Finally got around to buying MSE Ireland so I've practically got the whole of the British Isles, apart from the Isle of Man, in photoreal scenery.I was trundling over Ireland in the Aerospool WT-9 Dynamic just to test out the scenery. -
Colour me most impressed! 🍻 Lovely job! Not sure if any piston-powered aircraft are suitable fro Lukla, but everyone knows turboprops are. This one's a LONG way from home but looks good. Made it!! Scenery in the distance looks a little blurry down the valley ahead as I've got the LOD set to the default 4.5... Service ceiling of a Pucara is reportedly 31900 feet, where's that big mountain near here?? Found it! It was quite a nice exercise IMO having to nursemaid the Pucara up past 29000 feet. She really does run out of steam as one would expect. However, whilst I did find Lukla on the way back... I never made the landing.. 🍻

With all the recent products being offered for free I told myself to stop procrastinating and go and get Flight Sim Jewel's freeware Hawaii together with George Keogh's airports. I'd put it off until now due to the size and multiple parts involved. In the end it was relatively painless to get the stuff installed so I wish I'd done it sooner! So, anyway. I decided to VFR around the islands in the good old Cessna 337 Skymaster a la Carenado. I took off from Princeville airport on Kauai with the idea being to fly around the island's shore and then progressing further down the island chain, flying around each island (I missed a couple out!) and landing when I had to. I wasn't going to "use up a whole SD card full of pictures" , but just wanted to enjoy the scenery and discover it as I went along. However, here's a few pics anyway. Sadly no takeoff pics as I was in awe. Passing by Barking Sands airport, Kauai. Off to O'ahu. Diamond Head below. Looking back at Honolulu Having gone around O'ahu, the cloud had eased a bit so I cut back across the island to head to Molokai and Lanai. Flying over Lanai, looking at Molokai in the distance. .. and here we are on approach to Hilo International on the Big Island with about 20% fuel remaining. Perhaps I should have taken more screenshots! I'd watched a Coast Guard C-130 take off from Kona on my way past (FSX NOTAM, I don't have much traffic enabled), and marvelled at the different terrain compared to little old Great Britain. Touchdown. Shutdown. I was going to investigate the mountain and Bradshaw Army Airfield, but the haze and the broken clouds conspired against me (risk of solid cumulo-granite). I didn't complete the flight in one sitting (burn the heretic!!), but I had a relaxing few hours total, glad that the 337 had an autopilot fitted so I could gawk out of the virtual windows. I must now go and buy (donate) for Hawaii plus for the seasonal changes and volcano action. Cheers.

Sky Lease Cargo getting ready at their hub in Miami International. Excellent repaint done courtesy of Enko (many thanks!) Not so sure about the species of trees and the buildings near the airport lol! Oh well with the big iron, its more about the plane and the tarmac anyway. (reasonably accurate airports).Do you know, I've not really posted thanks to Ray Smith: A lot of the freeware airports in my sim are by Ray. Enjoy! -

Visibility might be more than 20 miles... once you've got under that clag! Must try harder to get my landings on that centreline! (Full disclosure: I'm not a real pilot, least of all for the fine & mighty MD-11! 😄 ) Time for tea and biscuits!

This quirky, versatile little bugger is on sale from Dovetail on Steam (£5.99) so I thought what the heck. (Republic RC-3 Seabee) IRL there's nowhere to really play with it in the UK in floatplane mode, apart from Scotland of course! The Lake District "should" be ideal, but someone saw fit to slap a 10 mph limit on them all... Enjoy! To boldly go... although technically it's missing a "C"

Here she is in rainy Miami (it happens now and again ), waiting to depart early the next morning. Taxiing out - at least our departure runway is just to the left. However, note that you should always use a longer runway if one is available! Made it though.. Climbing out through the bad weather to catch a glimpse of the sunrise Approaching Cuba Out over the Caribbean.. Somewhat later in the journey, over the vast, relatively flat South American continent (flat compared the Andes!) Our route means that we will cross over the Andes SSW and fly down the west coast of Chile to reach Santiago. Descending for an almost straight in approach to RWY17L Fairly straight on the runway too! 😄 Just like finding a parking spot at the (empty!) mall. Shutdown and offload. Enjoy.

