  1. I'm looking for a professional quality repaint of the PMDG 777F to be made for my fictional airline. I'm willing to pay for your time and effort or donate to a charity of your choice if you are not comfortable receiving payment. Without meaning to sound rude, I am only looking for someone who can create really top class work hence me being prepared to pay someone Thanks
  2. Thanks Molleh, that's very useful! Funnily enough I have noticed it a lot more since I started flying the 777!
  3. Thanks for that. When I come up against this type of approach in future I will just enter heading select mode after the DTW then "self vector" as you suggest. What do you do about managing your descent in this way? Would you enter VS mode after PEKLO with the aim of hitting XULTA at the G/S intercept altitude? I'm used to just staying in VNAV until the G/S comes alive at which point I hit APPR and the aircraft essentially guides itself down. I then disengage at around 1000ft to hand fly down to the runway.
  4. The coffee is never crappy on my airline
  5. Thanks Mike, I'll check that out for sure! Sounds good! What I like about having devised my own fictitious airline is that I get to play many roles! I design the entire route network (based purely on what I want to do) and fly the aircraft, and I even make the coffee that I drink while flying
  6. Hi Guys I'm trying to learn some more advanced flight operations, and am pretty used to programming a route into the FMC and using SIDs / STARs etc. However I've just seen something for the first time. I'm mid flight and planning my approach into Montreal 06L, and I have programmed in my desired runway and STAR Here you can see the STAR (CARTER1) Now, after PEKLO there is no "link" to the next waypoint of XULTA, and the chart says that you would expect vectors to final approach. So, in the FMC I see this: The approach looks like this on the plan: So, in real life, once you pass PEKLO, you would continue on that heading until ATC give you "turn by turn" guidance onto the final approach and LOC/GS capture, yes? How do you deal with this in the sim environment? I'm used to leaving the aircraft in LNAV/VNAV until I capture the ILS, then I enter LOC to line up with the runway, then enter APPR as I capture the G/S. In this situation, do I pass PEKLO and then continue on that heading for a while, then enter HDG mode to put me on an intercept path with XULTA? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question! Thanks Martin
  7. No, I don't mean a VA in the convential sense of the term (i.e. a community of simmers signed up to an "airline") but I mean actually created a fictitious airline just for your own pleasure? Allow me to explain.... I don't like flying unrealistic equipment/airline/route combinations, so for example I wouldn't enjoy flying a Ryanair B737 from Bristol to Paris CDG because I know they don't run that route in real life. Which brings me on to the "problem"... I have just purchased the PMDG 777 and I must say I absolutely ADORE it. So much so that I can't imagine me jumping back to the NGX for quite a while. But this presents me with a problem, as I wouldn't feel "right" operating flights across the USA (for example) using a United/Delta 777 as they wouldn't use that equipment in the real world. So I came up with a plan.... I've "created" (read : dreamt up!) a fictitious airline, and charted out their route network based on my own personal preferences of the addon airports that I enjoy flying in and out of. This fictitious airline is a cargo-only operator which just so happen to have taken delivery of two new B777F (one to be based in Europe and one in the US) - how convenient  I have chosen my 5 favourite airports in the US and my 5 favourite in Europe as my "bases", and created a route network with every flight operating either in or out of one of these 10 "hubs", connecting to various other locations within Europe and the US which I have payware scenery for. It was actually really great fun coming up with this "business" and mapping out this, purely for my own pleasure. I'm hoping to learn to repaint aircraft soon so that I can create my own repaint for the 777 to use to make my flights more authentic, at the moment I'm just using the PMDG house livery. Of course this business model would crash and burn in the real world, but that's just part of the fun! Because I have devised this airline and it's routes/equipment are "real" (to me!) it feels like I'm operating authentic routes. In reality there are very few 777 routes between the airports I wish to fly between, so this solves the "problem"!
  8. I have a problem with Ezdok whereby I set up a custom camera, assign it to a joystick button, and then that view changes slightly during the flight. For example, I have a view set up which is just a top down view of the FMC in the virtual cockpit. Before the flight I entered this view by clicking my joystick button, then programmed my flight. I'm now mid-flight and have gone to look at the FMC again so have pressed my joystick button, and the view has shifted. Now, instead of the FMC being centred in my view, it's 2 inches to the left and a bit higher, meaning half of the FMC is now "out of shot". Has anyone else had this? I can't see that there's an official EZDok support forum unless I've missed it? Thanks Martin
  9. I was starting to think I was the only one!! Yes it certainly seems to be a divisive topic with no one "best" answer, as with a lot of things it seems that what is best for one is not always best for the other. I haven't actually tried locking my frames in FSX below the "golden" 30 number, I would be perfecly happy with 24 all round! I may experiment with locking lower.
  10. Yea that's what I mean. If I can get 20 FPS when set to unlimited on approach into a busy airport in a thunderstorm in the NGX I would expect to get the same 20 FPS if I have it locked to 30, but I get below 15. So we're talking about a 25% reduction which seems bizarre to me. I thought the whole point of limiting was that it didn't take it any HIGHER than necessary in order to save resources.
