  1. Warning: You CANNOT install FS 2020 on an ntfs partition, you must use a linux partition. You CANNOT use Z drive to choose a folder from root (/) If you want to install 132 Gb + 20 Gb data elsewhere, you must symlink your hidden .steam folder ! C:\ is always in /home/you/.wine/drive_c Z:\ is always available in Wine. You must add other drives (example for me : D:\ and E:\) Then you display details, from here you can select the path you want for the selected drive ! I have had some random problems at the beginning with DirectX11 : Problem solved opening Fs2020 in window mode. I could then move to full-screen mode, and from that time, no more DX 11 errors (that was a strange problem) Remember, at the beginning, FS 2020 will freeze quite often, you will get MANY stutters. Be patient ! Don't give up, after a while, they will disappear. I will enable data cache to see what happens ... Still many things to test.
  2. I am using those parameters with both O.S. I fly full-screen resolution : 5120x1440 I will add some addons in my community folder. Files location under Linux : Main program : /home/me/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/MicrosoftFlightSimulator Community folder : /home/me/.steam/root/steamapps/compatdata/1250410/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application Data/Microsoft Flight Simulator/Packages/Community
  3. Hello, Some info about Fs 2020 & Linux. Installation : Prerequisites : proton-ge-custom + steam-native + wine staging Very easy with your program manager. I used the terminal, as it is faster. Here is my gui showing proton Problem : not enough space on my nvme disk for all world updates. I have installed a new SSD 500 Gb and moved my Linux home partition to it. Fs2020 : 132 Gb download for main program 21 Gb download for world updates Fisrt launch was very long. Second and others were much faster Loading times to main Fswindow : Linux vs W11 Linux : 3'50" - Windows 11 : 3'04 Windows files are on nmme disk, much faster than my SSD used for Linux. So, I cannot really compare Loading times from main FS window to flight window : Linux vs W11 Linux : 26" - Windows 11 : 16" nvme vs ssd , is W11 faster : I do not know. FPS : same airport, same place, same parameters : Linux vs W11 Linux : 67 fps - W11 : 77 fps W11 offers more fps ! Yoke : Thrustmaster T Flight Hotas X - no difference between Linux and Windows. Community folder using 3 addons - no difference between Linux and Windows. Performance : At the beginning, many sutters and freezes under Linux. The more I use it the less stutters I get. Freezes disappeared Screen recording : no Nvidia tool, so I'm using obs-studio. Video is more fluid using W11 (probably because of fps difference) Littlenavmap : Runs perfectly under Linux. I can use windows flight plans made with W11 under FS 2020 Linux ! no need to start from scratch Flight recorder : does not work under Linux. My conclusion : I can play with FS 2020 using Linux. NO CTD ! Because of flight recorder, and fps performance, I keep using Windows 11 to produce nice videos I'm using an I9 32 gb ram + RTX 26060 super + nvme + ssd disks
  4. Yes, Nvidia drivers are available under Linux. Performance ? See this video from someone else.
  5. Answer : YES I've got 2 different users with my steam account (same email) and was using the wrong one. I cannot install FS2020 with Linux Steam. I did install Fs2020 under Linux using the WIndows exe (WIne + Proton) I will post a reply here after +- 10 hours flight.
  6. Hello, Many of us play FS 2020 under Linux. My main OS is Linux, not Windows. So, I wanted to try. I installed Proton (very easy under Archlinux : yay -S proton under my terminal.) I installed windows steam program and Linux steam program. Both versions want me to buy FS2020 I do use my WIndows Steam account. Question : can I install FS2020 with steam under Linux WITHOUT buying it again ?
  7. I did try some of them : Task Bar Drag and drop files to running apps -> Ok with Thunderbird for example Cannot drag and drop app icons to pin to task bar -> right clic and pin to taskbar No option to choose task bar location -> left or Center No option to choose task bar size -> no option Never Combine Labels options missing -> no option No option to turn system icons on/off in tray -> you can, just google - I can ! No clock on secondary monitor -> Cannot test - only 1 monitor 5120x1440 System time doesn't show seconds -> no seconds Task bar context menu only settings option. No option to launch task manager, etc -> second icon on your W11 taskbar No toolbars in taskbar. Cannot add Address, Links, Desktop and Custom folders to Task Bar No screen snip in quick actions menu Shift + Click - No longer open new instance of an app -> Ctrl N No option to quickly change Power Mode (Best Battery Life, Best Performance, etc) from task bar Apps can no longer customize areas of the Taskbar Cannot view or add Calendar events from Taskbar People bar has been removed
  8. Time will tell ! I'm sure someone will fully test Fs 2020 & Win11, and report soon !
  9. You did not try final realease ! You can now do many things you could not with that one ...
  10. Win 10 support will end in 2025. Win 11 will offer android apps support - no need of an emulating app ! It's free.
  11. See if you can upgrade your BIOS. You might solve your problem. Upgrading my bios solved my problem.
  12. Using the assistant, I wrote an usb key : I can now also upgrade my wife's computer with this key ! No issue with Fs 2020. Migration was quite long - maybe 20 minutes with an nvme ssd...
