New Computer - Advice on Settings Page
Daniel Baker replied to Daniel Baker's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcThanks so much for the advice. I followed your guidance but unfortunately wasn't able to make any headway with performance. Since I have a narrow window closing, I've decided to return the computer for a refund. It's almost certainly something I'm doing, but I don't seem to be smart enough, or have enough time, to figure out what I'm doing wrong. It could also be my expectations were too high, but I expected for $6000 I'd be able to run a complex airliner in a busy airport with a reasonable amount of traffic @ a steady 30fps; I don't feel like the value is there otherwise. Appreciate your help @LRBS!

New Computer - Advice on Settings Page
Daniel Baker replied to Daniel Baker's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcThanks very much. I'll jump right into this after work tomorrow. Something strange is going on for sure. I get horrible screen tearing with Frame Generation on, even with V sync enabled.

New Computer - Advice on Settings Page
Daniel Baker replied to Daniel Baker's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcHi @LRBS, Thanks so much for your reply. FPS is 45 with 50 ai @ SFO (image=Link 2) 55 with 0 ai @ SFO (image=Link) Okay, drivers updated. Frame generation gives me about 57 fps with no ai I'll try deleting the UserCFG - thanks. Will that clear my control bindings? Doesn't it look like I'm CPU, rather than GPU bound? Main thread being the limiting factor from Link 2 and Link. I'm new to this but watch a few videos, so I could be reading this wrong. Again, thanks for your help, Daniel.

New Computer - Advice on Settings Page
Hello all, I'm starting a new thread from my last one because I believe starting a new thread is better than adding to the previous one. But just in case, you can refer to that thread here. In that thread, I asked if I could expect a steady 30 fps in a busy airport at 1080p (limited by my monitor at the moment) with a complex airliner using this new system: Intel(R) Core(TM) 14th Gen i9 14900KF (24-Core, 68MB Cache, 2.4GHz to 6.0GHz Thermal Velocity Boost) GeForce RTX(TM) 4090, 24GB GDDR6X 2x32GB, DDR5, 5200MT/s 2TB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive The general feedback was that I could expect to achieve closer to a steady 80 fps under those conditions. However, I'm not achieving that, so I’m wondering if there’s something wrong with my settings and would appreciate any feedback on them. For reference, this is in: Flightbeam KSFO Fenix A320 Here are some screenshots: Settings Screens Link 1 Link 2 Link 3 Results with 50 AI Planes: Link 1 Link 2 With 0 AI Planes: Link These results are obviously below what I was told to expect. I respect those opinions, so I feel that something is happening with my setup or my system. I would appreciate any feedback you may have. As I stated in my previous post, I have a window to return the computer and buy something else, but the clock is ticking on that. Thanks, Daniel

New MSFS - New Computer Build and Expectations
Daniel Baker replied to Daniel Baker's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcI agree, and I will eventually. Just wanted to make sure I could run it with this computer before I spent even more.

New MSFS - New Computer Build and Expectations
Daniel Baker replied to Daniel Baker's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcI looked in all the places I knew to look, and finally I came across a Dell ad. My stipulations at the time was the top chip I was aware of and the top GPU I could find. The 5090 had just been released but everything I read was that it was going to be impossible find for 6 months at least. I decided to "settle" on a 4090 if I could find one. I found a 9800X3D but it had a second/third tier graphics card. I would go for that if I found one with a 4090. I've always had custom systems built for me, but trying to find components was a nightmare. I went to the place I've used before (Canada Computers) and they essentially said forget it - better to buy something pre-built as we have no parts that you want and no timeframe on getting any, at any price. I must have picked the worst time in history to buy a new computer, lol

