  1. How would one increase the amount of glare and glow from the sun? It's the one thing that really bothers me in P3D that when I look directly at the sun which in reality would be nearly blinding, does very little to affect the view in simulator. I've been searching for a sun mod that produces that effect but to no avail.
  2. A340 I used to use flightaware to get my routes but I have found that PFPX is so good at generating an appropriate flight plan based on current weather that I no longer need to copy the real world route. As an exercise you should compare the route that PFPX generates with the real world US route and you will find that they are very close. Also remember that the real world filed flight plan is not a be all end all. Often times waypoints and sids and stars change due to weather. Also, I have not found any website that displays European filed flight plans and have searched for one quite a bit.
  3. I have to put my ballot in for the video card. I have an ancient i7-860 over clocked to 4.0 ghz but I just upgraded from a 670 to a 970 and I'm very very happy with my performance (v3 ftx g/v pmdg rex fsgrw gsx my traffic 6 etcetc). Not sure if performance gains are necessarily linear but as far as cpu goes ESP has always been about pure clock speed and going from 4.5ghz to 5ghz and is only about a 10% gain where as going from a 670 to a 970 is about a 40% gain in raw performance (using passmark chart). So even though ESP still loves CPU at its core I think the boys at LM have done a decent job taking some of the load off so I think you would ultimately feel more benefit from the new GPU. I myself am waiting until my CPU melts or until Intel starts releasing stock 6ghz chips.
  4. This is real simple Avsim has always had an ultra tight butthole for this stuff. If you have any questions about this there are other places on the internet that can answer them just don't ask about them here.
  5. As many of you have, I've built several computers and in my experience I always go with minimum requirements for motherboards and ram and I save the spending for CPU and GPU my first build I went overboard on the motherboard and you get very little added value from it subsequent builds I've always gone bare bones on the mobo and have never had a single issue. I like MSI's gui as well. Let me know what you think but $89.99 is pretty reasonable if yous ask me. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130888 Woops just noticed the above is an older chipset here's the equivalent with the 170 chipset $104 still not bad http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130885
  6. v3 will be for tablet only and it's free to play if you don't mind having ads with Kate Upton asking you to be her hero popping up every 20 seconds
  7. Yes it is because I went back in and upped the voltages a notch to avoid more BSODs so yes I'm at 4.1 stable now
  8. So let me preface this by saying this is my fault, I have my i7-860 overclocked to 4.1ghz air cooled and I completely disregard any care for the longevity of the proc as I've gotten 4 great years out of this CPU so I just pumped as much voltage (1.3875 vcore) into the thing as possible to keep it stable even though temps at load get over 90c after a couple hours of p95. anyhow... I was doing my first longhaul in P3D in the awesome Aerosoft A318 Elite from KBOS to LEPA (Palma de Mallorca) and 6 hours into the flight I got a BSOD from probably not bumping my PLL voltage enough. Everything in P3D was running perfectly beforehand but after the BSOD I had noticable stutters when restarting the same flight, the stutters occur every second or so and you can see everything drag for a moment then clear up for a second then drag again. Vsync is on and my limiter is set to 32, fiber frame time fraction is set to .07 Any thoughts on a solution besides a complete reinstall? Thanks guys..

Have you ever tried Kerbal Space Program? Pretty fun and addictive, but the physics are pretty accurate

Which is exactly what I said in my post!

Great point Rob! Although I've had a question bouncing around my head for a while: What's in it for LM? Huge company, and like you said they have their finger in many pies and I'm sure the revenues from sales of the sim support the actual costs of team, but what is their objective with having and supporting the sim? Is there a decent market out there for the sim in professional and multi user education/training applications (ie anything that is not us home simmers) don't get me wrong, I'm so happy to be along for the ride and to benefit from them doing this work. I just want to understand how it makes sense to them economically, my guess is that it's relatively low risk for them, from what you said about the size of their team my guess is that with a 1-2 million dollar operating budget than can fund the project, that means that if they sell 20-40 thousand copies of the academic license they're in the black, but $2 million is chump change for LM so I just like to know what their goal for the project is. If it's an outreach and engagement tool then it works, I'm now a LM "fan" where before I just saw them as a huge government contract company. This post is kind of oen ended but it's what bounces around my head from time to time.
  12. Good idea JaBoomBoom I will check my error log and see what the culprit was Unfortunately I have MyTraffic3D so I'm not sure if that solution will work but I do have FSX still installed so I'll give it a go, thanks for the tip! Here's what I'm getting out of the event log, it's all greek to me Faulting application name: Prepar3D.exe, version: 2.4.11570.0, time stamp: 0x542314d3 Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0xd46cef65 Faulting process id: 0x176c Faulting application start time: 0x01d02ba275b50ecd Faulting application path: F:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\Prepar3D.exe Faulting module path: unknown Report Id: d5047c77-979e-11e4-8e71-e0cb4ef9260d Fault bucket 144596503, type 19 Event Name: BEX Response: Not available Cab Id: 0 Problem signature: P1: Prepar3D.exe P2: 2.4.11570.0 P3: 542314d3 P4: unknown P5: 0.0.0.0 P6: 00000000 P7: d46cef65 P8: c0000005 P9: 00000008 P10: Attached files: C:\Users\Paul Cordogan\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\Prepar3D.cfg.txt C:\Users\Paul Cordogan\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\dxdiag.txt C:\Users\Paul Cordogan\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\scenery.cfg C:\Users\Paul Cordogan\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\fdr.dat C:\Users\Paul Cordogan\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\DLL.XML C:\Users\Paul Cordogan\AppData\Local\Temp\WER55CE.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml These files may be available here: C:\Users\Paul Cordogan\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\AppCrash_Prepar3D.exe_126e3d69f0b07a16ff11188b5259669c73a2_08827649 Analysis symbol: Rechecking for solution: 0 Report Id: d5047c77-979e-11e4-8e71-e0cb4ef9260d Report Status: 0
  13. So I've been testing after the switch to 2012 traffic and I still got a "Prepar3D.exe has Stopped working" I'm going to uninstall MyT and see if I keep getting the same thing, now I'm getting frustrated. Same behavior as described by OP, stutters then stops then just crashes
  14. The title says it all, I was flying from southern Illinois back up to Chicagoland today (with real world weather, what a ride! :p0502: ) And it looked like this: Obviously it's a bit of an immersion buster, any way to mitigate this or improve it? How does P3D determine where it starts and stops it's snow textures? Or is this something to do with FTX Global/Vector? I have FSGRW if that makes any difference.