  13. I upgraded Windows 10 with Windows 11. (w11 was released today) No need to use a Microsoft account. Strange as it's a pre-requisite ! Could not start FS2020 I upgraded Nvidia drivers with W11 Nvidia drivers -> problem solved Could not start Linux, my main OS -> reinstalled grub as W11 changed my fat32 UEFI partition UUID -> problem solved Secure boot is disabled and I can boot Linux ! Strange as Secureboot is requested by microsoft No other issue. That was not a nightmare. Nightmare is when a major Windows update fails and you need to reinstall it from scratch ! I then removed all W10 files using cleanmgr ! I'm ready for a couple of years ! By by W10.
  14. Hello, Asus has updated their Bios for W11 compatibility. If you have an Asus motherboard that is not compatible, check it. My motherboard was incompatible. I flashed the new bios dated 2021-08-09. Now, my computer is "W11 ready"
  15. Hello, Can we use variable cruising altitudes in our flight plans ? When I fly in mountains with an Icon A5 at low altitude, I follow ground level. User waypoints can be too low, too high,I cannot read some of them while flying, just because my cruising altitude varies ! Here is a .pln alt sample : <CruisingAlt>4000</CruisingAlt> Is there any tip ? Thanks.
  16. Can you ask a friend for an usb key with a booting linux distro ? You would be able to check your computer is 100% alive, then, you would be able to check /repair your efi partition ! you would be able to save your data onto another usb device.
  17. It's related to https instead of http : a website needs an updated certificate, using let's encrypt ( free ) or other expensive providers. Those certificates can be monthly automatically updated. Usually, they can also last 3 months or more. The domain name is not the problem : you can access a domain through http or https ! In case your certificate is no longer valid, you get the warning you got. Renewing a certificate is really easy ! httpS besomes valid again.
  18. Yes, account mandatory, cannot view as I do not want a Google account !
  19. This is not revolutionary at all : I'm using a centralized taskbar for years under Linux.
  20. You Probably WON'T Be Able to Use Windows 11. But You WILL Probably Still Be Able to Use next Linux versions on 12 years or less Pc . Keep your "old" machine ! Keep your "old" printer ! Keep your "old" webcam ! Keep your "old" scanner ! They WILL Probably run under next Linux versions. I'm still using a webcam, a printer and a scanner under Linux because M$ said these devices are too old when W7 was released. Today, those 3 devices would probably be somewhere in India or Africa. Do we NEED Windows ? Well, yes and no, today, if we want to play with FS 2020 or some other games. Because in 2025, we WILL Probably Be Able to run Fs 20something with an Xbox, or Ps something. PS : I used uppercase letters, like in the above video title.
  21. It's the same thing we've talked about the last 11 pages in this discussion. And spacedyemeerkat answered to your question page 1 Today, Linux is really simple and powerful. I do not understand why most people still want Windows or a Mac ! Today, I can run most gui Linux apps under Windows. Windows, another Linux distro in the future ? Who knows ! (11 years ago Linux was a cancer for M$) It's much easier to run most Windows apps under Linux ! I would enjoy FS 2020 under Linux ! But this will probably never happen. Secureboot ? Not for hackers. But good idea to shut doors for other OS as many users do not know how to disable it ! We will not be able to upgrade a VirtualBox W10 machine (no one mentioned this) to W11 - this could be interesting for testing purposes ! As Fs 2020 does not run on such a system, it's not a problem here.
  22. Secureboot can be activated or not ! No need to reinstall if your W10 boots in UEFI mode. You will need Secureboot on for W11 only ! If it only boots in csm compatibility mode, then Yes you can format your disk in gpt mode and reinstall W10 if you want to upgrade to W11 ! Or convert your msdos disk to gpt and disable CSM (if you know how to install W10 UEFI entry on a fresh fat32 partition) Csm ->msdos disks (4 primary partitions + max 3 secondary partitions per primary partition) Uefi -> gpt disks with a fat 32 partition containing UEFI in an EFI folder (Microsoft Folder in this EFI folder) (as many partitions as you want) We can fake secureboot, (just google how to), OR disable secureboot for using Linux or Hackintosh and simply reanable it to boot your futur WIndows 11 as W10 runs with SB on or off ! ! Edit : under Linux, I can start TPM under my terminal : sudo modprobe tpm. No need to start the UEFI bios mode More info about how Linux can help you with TPM HERE
  23. Archlinux is not supported in Secureboot. My main OS is Linux, Secureboot is disabled in my bios ! Microsoft is really kind to us : I can keep using Windows 10. I will probably format my WIndows partition when Windos 10 support will end. I will only loose FS 2020 !
