  1. Hi,

Thank you all for your feedback. We're still trying to get to the bottom of this but alas there is not much clear solution for now.

Some have reported disabling HyperV is helping, some others are reporting running as-admin is helping too (but I don't like the idea of having to run as-admin just for this). Even the latest SteamVR v1.22.5 update includes specific note to an issue which sounds related (but we haven't found any specific information about it yet):

"Fix for Win11 multimedia timer resolution issue that was causing pink frame spikes on some systems. Special thanks to Miguel Caballero for helping track this down!"

This issue with Win11 which also only affects the GNS and not the GTN is really peculiar, but we keep looking.

  2. Hi,

You'll find most answers either in the forum or in the RXP GNS User's Manual. For example:

I'm not completely clear on exactly what all the options are doing

Every single setting is explained in the Manual "Settings" chapter p10 to p13

and why you would or would not want them on(set).  For example, Connect GPS to AP & GPS to HSI.  Is there a reason you want these off on a master device?  I'm assuming GPS to HSI moves the HSI per GPS navigation; which seems to make sense, but why have an option to disable it, is there a practical reason?

The first reason would be to not using it!

The 2nd reason would be to workaround specific aircraft implementation and/or limitations. For example, some vendors are using the VOR1 dataref to drive the needle of the HSI gauge in their panel, instead of the HSI datarefs.

When would you use HSI/CRS (auto-slew)?

When you'd like using this feature! What is it doing is explained in the "Settings" chapter, which should be self-explicit:

"Select if the device auto-slew the HSI Course Selector when the DTK changes"

Third, I noticed the GPS (compass heading) does not match the a/c magnetic heading

It is expected there is a difference in the geo magnetic model between the GPS device and the simulator (like IRL), typically about +- 2deg, because the GPS one is synthetic, based on tables (and actually contained in the database IIRC). I'd suggest you probably open a new topic just for this question, other real world pilots with Garmin experience might be able to jump in and share how they're doing in practice IRL.

  3. @robert young If you've had the chance to fly the PA28 in FS2020, I'd strongly suggest you try the same PA28 from the same vendor in XP11. I'm thinking of this one because this is probably one of the few aircraft available on both platforms, made by the same vendor. Knowing you have a very good appreciation of flight models, comparing the two is to me very revealing about what each platform is capable of offering in this department.

I read that announcement but do not understand what NIS does in msfs.  Can someone  better explain it, especially the benefits?

What it does in practice is that the game renders at a lower resolution than the one you're displaying, which in turn boosts fps. The idea is to scale up the image prior displaying in a way which is barely noticeable from native resolution.

It is a piece of shader code for upscaling and sharpening the image, and it does it in a more effective way visually than a traditional upscaling algorithm. AMD also has an equivalent named FSR (FidelityFx Super Resolution). This news is about having this piece of shader code embedded in the driver so that you can enable it on any game transparently. These are open source shader code you can find here:

    https://github.com/NVIDIAGameWorks/NVIDIAImageScaling
    https://github.com/GPUOpen-Effects/FidelityFX-FSR

In practice, we've implemented NIS and FSR in the OpenXR ToolKit and this has been drastically changing the VR experience of many users:

But yes the main issue is the information is not being passed over to the team good enough as you say, the Devs appear to be in their own bubble so remaining oblivious to many issues. The regression in VR on recent updates it's testament to their ignorance, even though Jorg & Martial state they play in VR...I find that hard to believe.

I just catched up the latest QA and speaking of a bubble:

Could there be a sharpening option in the menu if you want to un-sharpen or sharpen your graphics? 1080p monitors, they say, have an over-sharpened look. Timestamp

Seb - We have a sharpening postprocessing filter linked with TAA [temporal anti-aliasing]. I don’t think there’s an option right now. It’s definitely feasible to add a sharpening slider. We should add that to the list and see when we can do it. I think it was in the options file at some point. (Maybe or maybe not; maybe I’m wrong.) I’ve definitely seen it in our code options. We can add that to our list of things to do: Sharpening or un-sharpening. People may want to have it both ways.

It is not as if it wasn't asked or commented about before though (see below)...

Contradictions like these make it very difficult to know who to believe when the results continue to speak otherwise.

All we hear is soothing talk about how it's all going in the right direction, just give them time. Time to let the money keep on rolling in.

Indeed, such contradictions are perplexing sometimes. For example about the "sharpening postprocessing", here is what I wrote since January 2021...
[BUG/FEATURE] Provide Color Space, Tone Mapping, CAS Shader Strength and post-processing effects controls in VR - Virtual Reality (VR) / VR Wishlist - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

More specifically about the CAS Shader Sharpen setting:

But what can we do about this when the moderators are even locking me out of my own topics and posts....

