July 11, 200322 yr But they didn't so please give it a rest:), enough said about the subject, just accept or don't buy. Please...William
July 12, 200322 yr Well, frankly it has affected my buying decision. I am now going to wait until things have calmed down a lot before making a decsion to purchase or not. And I may not. I was completely turned off by the Captain Sim process for registering because frankly, the process was the least customer-centered I could possibly imagine, except for maybe mailing out the key codes by registered mail and requiring at least three forms of ID before taking possession. Despite my love for the three-holer, I bought the Iron Knuckles DC9 instead because Flight 1's system works and is instantaneous (at least it was for that plane). The real irony is that by not automating, the process is also the least friendly to the company as well, who has to spend time processing transactions and not providing customer service or working on the patch. I frankly don't understand these decisions - they leave me scratching my head. I usually think about buying the Capt. Sim plane near the end of the week - and don't because I'll likely pull out the credit card and have to wait until the following week to get the registration code. So, I don't do it. So, I think it fair to point out to the good folks here who put so much time and effort into this airplane that the registration process is likely causing them customers. Certainly the hard core fan will put up with most anything to get the plane - but for a much larger group of interested buyers, but not fanatics, this may be enough to tip the scales away from a purchase. Microsoft does not make money on the AVSIM crowd. They make it on the causual user who will likely fly the game for less than 30 hours. The analogy holds here - the good people at PMDG will get many more of the number of folks who would be potentially interested if they made the plane easier to buy. Thats all. Colin Ware
July 12, 200322 yr To be fair to PMDG the registration process is quite simple. You purchase the aircraft, download the files, install it, then email them a code. They email back the key, you add it and its done. All it takes is a few minutes of your time. :) I honestly cannot see how its driving sales away? If people aren't prepared to spend a few moments to have it up and running they're denying themselves a chance to have this remarkable peice of software. July 12, 200322 yr John,To be honest. I myself have a couple of friends who have made the decision of not to buy because of the registration system. I know I can live with it, because I have no major updates coming up on my system just now and so on, but I can certainly symphatize with people who think that by paying a certain amount of money, one gets the right to use the product at any circumstances. This is the way things used to be! Think about the (unlikely and unwanted) scenario where PMDG goes belly up in a couple of years, and the people who bought the aircraft (or a future product that has the same system) want to uninstall/install their legal copy. Who's gonna provide them the licensing codes then ?The average Joe doesn't neccessarily understand the motives behind a relatively complicated process to get what one has paid for. Let alone the fact that one has to go through a similar kind of process if updating the system. Like I said, it used to be like this: you go into a store, pick a product you want, you pay it and voil PPL(A)
July 12, 200322 yr Commercial Member At this point if I was a prospective buyer I wouldn't be worrying about the reg system but rather waiting to see how the patch goes over honesty. The registration is painless and if there are any snags, you havea 10 day period where the plane is still fully functional - it's not like Captain Sim where you'll be waiting a long time to use it...Ryan Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com

Who's gonna provide them the licensing codes then ?Yes this is one of the main reasons why this reg. system is so stupid . If you want to protect a product let the customers registered their products on free will and provide them with supports and updates. Give them something instead!!!! And you will see that every one wants to register their products.Lennart
July 12, 200322 yr Hmmm, I don't know. Its a rather moot point in regards to worrying about PMDG going belly up and the user not being able to install their product. If PSS closed no one could download their files, if Flight1 went closed you couldn't use your key as there wouldn't be a server to authenticate it. Sure, its a risk buying any downloable product online that needs authentication, but one needs to remember PMDG and others are established and not likely to run away anytime soon :) Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
July 13, 200322 yr Commercial Member Does anyone here seriously think that any of the reputable addon companies mentioned above would actually go out of business and stiff their customers by not releasing all their products as freeware or by providing the key generators for download? C'mon...Ryan Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
July 13, 200322 yr And may I ask what is so difficult in sending an email to PMDG for a key? After things calmed down here and I found myself needing another key, it was mailed to me very quick, sure the first few days they were a bit behind but now it's simple and fast. PMDG have taken notice and have a little something in store to help this process of reinstalling etc go smoother for everyone, I think it will be a welcome addition and help to ease some reservations some have. July 13, 200322 yr Of course there are no guarantees that won't happen, but I can't see it happening, can you?. :) Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
July 14, 200322 yr Can`t see it happen...well nothing is for shure in this world. And I don`t like guesswork around a product I have paid for. And I like to install my software without being dependant on a stupid phone line.Nothing wrong with that, is it?
July 14, 200322 yr Even if I see that the guys at PMDG are doing a great job in keeping us posted of the advance in bug fixing, I

July 15, 200322 yr Well, I don't think it will happen. If and only if, I believe that Robert will come through in the end. I have complete confidence in Robert and his intergity and that of his company. I have no worry about him or his products. I think personally, although I never met him, he sounds like a real nice guy and professional in every aspect of his dealing with us here. That goes the same for his staff. He really gone out of his way for me in excellent customer service, I cannot say the same about other FS companies out there.Charles
July 15, 200322 yr Maybe it's me or maybe it's because I have most of the add-on jets available and have gone through initial release woes that I just sit back and read through the forums every day and see people really upset over how something they purchased is not working particulary well or, when the developers don't deliver on time as promised (SSW for instance). But, the way that I look at it is that they will resolve the issues in a timely and effective manner as the flightsim community isn't particulary huge compared to relative population in that if PMDG wants to effectively maximize their ROI (return on investment)it is in their best interest to quickly release any patches/fixes.Just relax and it will happen. Just my $.02CheersRichard Rice
