Building new PC for MSFS 2024
captflyby replied to rampantfox83's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcI'm running msfs 2020 in VR which means I'm displaying 2x 55" displays whether I use them or not, in addition to my 4k x 2 VR headset. I have a high end system, but only 64 GIG, and a 4090. What I noticed was that my CPU, an i7 I believe, was not even hitting 50% when IN VR, and my ram slightly over 30% when running in VR also. What KILLED my system was the lack of GPU overhead even with the 4090 card. about 90-95% on the 3D and about that on NON shared memory. So the bottle neck for me is the video card. can't have enough vram. Only solution is to turn down rendering in MSFS 2020 to about 80%. Then the VR "slide show" stops and things smooth out. Would be nice to have a 9090, but that is only in my dreams. My son tells me there IS a card with about 96 vram, if you have the $8,000 to shell out for a video card.

FMS Knob problem
OK, I answered my own question. Quite by accident I discovered the benefits of the mouse middle wheel. Place mouse over desired button, scroll mouse wheel one way or the other, problem solved. Hope this saves others time hunting. This is an excellent flying aircraft.

FMS Knob problem
Win 10, P3D 3.3, Carenado Phenom 300, expansion pack My mouse/keyboard and fully powered and have no issues with any other software. I am having trouble with my FMS knob. Both the 3d cockpit version on the MFD and on the lower console FMS and the popup MFD version. I move the mouse over the knob and it only wants to turn on the left side of the knob. The right side had no effect. Makes pretty much anything that the FMS controls - useless. I just watched a beautiful flight in the Phenom 300 from FS Mania, and his knobs worked effortlessly in FSX. Does not appear to be the case for me in P3D. Also just noticed that the VS knob on the FMC, selecting up or down, the FD goes down on both. Same situation with ALT select on FMC. Will only go down, not up on altitude. ___ I tried the same thing on the Baron with G1000 and it does not seem to have that issue. Both sides of the FMS worked on that model. So I guess my problem is isolated the the Phenom 300. Shame...I love this plane. I have also tried re-installing the aircraft. No good. Has anyone else had this issue, or am I a lone wolf?

CARENADO EMB505 PHENOM 300 HD Series PREPAR3D V3
I believe the fix is in on the Phenom 300. This was the default folder where it just installed the expansion pack: C:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\CarenadoNavigraph

How to fly this plane?
- X-PLANE SUPPORT FORUM FOR TBM 850 ?
Are there plans for an x-plane support forum for TBM 850. I realize that it is new, but there are BASIC bugs, no manufacturer phone or email. No manufacturer forum to speak of. There is no basic documentation that answers any of my questions below. I have emailed several times to the manufacturer and keep getting redirected by a response email that has nothing to do with my questions, but is simply a thin FAQ page. I need help from a human that knows how they put this thing together. There are no help files for what I need. Basic stuff. Help is appreciated. Thank you. Keep in mind, I am using X-Plane 10.50b ___________________ BTW my questions are simple: 1. You can create separate windows of the G1000 PDF and MFD by simply tapping on them, (No documentation, just discovered this by pressing buttons.) How to you undock them to move them to another monitor? 2. How do you remove the bezels around the PDF or MFD to fit them into the smaller monitors of my G1000 hardware? 3. How do you resize the PDF and MFD to fit my smaller G1000, external monitors? Undock, remove bezels, resize. Simple? I have G1000 hardware, complete with all bezel buttons & knobs. I just need to fit the screen info into my G1000 hardware monitors. Will worry about what works and what doesn't, once the basics are covered. I only purchased this because it flys higher & faster than my C182T G1000 flight sim. Wanted to be able to use the same G1000 flight sim hardware but fly higher and faster than my C182 does.Hope I didn't waste my money. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.- Best way I have found to - SPEED UP X-PLANE
You guys are hilarious. ________ I made my first feature length motion picture at the age of 18, and have been making films/commercials for many years. The study to which I refer, was conducted in association with the New York City College back in the 1970's, long before LCDs and the internet. They hooked up about 100 volunteers to electrodes that would measure their response to the visual cues that they were fed, via a theater movie screen. The purpose was to see at what point the human mind would cease to see "frame" images and with the aid of "persistance of vision" allow the mind to "see" as thought the film were one continuous action, i.e. real life, not the start/stop/black/start/stop/black of the 24 fps genre of the era. I do applogize for not havign the reference at my fingertips, as this was many years ago, but I have a book on the study somewhere in the clutter. If you happen to have access to an old 8mm movie projector, most of the more advanced ones could be dialed to set the selected fps. ex. 15 fps, 20 fps, 24 fps and 30 fps - were the most common. As a youngster, I noticed that if the Charlie Chaplin film I had checked out from the university library was played at 30 fps and not the intended 24 fps, the visual perception of that image was like watching video tape, not film. Using the same theory, the study advanced the fps until the basic threshhold of reality was fixed at approx. 