  1. I found the drop down for the axis indicator easy enough but when I activate it the program locks up and eventually windows announces that the program is no longer responding. Is there a patch for this? I have FS2002 Professional edition.
  2. I though of that too and selected the only other sound input option to no avail. This only happened after I downloaded a plane that failed to produce any sound at all. But all other planes still produce their normal flying sounds.
  3. I finally got through to the 800 number listed and successfully validated the installation. After which I reinstalled FSX acceleration successfully. So, even though the web site may not be working you can at least for now validate FSX over the phone. But the original problem remains. When using the AI ATC the text flashes across the screen as before but there is no speech. I can live with that. Everything else is working fine.
  4. OK, by accident I discovered that the FSX Acceleration program needed to be uninstalled separately. After that FSX completed the installation and asked for the product key. After typing in the product key it tried to validate the product unsuccessfully stating the web page was unavailable. The FSX Acceleration program won't reload until FSX is validated. I read that microsoft has sold all it's flight sim development to another entity, so am I to assume that they won't continue to validate FSX installations? Is there a work around?
  5. I have a similar problem. FSX has been working for over a week since I loaded it from a new set of discs, until last night. A sound file that controlled the AI tower communication had stopped working so I inserted disc 1 and initiated a repair sequence. After a few minutes a screen appeared stating the repair was complete and a reboot was necessary. After the reboot I tried to start FSX. All the scenery seemed to load OK and then just short of the main screen a box appeared stating a fatal error had occurred. After a couple more failed attempts I decided to uninstall FSX and do a full reinstall. This time however it never asked me to enter the key code and at the end of the install process the installer froze. I tried running FSX.exe and ended up with the same fatal error so I am now at a loss as to what to do next. Does anyone have any suggestions. I am running Windows 7 Pro on a HP Compac 8200 with an intel quad core processor.
  6. I wish this buyer would reopen Fighter Ace for those of us who can't afford expensive new hardware to run combat flight sims that are basically just eye candy. As long as the flight model is stable and host can tolerate up to say 100 players at a time, that is what is most important. Super high fidelity graphics is very low on my list of requirements
  7. Yeah, I looked it up too and started about 5 min before the time listed and flew around Mt.St. Helens for over 30 min. No boom, not even a wimper.
  8. Correction, there is a mission to rescue scientists on Mt. St. Helens just before the eruption in a helicopter. There is a lot of ash in the air but I saw no eruption. But if you just go to that date in free flight mode nothing happens.
  9. Well there was no eruption at Mt. St. Helens in my FSX. Bummer.
  10. I have read that certain historical aviation events are embedded in the FSX software. Like the first flight at Kittyhawk, NC. Is there a list of such events that have been discovered or is this just a myth. Like I was wondering if any of the Space Shuttle or Apollo launches could be watched if the correct date and time is used?
  11. Thanks guys I found it just after I posted the question. I'd gladly pay for an up to date FOTI and I don't understand the popularity of games like World of Warplanes and War Thunder as I think they are both lacking in everything but looks.
  12. A long time ago I read the book and when the sim came out by Spectrum Holobyte I purchased it. I had a lot of fun planning and executing missions but eventually with newer computers and operating systems the program just would not load and by now I have lost the discs. The graphics were pretty crude but the flight model was excellent. I got pretty good at landing the intruder on a carrier deck and even then the carrier was moving and it was tricky to line up to land on the angled deck. I never mastered landing the F-4 Phantom so I used the auto land function. So, anyway I have wondered for several years why no one has updated and re-released this sim, especially now with the increased interest about the Viet Nam War. Does anyone else agree that a new version would be welcome?
