Bring back "Flight of the Intruder"................................please

Featured Replies

A long time ago I read the book and when the sim came out by Spectrum Holobyte I purchased it.  I had a lot of fun planning and executing missions but eventually with newer computers and operating systems the program just would not load and by now I have lost the discs.  The graphics were pretty crude but the flight model was excellent.  I got pretty good at landing the intruder on a carrier deck and even then the carrier was moving and it was tricky to line up to land on the angled deck.  I never mastered landing the F-4 Phantom so I used the auto land function.

So, anyway I have wondered for several years why no one has updated and re-released this sim, especially now with the increased interest about the Viet Nam War.  Does anyone else agree that a new version would be welcome?

I loved F O the I as well, the the weapon delivery was ahead of its time and air-to-air was very good, ai aircraft moved very well.

Yes graphics were crude but the hardware available wasnt great either.

From memory the version i had came with the book, loved the film.

I'd buy a modern version in a heart beat but dont think it will happen, think DCS is is closest chance.

Titles like this EF2000 and Falcon 3.0 (4.0 did not have the robustness of 3.0) are dead at this point.  People can't wrap their heads around well thought out titles like this.  Heck, many can't deal with Flight Simulator in it's truest since.  Why this is I don't know.  It's amazing a title like SIM's has caught on for so long or some of the fantasy role playing games that's been around for years.  Most would rather purchase Angry Birds or title in that area.  I hope some developer just goes against the grain and puts something out there again like FOTI.  Like P3D there's a market if people know about it and do it for the love of the hobby.  How someone got LM to further develop P3D is an act of genius in the climate we have today.  We need something like that for combat sims.

Thanks guys I found it just after I posted the question.  I'd gladly pay for an up to date FOTI and I don't understand the popularity of games like World of Warplanes and War Thunder as I think they are both lacking in everything but looks.

Dillon,

You really need to look into Falcon BMS 4.32, which is an excellent mod package for the unpolished Falcon 4.0.

I've looked at it but applying the mod looks pretty involved. I don't know if this mod can be applied to Allied Force or the original product. I don't believe the original product can be installed in W7 let alone getting a patch installed. I haven't had time to figure out how to make this work....

Works wll in Windows 7 without any issues.

Installing the BMS 4.32 patch is pretty much a click click boom affair. Past patches were a real PITA, but this one is extremely easy. If you can tweak FSX, this is a breeze.

Unfortunately it does not install with AF as you must have the original Falcon 4 install media for this patch to work.  :(

I have my original disks. Your saying I can install a Windows 98 app in Windows 7? From there I can install the patch and be off. If that's the case I'm in. Is the BMS patch free or can be had for a price.

BMS is free. You need to register on the Benchmark Sims site and download the patch and subsequent updates.

Keep in mind that you must have the original Falcon 4 disks and not the Falcon 4 Allied Force disks.

I never played FOTI, but I imagine that it was of the same high caliber as all of the other Spectrum Holobyte product.

I have my original Falcon 4.0 disks from the original product.  I'll give it a go, thanks...

There is an FAQ on the site about the install. You do not install the original game.
