That's one of the best things about XP.  Once you've bought the initial program you never need buy anything else should you not wish to.  There is ten times the freeware available including mesh, textures for the entire world.

I highly doubt they have 10x the freeware.  P3D has most of the FSX freeware that was created over years and years.  Cattaneo's military aircraft, AI packages, military AI, mesh, airports, photoscenery.

While I like XP11, like Ray said it would take too much money to get to the amount of addons i have for P3D that transfered from FSX. Payware that covers almost every major airport around the globe.  Orbx regions and airports.

XP11 also is missing a lot of aircraft we have in P3D.  F-18s, F-14s, actually most military payware.   Not to mention the ton of commercial aircraft its still missing.

It will start to catch up and many are happy to switch.  If i was starting from scratch i'd probably pick XP11 but there are those of us who have a lot invested from the past.

  2. Might wanna try a few things.  Using AIFP (if you know what that program is) to scan and check if you have any FS9 traffic files in your sim.

There is another program by Lorby in his downloads called ThumbnailexporterX.  This program as well can scan your simobjects folder or other folders to find FS9 files.   Just tick the model and model type boxes.  Anything with a "=MDL8" is an FS9 file.

  3. Most common cause is an old FS9 traffic file creeping into the sim.  This will cause this. Hence AnkH questions.  Usually changes made since last use is the cause.  Did you add anything scenery, AI ships, copy/paste files, etc?

Also if your simobjects.cfg does not recognize the folder you have your AI in or the path is not correct.

The cycle is less than 2 years.

    Version 2.0: December 2013

    Version 3.0: September 2015

    Version 4.0: May 2017

I can imagine Version 5.0 to be released around the end of this year.

I know, you like Prepar3d, Erich, and I effectively like it, too, although we enjoy different styles of flying. However, I feel they better pack 5.0 with a number of essential new features and elimininate some annoyances to stay competitive for the dedicated simmer.

    Kind regards, Michael

Agreed.  Does seem like XP11 is starting to come on strong.  I think the Orbx True Earth updates are a great step.   A much better user interface would be nice.  Maybe to appease DTG they buy their UI code.

I have the NA pack for Prepar3d4 in FTX Central. It's under North America/OTHER.

    Kind regards, Michael

NA Airport pack (FTX enhanced airports)...yes.  AI models, traffic flightplans for NA...no.  They haven't done it for v4 yet.  i really hope they do.  Their GA models for the AU/NZ pack are a nice set.

  6. AIG has a plethora of models and flightplans for GA including an extensive Bizjet section.

I'm sure you can add AI separate of whatever software you bought.  Probably best to keep your GA AI models and flightplans in a separate location then the payware.   Then just point the sim to the folders.  Or add via .xml method.

Orbx FTX AU AI package you are referring to is for Australia only but the GA models and aircraft are very nice and can be used separately after downloading.   In fact HTAI payware Cessna package is included in this FTX package so its a nice to have.

  7. Well yes default airports will cause this.   Might want to look into downloading Robert Catherall's scenery files he has converted from Ray Smith's great FSX airports.  Those are mainly just the large airports.  Tons of other FSX airports will work in P3D but you may need to fix the taxiways in ADEX.

You can also fix this via ADEX.  This way you can assign gates for larger sizes and even adjust the gate size by wingspan.

But i think if there is no suitable gate parking for large aircraft then they default to like Cargo etc.  I could be wrong, but i know smaller aircraft default to other non gate parking spots automatically.

You can always look at the negative side, but what about the thousands of airports that do have ADS-B coverage?  Heathrow, San Fransisco, L.A., Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Brussels,  Geneva, Palma de Majorca, Madeira, Bangkok, Hong Kong, .. just to name a few .. 🙂

Maybe we over here in Europe are more lucky then in the USA, that could be...

Yeah mostly fly in US so doesn't work as well for us I guess.  But all that aside what PSXseeconTraffic  doesn't do is provide models and repaints which is what I think the OP was looking for.