New MSFS - New Computer Build and Expectations
Hi everyone, I'm looking for a little advice here, being new to MSFS after being a long time P3D user. I recently purchased a new system specifically to run MSFS: Intel(R) Core(TM) 14th Gen i9 14900KF (24-Core, 68MB Cache, 2.4GHz to 6.0GHz Thermal Velocity Boost) GeForce RTX(TM) 4090, 24GB GDDR6X 1 2,400.00 2,400.00 2x32GB, DDR5, 5200MT/s 2TB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive I'm new to this, and new to tweaking MSFS, and that process can take a lot of time to get right. But I wanted to ask a more fundamental question first, as I have a window to return the system for a full refund within 30 days; Is it a realistic expectation to run MSFS 2020 (or MSFS2024, if I purchase it), 1080p A steady locked 30 fps at a major airport (JFK, LAX, EGLL) 50 AI aircraft (I've been trialing FSLTL) high graphic settings A complex aircraft; PMDG, Fenix, FBW A380 I know there are numerous approaches and philosophies, but simply wondering if my expectations a ballpark reasonable or not. The system is ~$6000 CAD, so I'm happy to return it and find a better one (or even wait for something new) if that's the general consensus. Apologies for the newbie question, and many thanks for your opinions. Daniel

MSFS 2020 Horizon 787-9 Genx Sound Issue
Hi, I'm new to MSFS, and I've been playing around with the Horizon 787-9, downloaded from Orbx. I had it working quite nicely, but all of a sudden I lost all sounds (buttons, engines, everything) for the Genx verison. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the issue persists. Any ideas what might be the issue? I'm on Windows 10 and they just pushed an update... not sure if that broke something? Appreciate any help, Daniel

Perfect! Thanks so much Dave!

AI Parking Radius
Hi all, I'm using V3.2 with WOAI traffic, and I've noticed that although the ai aircraft respect the gate assignments with regards to airline, they don't respect the gates with respect to size (ie; large aircraft parking at small gates, etc.) I think many of the models were originally for FS9 - maybe that's why? At any rate, does anyone know what I have to modify/add to make them respect the gate size constraints? Many thanks in advance. - Daniel

Night darkness without HDR
Thanks for your answer; I do have that installed, and it's great, but still the ground textures and sky at night are too bright, unfortunately. I guess there's nothing else to try? No other adjustments? - Daniel

Night darkness without HDR
Hi there, Apologies if this is a rookie question, but is there any way to darken the night environment in P3D V3.2 without using HDR? I don't use HDR because I'm trying to save all the FPS I can. i6700k, gtx970, Win10 64 Thanks very much in advance for any help here. - Daniel

Godzone Wellington Freeware for P3D V3
Ah, of course. I might try and fiddle with it and find some jetways and fences to place (although I haven't been able to yet find a simple object placer for P3D). The scenery still looks very pretty, I must say - thanks for the freeware release, it's very generous of you. I will look forward to purchasing the new Wellington when it is released. Thanks for taking the time to answer. - Daniel

Cloud brightness dawn/dusk/night
Totally understandable, thanks. I'll look forward to the update from Pe11e. Would you know how to find it?

5820k for P3D V3?
Daniel Baker replied to Daniel Baker's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcInteresting, thanks. Some mixed results there, I guess? Don't really know how to assess that properly... So - is there no real advantage in P3d to having 6 cores over 4 cores? Any benefit when you're running Active Sky Next, FS Captain, etc. while running P3D?

5820k for P3D V3?
Daniel Baker replied to Daniel Baker's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcThanks Manny. I'm definitely going to overclock - the build includes a H100i water cooler (should have said that). I heard you can easily over clock the 5820K to 4.4Mhz and others have it stable at 4.8Mhz I'd imagine you can do the same for the 6700k? - Daniel

5820k for P3D V3?
Hi guys, Getting back into simming after a lengthy layoff. I last used FS2004, and never moved to FSX. I've decided now I want to move to P3D and I'm ready to build a new rig, but feel totally baffled by process. I went to best local PC shop and spoke to a guy who put a system together for me (based on what I know about P3D performance on CPUs/GPUs, which isn't much). He came up with a i7 5820k and a GTX 970. Motherboard is an MSI x99A SLI. Samsung EVO SSD, 8gb DDR4 3000mhz memory. I guess I can always upgrade the GPU, but I don't want to make a mistake on the CPU. I wasn't willing to spend enough for a 5960X, but I might be willing to go to a 6700k. So I guess my question is should I stick with the 5820k or go with the 6700k? Or something else, comparable price? Thanks for any advice (this stuff is doing my head in) - Daniel
