. I circle around in the cub really slow, flaps out low rpm, trying to find the closest place i can where there isnt any trees to try to make a short landing. I find a narrow place between some trees against a hill where i almost plop it right down to a stop. I hit shift-x to set the parking brake the instant the plane comes to a halt, but im on the marvoullous little incline that had helped stop my plane suddenly. I dont notice any parkign brake. The plane starts sliding backwards. I hit B and gun the engines. I dont want this thing to crash me back into the trees down the hill. Well.. this is when i get the bright idea to jump out of the plane pressing E.... I somehow thought this would just shut the plane down and bring it to a halt. Nope. Well.. as i stand there watching.. the Cub chugs up the hill... and then takes off... lol. It not only clears the trees, but then i watch it continue to gain altitude and disapeer slowly into the distance. It even curves off to the right to make sure i get a long view of it for a couple minutes as it disapeers into the blue. To make it even more fun i forgot the direction of the cache, and go in the wrong direction a few times till i finally narrow down where it was quite some time later.. all the while muttering to myself that i cant beleive i lost my plane. I do find it after a lot of hoofing (the cache not the plane). Thank god for that run mode.. But still wonder where that pesky cub went to. Good thing i can exit to menu after finding that cache. That would have been a hell of a walk back to town.
  8. well i finally got the full screen version of gmap working now with this new windowed tutorial thing. only problem im having is the ms-F11 key stretches the screen a little more and my mouse click is pretty off the mark whereever i try to click things. Doable for large menu selections but more tedious for cockpit selections while flying. just wish i could run 'real' full screen, as i get better framerates than windowed mode. ah well.
  9. i just got gmap and got the nav data package. maybe that will help. having to look at everyone of them individually vs glancing at a screen though... lol.
  10. this will hose folks who like to map stuff to devices so they arent using a mouse to click on things. it use to also have the added bonus of controlling things in a plane that had no vc, or bad vc. but then im missing at least having a 2d dash on those versus having nothing at all. sorry i went back and edited what i had said and added more too. =/ im to slow. lol.
  11. Well i was being sarcastic about the magnetos. I know their isnt a command for it, i looked. I guess that was my point. We dont have keyboard commands or joystick mappable inputs for a lot of things now. Why are all these options gone? After looking at the keyboard commands i notice B says 'Aircraft on/off'. lol. I need a mappable key that turns on all the things that are missing and bops on the head whoevers idea this was. ;P i dont know if i should laugh or cry in response to that. ;P (dont fly anything with no vc) what about the future of being able to map any of that vc to anything? Lets say we dont map commands to confuse the little arcade xboxers who only want to crash into you while you land... why cant we still have them mappable but left blank for defualt?
  12. so flaps even in a cub should be reset when you hit B? not much i can do about planes that have no virtual cockpit to individually shut thigns off, unless you can still asign keys for everything still. *edit i just checked.. i dont see swtiches for anything pretty much under airplane controls. lights is only l, their is no direct settings for strobes or electircal system/battery, etc.. but wont work after hitting B. their is no ignition switch and whatnot.. only settings for flaps (which dont work after B), etc. ok so what is the keyboard command for magnetos? =P
  13. Im the real mccoy when it comes to color blindnesss. im told its as bad as it gets. my brother has it too. i have to look at stop lights and look at the placement of color, check what other cars are doing, because the red does look like the green. this is also why i cant have a commercial pilots license in the usa. lol. but you can in australia. =D when getting my license and they check my eyes with a test i always hear 'wow... you really ARE color blind arent you. lol.. never see anyone this bad usually' yea. i had to actually ask my grandmother who was near by what airports were blue and what ones were magenta to find me a clandestine mission. they really look the same for me.
  14. Ok, so i was reading the clandestine missions are at the 'magenta' airports? They all look blue to me. lol =( Shame they arent in a better shade of color.
  15. wierd. i havent seen anything like that. i have noticed lag spikes when people join and exit the game, but thats somethign else entirely.