  11. Thanks Alpha Floor that's great!
  12. That's interesting, I never even considered an external limiter. I tried at 30 and 40 in the sim and got low FPS on both occasions but unlimited gave me a much smoother approach. I will experiment with limiting through NI and seeing if that's more effective. Thanks
  13. Hey Guys I know, I know, the 777 is not just an NGX on steroids, but please hear me out. I'm about to buy the 777 and have been looking forward to getting it for some time so am very excited! However for the next few months I'm not going to have the time to study manuals and learn everything there is to know about her. I'm lucky if I find just a few hours a week to actually fly. I'm a pretty basic simmer. When I fly the NGX I normally start the aircraft in a warm cockpit, and I know how to program the FMC and choose a SID and have the FMC essentially fly my flight plan, then I will wait to come into ATIS range then select the approach and STAR based on that. I then disengage at around 1,000 AGL and hand fly down to the runway. What I want to know is will I be able to do these things reasonably instinctively having been flying the NGX for quite a long time? I'm assuming the basic operation of the FMC and autopilot are fairly convertible skills from the NGX to the 777? Over time of course I want to learn everything including full start up procedure, failures, the more complex aspects of auto flight etc, but for now I just want to be able to get from point A to point B via the FMC the same way I do in the NGX. Many thanks guys
  14. In tweaking my sim I've found that I get much better FPS in and around busy addon airports in the NGX/Aerosoft A320 when I run unlimited vs locking at 30. I know this goes against the grain of the common consensus as to what is 'right' so just wondered whether there are any issues with running at unlimited that I need to be aware of? To test this I have a test flight where I'm flying into Aerosoft PANC (on top of ORBX Alaska) in the NGX in a thunderstorm. With locked at 30 I get 11-15FPS on short final, with unlimited I get 17-21, which makes quite a noticeable difference in terms of smoothness.
  15. I was just browsing flight aware and was surprised to see some flights in the US with altitudes of as low as 13,000 ft. For example SWA824 - KMDW to KTPA - 2hr flight but only 13,000 Then SWA1255 - KDFW to KDEN - 2hr flight but 39,000 Just curious as to what factors determine such a big difference?
  16. Thanks all, I have set TML to 1024 and LOD_RADIUS to 4.5 and also unlocked frame rate, and have found that to be a big improvement. I just re-did the PANC approach and got 18-20FPS instead of the 10-12 before, so that's a big improvement. I guess I will have to accept that I need to dial things down a little! I will miss the hi-res clouds though!
  17. OK just did another flight, this time into Aerosoft PANC and again, struggling to get over about 12 FPS on finals, this can't be normal surely?
  18. Hi Guys I've recently done a total reinstall of FSX owing to a hardware change and have just about got everything set up how I think it should be. I've just done my first flight - UK2000 EGGD to Aerosoft LFPO and was amazed at how bad my FPS was once I got to LFPO. I got around 8-11 FPS from about 10 miles out of the airport which wasn't enough for a smooth approach. Bear in mind this was with ZERO AI traffic (yet to install UT2) and only a light sprinkling of cloud. I can only imagine how bad it would be if I had a lot of traffic and a thunderstorm! I don't have the latest super hardware but I would have thought my hardware would be more than sufficient to at least get kind of 15-18 FPS which I consider acceptable. Single figure FPS is not fun!! It makes me wonder whether I'm missing something in my set up. I have tried to tweak as sparingly as possible for now as I used to get into the habit of chucking a load of tweaks into my fsx.cfg looking for the perfect set up, and this time I'm taking it slow! My tweaks so far are - Running in DX10 mode with the fixer (4X AA) - HIGMEMFIX=1 - TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=2048 - Frames limited to 30 inside FSX - LOD RADIUS = 5.5 Anything look wildly out?
  19. I'm afraid you've lost me Paul! I simply run LINDA before I start FSX and it has a preset shortcut which hides the top title bar and simulates a full screen mode even though you're still in windowed. Nothing fancy going on here!
  20. Indeed! I use FSX in Windowed mode on one monitor, using LINDA to replicate fullscreen mode. On the other, I have Navigraph charts, Flight planning software, internet browser, active sky etc etc!
  21. Paul - simply running D3D Overrider before starting FSX seems to have solved the problem! Many thanks!
  22. Hi Paul Yes I do, is this something I shouldn't have under DX10? Many thanks
  23. So if you were flying from an airport within PNW to an airport in the US that was not covered by PNW, you would select North America, but still see "Global" textures when you leave the area?
  24. Hey Adi I've just gone through a big hardware change and as such have re-installed everything, and set up for DX10 then used your recommended NI profile and SweetFX settings, and my sim looks great, so a big thanks to you. However I do have one nagging issue, which is like a kind of tearing of the screen. Really hard to describe but it's like you get horizontal bands every now and again across the screen that cause an unpleasant visual effect. Do you know what causes this? I have tried adding the 1/2 refresh rate but no luck with or without it. Thanks!