Thanks to the time and skills of AVSIM member Enko here she is: A Western Global MD-11, pictured at Shanghai. An excellent repaint. It seems patience pays off; I think I posted a request back in March or so. A polite bump up the forum each month and here we are. THANK YOU ENKO! According to Western Global's site, they have visited Shanghai, and also Perth. To that end, I going to take this big girl on a flight between the two places and of course post up some screenies too

Apologies to Ultravox and Midge Ure I tried out a long range flight with the Flight1 Islander today. I wish I'd taken more screenshots as I was able to go from Gatwick to Vienna with only minor interruptions IRL - thankfully the Islander has an autopilot and a GPS (nice rendition of the Bendix King KLN 90b).The weather was good and the sim behaved - no OOM dings despite taking off from UK2000 Gatwick and using VFR Real photoscenery in the UK. Lovley freeware LOWW too. Anyway, I was quite surprised to see that upon reaching Vienna the fuel tanks were still approx.1/3 full (see gauge at top right of screen). Surprising because the standard range for the BN-2 appears to be 600 to 800NM. I did only have pilot and co-pilot together with 300lb of baggage and full tanks though.. I should have pushed straight to Athens!! No external shots because I've not asked about a G-AXUD paintjob as yet..

FSX:SE Athens to Karachi - Getting there Part 1

So, at over 2000 nmi away from Athens, the Islander won't make it in one hop. I've said before I've no idea of the ferry range of the winning Islander in the London to Sydney Air Race 1969, and even if I knew the range, it would be a problem having the Flight1 BN-2 behaving as per a ferry configuration. The maximum range more or less gives us the destination of Diyarbakir Airport (LTCC) which is also a military base in south eastern Turkey. The weather is set to be good so off we go. Taxiing out at LGAV. Lined up and clear for takeoff. Hope we packed the sandwiches & refreshments! Settled into the cruise. 9-10000 feet altitude allows me to forget about the throttles and leave them wide open giving the required 20 inches of pressure. Flying past Mount Erciyes, I believe..😖 I would have thought there should have been snow at the summit.. (FSX NOTAM, perhaps the landclass would have displayed it had I been closer??) Approaching LTCC to join left downwind for RWY34 No mistaking this is an airbase.. Not a bad touchdown IMHO of course..😜 Ok then, ready for a Turkish bath.. Early morning departure from Mumbai, although it's a bit brighter by the time we've got her fired up and been given clearance. A busy morning, although we're the biggest in the queue.... ... we still have to wait our turn! Climbing away We will not manage to out run the Sun. Only Concorde could do that in the civilian world. Settled well into the cruise, here we are over Iran (I'm assuming we can overfly Iran these days? Anyhow, off to the right is Mount Damavand, and beyond is the Caspian Sea. A bit more sightseeing, but the cloud cover made it a little disappointing: In the middle of the opening cockpit window is Mount Ararat, Turkey. Just prior to beginning the descent to LFPG I believe this is Reims below us. Getting vectors for a visual approach to RWY27R The visibility is good underneath all this, honest! Yes. If only all the airports would move there centreline markings a few feet to the right.. There's no shots of taxiing to the cargo ramp or the usual unloading shot because FSX suffered a crash without warning, I got the "Blue spinning doughnut of waiting" - no OOM bleeps. At least I got to land and vacate the runway.