  9. While i've always kept my eyes open for programs that could provide a robust and up to date AI traffic set up, i've yet to see anything worth while or money.   Yes building from scratch takes some time but its well worth it and completely rewarding.  You can also customize it however you want.   Don't fly in Asia much then don't download and insert many of the regional Asian airlines.   Love military aircraft at near by AFBs or ANGs, then MAIW has you covered.   AIG, FAIB and many others have made it as simple as they can, but yes its up to you to do the work.  Its not a one click process.   Hell even MAIW who were clinging to FS9 up until about a few months ago have now converted most of their aircraft to P3D v4.  And are creating a program where it installs the military aircraft you want with one click.

Just saying if you are unhappy there are alternatives but depends how much you want to put into it.

PSXseeconTraffic is a fun program and I like it but like Dave said I didn't have any aircraft at gates so kind of ruined the immersion.   AIG updates the seasonal flightplans constantly so you can have up to date flightplans using AIFP with minimal work.

  10. The AI will use basic calm conditions when determining a runway when you first load in.  So if you have a weather engine that injects the weather right after loading, and the wind direction says you should use the opposite runway it unfortunately doesn't correct the AI runway in operation since they were already given the instructions for runway in use.

I think you can after loading in and letting your weather engine inject the weather to pull the sim time to the left or right 15 min.   Then AI should correct based on real weather conditions.  But i may be wrong.

Default ATC also does not know special airport instructions i.e. said runway at airport is only used for departures.  AI will land on this runway.   Don't know if Pro ATC or RC know these as well.

  11. always the problem with gift cards they are nice but online purchases prove to be a hassle.  Just use your own card and use the gift card for something else you buy like food etc.  its still a wash and will save you the headache.

Ok, didn't think about that. I will try that and see how it turns out. Will let you know if this solves the issue. Thanks guys.

Yeah I second what Kay wrote.   A few of the aircraft configs were missing Radio sections.   I think either AIG or maybe it was MAIW have a tool you can download that will search your AI folder to see if configs are missing this section and let you know which ones.   then its just a simple copy paste to fix.

Another way to tell is if planes are at the gate but not moving at all.

  13. Or wait and get it on PCAviator when available for 10% off Tues and if you have a $5 off coupon its even cheaper.

I did really enjoy flying this in FSX and P3D v3.  So i'll bite but only with those discounts.

Paints were downloadable from their site but also can be found in AVSIM library.  Most are pretty dated though.

  14. Great example is that Aerosoft puts out monthly if not weekly updates.  And they get crucified by every fs pilot in the forums who meticulous pick over the images or videos.  Or if they put nominal release dates and decide to take longer to add in functionality like TrueGlass and RealLight, they get smeared as being liars and terrible developers.

So like Kyle said its damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I really enjoy previews and never understand those who choose to post and pick at every little thing until release.  Kind of ruin it for the rest of us.

  15. But just FYI, QW is updating their 757 now and supposedly it will release after the 787 for v4.   Also Level D, during the fall of last year unveiled their 757 for v4 which is supposedly in Beta but haven't heard anything since.

I was going to wait to decide between the 3 but these two above may take too long.   Idk.

That exactly is the mistake. A port to x64 would have kept their customers at their product and that could have been done with very little effort and if some manager tells you that they would had to rewrite the whole code just for a naked x86=>x64 port he does that mentioned 'storyteller' part of his job pretty good ;-)

Yeah but say AS did the simple port then when the FSlabs Airbus offering came out people would have said "This is wayyy better than AS airbus because AS needs to update their series, their systems suck, blah blah".  so they lose either way.

But in the end they provide different experiences.

If you want a somewhat study level sim then go with the FSlabs A320.

If you want a full set of Airbuses that are great for the FS world but not super technical then AS is the better product.

AS is far more open about their products than probably any other dev.  We don't hear about PMDG until it releases, same with level D, same with Captainsim, same with FlyTampa, same with QW.

Seems like you made your decision a while ago so why rehash it.

I personally don´t care about any delays. That can happen... I don´t mind.

The difference between the PMDG NG and the Aerosoft Airbus is... PMDG provided free x64 ports for the whole product line. Aerosoft didn´t.