60 fps. The reason film was never shot at that speed, (one or two actually were) was that the resulting film disk, for each reel, would have been in excess of 6 feet in diameter. Not practical. There is also a reason why the developers of the Oculus Rift have their units set for 90 fps. Not only is the threshold of reality met, but the blurred motion that you get in the theater when the camera is panned during a sequence (stuttering) is gone. Now to x-plane frame rate. The lower the frame rate, the more the "stuttering" effect of the visual cue. This just shoots reality all to ..................andromeda and back. No sense of really flying when the outside world looks like a slide show. A friend of mine develops flight sims for different militaries all over the world. He says, if the visual is good enough to make your hands swet, it's close enough. I cannot speak to those who really know the ins and outs of x-plane, all i can tell you is that with a simple adding of a solid state drive and raiding two of them, my fps went off the charts. I had previously brought my system to its knees trying to reach the coveted 60 fps threshold. Now I exceed it. If it happens that I later find that the SSD had nothing to do with my fps boost, then I will post it. But for now... based upon voluminous posts that I have read from others.... x-plane is not that favorable to incresed cores x-plane will not take advantage of multiple video cards and many have boosted their hardware to no avail. Doesn't seem like x-plane likes much at all. But it did seem to love my SSD upgrade. Happy simming.- Best way I have found to - SPEED UP X-PLANE
Thanks CoolP, It might very well be as you say, I am just grateful to have the speed I need from the sim at long last - however it got there. JSkorna, Sorry you feel that way. Don't BS me, BS the motion picture association of america and their clinical studies.- Best way I have found to - SPEED UP X-PLANE
I build a flight sim, very realistic, using x-plane and simavio2. (It can also run FSX and Mindstar) I've also read threads in many forums where people have spent a lot of money on computer hardware in hopes of speeding things up, only to be dissappointed with the results. i.e. x-plane won't take advantage of multiple video cards, and it does not put hits out of the ball park with multiple cores either. During some recent work with the Mindstar tech support guys, they made me realize that a large portion of the "slowness" involved in a sim was the swapping of scenery from hard drive to memory as you fly. i.e. The best way to speed up your computer hardware for improved sim performance, without upgrading it all, is to upgrade the hard drive. Here is what I did to speed up my sim: This might work or you, it might not - no guarantees. I replaced the "C" drive - i.e. the drive that was used by my computer to run x-plane, with a solid state drive. That took my random seek from 183 to 380. (about $70.00) I then bought a 2nd identical solid state drive and raided them together (raid 0). That took my random seek from 380 to 490 approximately. (It took my son's computer to over 1 gig random seek). Now I can set a reasonably complex scenery, using 3rd party mesh hd v3 and other addons, and still obtain a respecable 60-70 fps frame rate. On night flights, it hits 120+ fps. The threshhold of reality for frame rate is 60 fps. i.e. the rate at which the eye/mind begins to perceive the image as it does in real life. So for about $140.00 + tax, and a little sweat equity, my sim now performs about 2 1/2 times faster than it did before. Smooth motion, responsive, and loads much faster as well. Should have gone solid state a long time ago! Hope this helps.- Need advice on Mindstar G1000 OS and FSX versions