It's rather cloudy in Athens, but we'll soon leave that behind and below. Good, initial rate of climb - only 50 tons on board. Turning on to course. Powering into the night on mighty wings. A not inconsiderable tailwind component tonight. Lined up for a visual on RWY30R at OMDB. Well, the tower said visual, but they didn't specifically say NOT to have the ILS dialled in... :) Touchdown. I do believe I nailed that big girl right on the centreline for once! Time to check out, rest up and prepare for the next leg to Bangalore (Bengaluru), India Cheers.

FSX NOTAM: Just seeing if ILS Inspector would change the ICAO code of Jorge Chavez (Lima) from SPIM to SPJC and thought I may as well do a cargo flight to try it out for "real" . "Objects in mirror may actually be huge!" Turning on to course. In the cruise. It's going to be a night time landing. An atrocious landing. Well, a bounce followed 5 seconds or so later by the landing!! . There was a crosswind and a moment's inattention..and I cannot blame the F/O.. The firefighters were getting a bit anxious! Enjoy.

Not quite pushing the envelope, but still an interesting experiment for me anyway. Distance from Walvis Bay, Namibia to St. Helena according to google is 1216 nautical miles. Walvis Bay is a stop off point used by SAA Airlink when flying to St. Helena with their Embraer 195. St. Helena is one of those islands near that well known navigational waypoint MMFW (miles & miles of F@@@ water..). You may get to go around at the airport but it's doubtful you get to go back to the origin of your flight! Range of a Piaggio P180 Avanti is 1510 NM. Ok let's go then. I've not flown Hammer 66 for some time!! Dawn over FYWB. Goodbye Namibia. No land in view out of the windshield for some time. Up to FL410, playing with the big boys (not that there are many destined for St. Helena!) Time to empty at current fuel flow = 4 hours 25 minutes. Distance to St. Helena is 1033nmi, groundspeed is 387kt - we'll do it no worries! Beginning the descent for a visual approach to RWY20 - we are going to have a bit of weather! It's a bumpy ride lower down. The island's somewhere off to port. LAND HO! The proximity of the terrain certainly concentrates the mind. Phew! I know, I know, can't even hit the centreline in something far smaller than an MD-11 ! Right. Get the kettle on! Enjoy.

FSX:SE The show must go on: Miami to Montevideo

Even in the chaos, cargo flights continue This one is from KMIA to SUMU Uruguay. Pushing back. Taxiing out. Positive Rate! FSX NOTAM, I wish Sky Simulations would fix the gear door animations which appear to be missing in V2.2, but they told me that they couldn't reproduce the fault Turning on to an initial course and heading towards the ocean. Bye bye, Miami! Over Cuba Initial cruise altitude. FL350 I think. Later in the trip we'll head on up to FL410 when most of the fuel's been burned. I believe the mountain over the port wing is Pico Cristobal Colon, Colombia. Sunset over the South American continent. The bright lights of Montevideo off to starboard. We're being vectored for the ILS on RWY24 Approach is OK so far.. She's down... not bad. for one of my landings. Enjoy.- 2 replies

Time for N542KD to take a break (C-check I believe). Departing PHNL in the early hours, bound for Western Global's maintenance, reapair, overhaul facility at KSHV. FSX NOTAM - no idea why the BRAKES caption is on. Perhaps I'd hit the brakes when taking a screenshot! The sunrise beckons, as does many miles flying over the Pacific. At last, the west coast of the USA. Lovely afternoon at FL400 Being vectored for visual on RWY32 A bit hazy on the approach however! A firm touchdown, but still.. :) Taxiing to the MRO. The building looked bigger in the brochure! hehe. Ahh.. all her bits hanging out in the breeze. Enjoy. Now that Just Flight's VFR Real 3D Scotland is out, I have all the mainland UK in photoreal. Note that Prestwick & Edinburgh are the cut-down free versions, but I do have several of their payware airports! I decided to take a quick trip before my evening meal (you can see 17:51 on the clock - actual UK time during my flight). Not exactly the best weather for VFR across Scotland, but it got slightly better at Prestwick. The 114 is a pretty little GA 4 seater, and the view in the late sunshine was worthy of the £200 hamburger! 😉 Enjoy.