PS: it is even feedback-logged but it just seem like something new to discuss about in the QA...

The value for this ref is 0 because the avionics bus is off, but the RXP is powered up anyway.

Maybe there is a bug of some sort in our code but this is peculiar, because in this case, I really don't know why it would. The code is quite straightforward here: is the dataref 0? don't power, otherwise do power ?!

It's my perception that they don't read the forums at all and rely solely on the community mods to pass on information, case in point in a recent Q&A when he stated he'd not seen much feedback on the replay system even though there was a thread with 100+ replies....And lest we forget the infamous "what lightning in Clear Skies bug?" during an early Q&A when there were multiple threads on the subject at the time!

It seems so, and unfortunately because passing information depends on the capacity of the moderators to just understand it, there is a whole bunch of information which never passes through. Case in point, there is a shimmering problem since SU5 which I have tried documenting with very precise technical information. But one of these moderators (who his not on the MSFT payroll so it seems) thought it would be a good idea to just delete one of my post entirely from history, a post in which I was trying to give back some help to Sebastian who was asking for it in a Q&A. Not only my post was deleted, but inquiring about why lead their MSFT Community managers to simply ban my account for several days...

  8. Hi,

Do you mean popped out or popup ?

The former is a standalone Windows window with a title bar, the latter displays in the main sim window only.

I'd suggest you review the C172 topic in this forum for more information, especially studying the .ini file parameters when put in perspective of the panel mod tutorial:

    https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/523298-gtn-750-default-cessna-172/
    https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/535115-tutorial-upgrade-x-plane-11-baron-58-gps/

Both topics combined should help you matching everything together regarding the 3D panel configuration.

  9. I'm not sure to understand what you mean with "only NAV1 and NAV2" above: what is "on gauge options" you're referring to?!

Also, do you mean the autopilot doesn't follow even with both "Connect GPS to HSI" and "Connect GPS to VOR"?

Did you by any chance tried enabling "Auto-Update Simulator GPS Waypoints" in case this aircraft autopilot is expecting a flight plan in the stock flight plan system?

  10. Hi,

You're reviving good souvenirs of the past!

I don't believe you can drop-in replace this very old GNS at all, the gauges IIRC are all designed to work together in this aircraft, and even if they could be split apart, these are even pre-WAAS GNS gauges with a totally different implementation regarding the aircraft and the simulator (unlike our GNS WAAS Legacy - the one before GNS V2).

At this stage, I guess it might be time to upgrade to a newer simulator and aircraft maybe?

  11. Hi,

The RXP GTN is not "locking out" the CRS knob at all: auto-slew only slews the CRS when the DTK changes, and only when it changes, but you can still change the CRS.

Therefore I believe this issue is either the Carenado 210 code logic locking it out (either voluntarily or just as a by product of overriding the GPS which it doesn't handle appropriately), or there a setting in plane maker locking out the CRS when in GPS mode. Unfortunately this doesn't look like something we can have any control over.

  12. It just means the XTrident 412 autopilot is doing it own logic somehow regardless of the value of some of the actual XP11 datarefs, and it seems to be following the XP11 flight plan waypoints instead of the GPS data maybe. If this is the case, you might want to enable the RXP GTN setting: " Auto-Update Simulator GPS Waypoints" which will override the default flight plan system waypoints and this might be helping. (NB: this might be not fully working with "procedure turns" or otherwise "complex" legs because the default flight plan system - the FMS data - is basically only a series of waypoints with straight legs between them).

  13. There is no real magic here: the setting directly binds power source logic to corresponding dataref*

If you're opening the aircraft with plane maker, you can find on the electrical details which bus powers the GPS, and then match this in the RXP GNS setting to get the same behavior! For example if in this aircraft the bus powering the gps is for example #4, you'd select #4 in the RXP GNS settings.

    *sim/cockpit/electrical/avionics_on, sim/cockpit/electrical/battery_on, sim/cockpit2/electrical/bus_volts (> 10v).

A little off topic here, but for DCS lovers who haven't already discovered it, this app below works very well for me so far and has a noticeable FPS gain, plus you can use the OpenXR Toolkit with it (maybe with a couple of bugs I haven't yet encountered)

    https://forum.dcs.world/topic/295123-update-243-v061-openxr-quickstart-guide-for-g2-g1-and-other-headsets/

In addition, there is a very active dedicated channel with the Open-Composite ACC developer in our OpenXR Toolkit Discord, where you'll find lots of help and cutting edge information!