To all, I want to express my appreciation to Ed and Stasi and Keith at Mindstar Aviation. They provided me with technical assistance that required far more than could have been accomplished with email or forum. They spent much time with me not only working on Mindstar G1000, but FSX and other considerations as well. The tech support was very professional and generous. A big thank you to Mindstar! ______________________________________________________ Here are the results for all who might want to know. Operating system I chose Windows 7 - fresh install - with all patches and updates, based upon recommendation from Mindstar. Another BIG boost to my flight sim was their recommendation that I consider a solid state drive. I purchased a small one, 250GIG, and partitioned it for Win7 / Win8.1 dual boot. My flight sim now responds like I have upgraded all my hardware. It is truly amazing. A good portion of the flight sim experience depends upon swapping scenery information from the hard drive to memory, the new SSD hard drive performed beyond my expectations. Win7 partition is dedicated solely to the flight sim. No other software added unless directly needed to maintain FSX or Mindstar. Simulator I chose FSX original over FSX steam or Prepar3d. Steam is only the FSX original with distractions, and the Mindstar G1000 install liked the original much better. For those with a beefier budget, Prepar3d has some advancements, but I already had the FSX and FSX-SE. In a side by side comparison, as they were presented, I preferred the visuals that I saw with FSX over that of Prepar3d. G1000 software for my G1000 hardware I chose Mindstar G1000. In fairness, I did check out Flight1, but it was buggy, at least for my testing. To remove the bezels with Flight1, add a $249.00 price tag. The Mindstar guys showed me how to turn my bezels on and off myself, and for free. They showed me how to speed up the entire sim. They assisted me with my hardware to FSX interface questions. Mindstar G1000 the program Clear & readable graphics Refesh rate is good PDF & MFD can be removed from the main panel, undocked, and resized to fit your additional G1000 hardware monitors. Bezels on or off - your choice. After I complete the hardware to FSX hookup, I will be able to use the G1000 software more thoroughly and report further. Someday I hope to talk these guys into porting this program to x-plane. A flight sim that is supported, with a plugin that is supported. That is a great idea. Richard Jeffries- Need advice on Mindstar G1000 OS and FSX versions
Intesting...just needing a functioning product that I paid for... Here is the file info as promised... Mindstar G1000 purchased 05-15-2015 Transaction ID, Authorization # and Invoice # upon request. During the first setup I got the install error: "Unable to install C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\gauges gaugempi.bin" I also go the FSX-SE error: "MPI_G1000.gau not installed" Closing either error box, and the sim program closed immediately and would not run at all. I do not know if either of these files was related to the Mindstar program, but they did not come up untill the Mindstar program was installed. Removing the MPI_G1000.gau file from FSX-SE caused the FSX-SE program to work again. No other errors noted. So I went to my fastest workstation and installed Windows 7, and a fresh copy of FSX (the original, not SE). I then installed Mindstar. It worked. So I erased all of the first Mindstar install from my sim box, and created a new virgin partition, installed Win 7 (no net, no anti virus, etc), installed FSX original, and attempted to install Mindstar. The installer said I needed to contact support, as I had installed it more than 2x. Both of the previous installs have been removed. It is incredibly frustrating to have an entire weekend to work on this and be totally helpless to do anything about it. I would appreciate any help that could be offered. Thank you, Richard Jeffries- Need advice on Mindstar G1000 OS and FSX versions
Hi Ed, Thank you for your quick response. Regarding C182, I was simply referring to a Cessna 182. I am attempting to use the Mindstar G1000 T182T file which, if I am not mistaken (and I could be) is a model of the Cessna 182 or variant thereof. Using Win 8.1 and FSX-SE, when I place this file in its correct location, the system under FSX-SE brings up an error box stating that the file is missing and an immediate FSX-SE error box comes up over it. No options but to close the box, which automatically shuts everything down. (I will provide exact file name and loading location as soon as I am able to access my system. At work currently...)- Need advice on Mindstar G1000 OS and FSX versions
I was using x-plane with SimAvio until SimAvio announced no further updates or support. It was either use an outdated G1000 software program with no updates or an outdated flight sim. Not really happy with either choice. As Steam seemed to be breathing new life into FSX-SE, I decided to make the change. I am running Win 8.1 8 gig nVidia 760 w 3 gig I loaded FSX - SE I loaded the latest Mindstar G1000 I installed Mindstar G1000 and have been having multiple problems from start up error boxes to finally having dead PDF & MFD. The C182 has only the 2D cockpit, no 3D. I don't know if it is the OS, the FSX version, the Mindstar install, antivirus really kept snatching files from me until I shut it off... ______________ I decided there are too many variables and too many unknowns. So I really could use your help. I'm starting over. 1. What is the optimal OS that you recommend for running FSX and Mindstar G1000? 2. What version of FSX is recommended for the Mindstar G1000, FSX original or FSX-SE? My name is Richard Jeffries. Forgot to add that! - X-PLANE SUPPORT FORUM FOR TBM 850 ?