FSX:SE Just a couple of shots over Tennessee

Nothing special here, not that my screenshots are anything special (maybe a couple of exceptions occasionally IMO!). I decided to get around to applying the mod to the lovely KCFS Seabee to give it a GPS and radio stack. I just wanted to dust off the cobwebs in some terrain with hills and lakes, and not wanting to wait ages for UK VFR photoreal scenery to load in I went with USA - decent mesh, OK landclass. I think I forgot to lock the tailwheel for takeoff as the Mighty Tadpole wanted to exit stage left of the runway despite a bootfull of right rudder!- 3 replies

I believe some Fedex cargo departing Bengaluru goes to Mumbai, so here we are Taxiing out. There's a bit of haze and overcast, but not much of a factor seeing as we're IFR anyway (always?) Took the picture too soon; before the gear swing. ..and after gear retraction d'oh! Turning on to course. You can tell I've not got autoflight engaged.. :) Soon be above all this - a better rate of climb had been established by this point At cruise altitude, the Indian coastline can be seen at the horizon. Descending towards Mumbai. We'll be using the ILS for RWY9. Waiting to intercept the localiser. Great freeware VABB by the way. Approach is good.... ...but then I had to mess with the stick closer to the ground.. No centreline landing .. AGAIN I'm cursed! Then again, not only did we walk away, but the big girl is still intact and fully serviceable! They were judging me.. I tell you. They were laughing, I just know it.. Enjoy!

This is actually many, many miles from Perth having got "feet dry" over the NW corner of Australia. Lining up on the localiser for RWY03 Flaps the size of barn doors at 50 degrees. Offloading - still not sure if there's any rubber doggy doo on the manifest.. :) Thanks for looking.

I don't recall such products being on the manifest, but then again I did take off from Beijing, bound for Perth, and the Aussies do have a cracking sense of humour... Approaching HK at about FL390 IIRC. Ahh.. I'm going to miss the old Checkerboard approach... Far less dramatic approaches to be had here.. Turning away on a more southerly course. FSX:SE Hauling boxes across the Arabian Sea..

Dubai to Bangalore with FedEx. A very recognisable piece of architecture in the background. Ready to go. +VE rate, Gear Up! (FSX NOTAM: Main gear door animation missing. Was present in V2.0, but not V2.2 Sky Sim notified, but unable to reproduce as yet ). Climbing away across the desert before feet wet over the Arabian Sea. "Lonely... I'm Mr. Lonely... I have nobody for my own.." (with apologies to Mr. Vinton!) Feet dry over India. Descending for a visual RWY9 approach. VOBL is that pale area just to the right of the windscreen pillar. Impressive FSDG Bangalore scenery. I reckon my approach is OK too! (FSX NOTAM: Not sure why the runway lights don't show up..) Touchdown! Unloading - a pity the apron lights don't illuminate the jet! Highly illegal quadrotor shot of the airport (drones are what the military operate.. don't get me started!) . Worth the £8.99 for the airport scenery IMHO. Cheers. Point of order: Can the phrase Mad Dog be applied to the mighty MD-11 or is it just the preserve of the MD-80? Thanks. On the ramp at SPJC, Lima's main airport. Note the extension of the nose leg; she's not been fuelled or loaded yet. Reaching for the sky.. Snow on the Andes. Clouds over Cuba. Touchdown on RWY30, KMIA Taxiing to one of the west area cargo ramps. Cheers!

I've revisited the Victor and have been playing around with the cruise lift scalar and htail_incidence to get her to fly with a level attitude, even at not unreasonable military speeds (say 300kt at less than 10000 feet..) .... apart from in this pic when I gave her 100% N1 and pointed her heavenward. (The VSI was off the clock at 4000 ft/min so good ness knows what she was actually climbing at.)
