  1. Drop-in GCA (Ground Control Approach) free add-on for Manfred Jahn's C-47 V3 is coming soon.By radio, Approach Controller provides vectors to PAR intercept, GCA Final Controller talks you down to the runway threshold by radioing heading and descent info.Adaptable to other aircraft with some fiddling. Works in FSX and P3D.No, we don't know when it will be released, but "real soon now"... IOW, when Manfred's done. A short history of the 'blind landing' systems is available as PDF here. It will be part of the final package.Sneak peek video available on YouTube. (Clips in the video were recorded live, he's working on the manual...IOW getting close.)
  2. lt all goes to the concept of customer orientation (or not). Not sure what is going on with them/him. Pity because they do create pretty airplanes.
  3. My first Navy training flights were in a UC-45J. The inboard upper quadrants of both engines were black. Sadly my picture doesn't answer the question, but there are plenty online that indicate the Carenado texture needs to be fixed. Note that there's a weird moving shadow on the right wing (shown below) and on the tail, too. Not sure how the shadow textures work, but the one on the tail (not shown here) was clearly the engine nacelle and prop dome.
  4. No idea why they haven't added it to the update page, peehaps because it's more a reinstall than simply an update. Login to your Carenado account and go to downloads. You'll find the link there along with the product key that'll need, too.
  5. Apparently the did it on purpose under the assumption that people wouldn't have rudders pedals or multiple throttles. Nevermind that no Model 18 in its long history ever flew with a steerable tailwheel. Seems to me that's a slippery slope, designing for the lowest common denominator. Seems to me a better solution would be to make it a configuration option. Anyway, WH has the solution.
  6. If you aren't familiar with twinbeech.com you'll find the site and Taigh Ramey a huge help.
  7. If you replace the default sound folder with the folder from Shupe's Beech 18 it'll sound great. Flies the same, near as I can tell, and a lot of the systems still aren't working (e.g. oil cooler, oil shut off, etc have no effect on oil temp) so you won't be challenged to operate her properly, you can just ignore them. With the replaced sounds and some CFG and AIR mods I'm enjoying the bird
  8. Have installed update 1.1 (whole new install) and reinstalled the SkySong sounds. No joy. I put Shupe's back in.
  9. To get the update you have to log in to your Carenado account and download the new installer. Be sure to save out your sound folder if you're using Shupe's and any files you've tweaked and then move or delete the original install. You'll need your email address and purchase key, both available on your account page. Lots of little fixes, the most obvious being the fuel pressure lights and mag switches that seem to work now. Yay!
  10. Some sample sounds in little video I made a few years ago, air to air shot from our SNJ. All the sounds are recording of real airplanes unmodified, but I took a lot of liberties where I put them when I edited these clips. I think they're all sounds recorded on the ramp of fly-bys. None were recorded in the air. Apologies for the terrible compressed video artifacts and awful unsteady camera.
  11. Followed the directions carefully and doubled checked what I'd done, but they sound like a diesel tractor. Didn't hear any of the prop howl that is so characteristic of the Twin Beech at all. I wonder what could be wrong? Perhaps I'll reinstall the whole Carenado package and then reinstall the sound package and see what happens.
  12. Tried it, Mike, but Shupe's is still the best available, at least to my ear. Not saying you're wrong, just my opinion.
  13. This ain't it, maybe it was in Flying. But here's another.
  14. Good one! Years ago I saw one, also in AOPA Pilot I believe, titled Big Red. I'll see if I can find it.
  15. Gulp, I hope they say yes. I posted mine elsewhere here already. Don't see where it's any different than creating a repaint. I'm not selling the AIR and CFG files, after all.
  16. Bravo, well done! I like your results. She's much much better I had to use AirWrench, which was different than inyour video, but it allowed me to discovered all manner of silliness in the AIR file. Looks like a lot of it was copied from another aircraft. Being no expert I wasn't sure what I could change without ruining everything. Just back from three TO and landings at gross weight from KEKA and I'm a happy boy. It's not perfect, perhaps a bit too heavy feeling, but sure seems more like the Twin Beech I remember. To be clear, I haven't checked her against performance charts, with an engine out, up high, etc. But she feels right, now. And with Shupe's soun d files she sounds good. If Carfenado doesn't perform, at least we have a usable aircraft using one of these two methods. Different strokes for different folks, your mileage may vary, take it or leave it, use it or not ... here's what I liked I have a need for speed? Not. First aircraft I flew in, in the Navy!
  17. The pushing forward part is hard to do smoothly. The big muscles in your arm aren't very precise, but the fine muscles in your fingers aren't quite strong enough to do it. So the trick is to add a touch of nose down trim on short final. Then, when the wheels touch you just relax your back pressure on the yoke and she pins herself to the deck. So, like many other situations, if you just let the aircraft handle it, it works out fine. That said, if you're going to use brakes, then you definitely want to put weight on the wheels by pushing forward some after a smooth touchdown. PIO can create problems in an aircraft with a training wheel on the front, too. As you point out, it's usually because the aircraft is too fast and the pilot tries to force it on to the runway.
  18. Concur! Stumbled on that a bunch of times and it never percolated up through the fog to gripe it It's an interesting arrangement, really two tanks--and upper and lower that together hold 77gals. Each tank has its own" liquidometer" Why don't you submit a ticket regarding the missing tank at https://carenado.zendesk.com/hc/en-us so they don't think I'm picking on them? Also missing is a crossfeed valve (under copilot seat). The wing deice boot control ( below prop deice knob) is labeled "lever deice" which is probably a garbled version of Leading Edge Deice or maybe L.E. Deice. Just to re-iterate if you didn't see my comment elsewhere, if your replace the sound folder with the wonderful sounds from Milton Shupe's freeware Twin Beech you'll suddenly be flying something that sounds like a Twin Beech. Very good inside sounds, pretty good outside except flyby that is missing the characteristic prop howl.
  19. the aircraft exhibits no yaw when flown single engine, not even way below blue line. the magneto switches are not connected to anything. With them off the engines continue to run The feathering buttons when held in will not unfeather the prop After running an engine hard with cowl flaps closed there was no appreciable change in CHT or oil temp
  20. Just received a reply from Carenado saying In the meantime, I renamed the sound file and dropped in the one from Shupe's Model 18 and have been playing with the CFG file. I doubled the MOI for pitch, roll, and yaw and decreased the control effectiveness to 0.9 and it feels much better. BUT now it seems to want to leap into the air at 40kts in some circumstances and it won't maintain altitude on one engine. I've never fiddled with an AIR file before, but looks like it's time. Yes, I know, it's a black art, but...
  21. Mine too! Jan Visser's vintage virtual cockpit is stunning. I have to confess, though, that I played a minor role in the development of the C-47V3, so I'm a little prejudiced. Among other small contributions, my voice is the copilot's, my wife is the saucy stewardess. Keep an eye on wing42.com and their early release Lockheed Vega. They're doing some very deep research and modeling on systems and it promises to be something special. Here's a shot I took a couple of days ago at Felts Field in Spokane. ORBX did a great job with KSFF and I really love the art deco terminal building and clock.
  22. Once they get their Shinola together I'd be happy to write a 'how to' post. We had to create a Part 135 'Air Taxi' operation and maintenance manual for our second Twin Beech because it looked like the FAA was going to shut down any Part 91 operations. Trust me, you don't want to read it. But boiled down to the essence it could make it fun for folks who like flying this ol' girl and want to do it 'right'.
  23. Copilot's fluorescent light dimmer labeled left, same as pilot's Post lights labeled 'RNAV on NAVI1' and 'RNAV on NAVI2' have nothing to do with RNAV