If he was not able to tell stories he´d truly be a bad manager ;-)

@Nyxx what do you think is the reason for not porting the old Airbus to x64?

I guess what part of "they are porting to 64bit but also decided to really enhance the aircraft and rebuild the systems from the ground up, add other 64bit enhancements like TrueGlass etc" didn't you get.  All PMDG did was make the gauges 64 bit.  As stated many times above AS, as a good dev should do, decided to make their product better.

Could they have taken the time to port just the gauges and whatever else broke moving to v4...yes.  But why spend precious developer time making a middling update when you can really make the product better.  So flightsimmers don't have an Airbus series for 6+ months or however long its been.  In the end they get a better aircraft series.

So if AS is rebuilding the aircraft from the ground up with almost 80% new code why is an upgrade fee unjustified.   Hell feelthere, Captainsim, and many other devs charged for the simple port over.  AS is redoing almost everything.

I guess I don't get the angst towards devs. I'm not an AS apologist but i don't think any of us know what its like until we are in their shoes.  Especially when flight simmers have an infinite combination of hardware systems, 4+ flight sims, multiple update versions in those flight sims, compatibility among other addons.  I know i wouldn't want to deal with that nightmare.

  18. 1 hour ago, Schlotterknie said:

    I didn´t question that.

Not for a plain x64 port only. Being a programmer by myself I simply don´t believe any story about the need of completely rewritten code just for x64 compatibility.
As I said before... I do understand their decision commercially but I don´t think their underlying argumentation is 100% candid.

Well thats because they didn't say it was a plain 64bit port.  I think that was their plan initially when v4 was a rumor but then decided to do the much needed work on the aircraft series as a whole to incorporate a ton of enhancements to take advantage of the 64bit arena.  Better FMC, systems, TrueGlass, lighting, etc so that is a much larger coding effort.  And as a coder then you should know anything with the FMC is a nightmare.  I'm guessing they wanted to keep pace with FSlabs but each aircraft provide a dfferent experience but it will be a much improved set of aircraft.

Have you for once read through the pages on this thread? I’ve been unequivocally in favour of the couatl thoery all along and now you accuse me of blaming the dev? I said the dev would reply in a certain way to basically every complaint no matter what, and I did NOT say this particular crash is in any way LM’s fault. I’m really compelled to assume I’m up against some [REMOVED]  but please have another go show us you don’t jarringly lack [REMOVED]

Lol nice one!   Well i've actually posted numerous times on this thread so maybe YOU should read it thoroughly.  My posts were just replying to Tooting who you seemed to jump on me to defend his bashing of LM.  So feel free to scroll back and see who i quoted and where you jumped in.  The point is I am trying to help.  Like I said and others have said "have you tried plain vanilla P3D v4, no addons, no addon aircraft, and seen the crash?"  If no then start adding addons back in.  I know it sucks and its BS but to noodle a problem like this it might take that kind of method to figure it out.

Try asking Umberto on FSDT forums but he'll defend coautl so be prepared for that.   While coautl has caused crashes before, usually running the standalone manager or the Live update clears those up.

Oh I see, they ‘answer’ on there, I mean clear the shaders and delete generated files, or even better reinstall the sim. We all know what the LM ‘answer’ is genius that’s why nobody cares about the ‘answer’ any longer. And please don’t hesitate to bog off this thread if all you can input is derision and ridicule.

because exactly what Dan said and I have said this before as well if you can't prove its the sim then don't spend time [REMOVED]  on the dev when its not their fault.

I've said before to remove all addons and i mean all addons.  Basic sim and if it doesn't crash then its an addon.  then you put addons back in one at a time until it crashes again.  And yet the reply i got was "no one has time  for that".  Well if thats the reply don't spend time blaming the dev for an issue you can't pinpoint or not willing to.

Especially when above posts claim this might be a coautl issue.  Which yes coautl can cause crashes.

I was experiencing hanging sim crash for a few days but i didn't come on here and tell LM they are trash and terrible devs.  I fixed it by running down the last addons i updated or installed.  And turned out it was the SODE update.

AVSIM admins will tell you to do the same thing and they have been doing this longer than most of us.
