Suggestion for the moderators

Featured Replies

Hi All,This forum is one of the most active of all Vatsim forums. It shows the vast interest for PMDG aircrafts. On the flip side the forum is now crowded with a large variety of posts which could easily be re-grouped in sub-forums to add clarity. For example:-- Discussions and suggestions about upgrades -- Liveries and flight models-- Flight technicals-- Navaids, charts and terminal proceduresThis list is not exhaustive by any means.Would it make sense to create sub-forums as described above? I believe that redundant posts relating to topics already discussed could be minimized if some kind of organization by main subjects is implementedMichael

Could be a good Idea. This is not a VATSIM forum, but an AVSIM Forum :-aolJason

Hi Jason,Thanks for the correcting my mistake and apologies to all readers.Michael

I think sub categories would be an excellent idea. Mike M.KDFW

I love the idea. Best,Bruno Francescoli.

I think sub sandwiches would be an even better idea. :-hah

Think it's a great idea! But, unfortunately I don't think it would work without a huge increase of the workload for the moderators moving all posts to the right sub sandwiches/folders.Look at the MS FS forum and the tips and trix sub folder.People will post in the first forum they'll reach because they think it will be seen there and because it's easy.Just my two

I'm not a big fan of the idea. You just end up with one dominant category and relatively in-active sub-categories. Then people get confused as to what is and what is not off-topic for the sub categories.Unless the message traffic is so high it must be done (which it is not IMO), stick to one category. Regards.Ernie.

Hi All,First I was conforted in my idea when I read the positive replies. Then came 2 posts suggesting that users may or may not be disciplined enough to post messages in the right categories and that it can be a painstaking work for the moderators to put old messages in sub categories. While these remarks are spot on there surely are solutions. Users can be educated and the best education is to see the benefits of such re-organization: less duplication of questions, easier browsing for solutions of problems already posted and solved, quicker browsing for those users less intersted in one or the other topic and who want to go straight to the sub-category of interest. A bit of goodwill and cooperation will equal to self discipline and a lot more fun going through this forum. As to the extra work for the moderators I can offer time to do the sorting should it be necessary.Well, I guess it is now up to the PMDG brasses to decide. Hoping they prefer well structured and finders friendly forum rather than the actual form which is slowly but surely getting a nice jungle.Michael

Dear Michael-thanks for the suggestion. I actually like it myself. You cannot ever completely absolve the forums from question duplication, but it will certainly help in reducing the multitude of repeat posts that ask about things constantly.I am not sure about the timeframe of implementation (if, indeed, AVSim agrees with us that it's a good idea), but we will move towards that solution when our schedule frees up a bit (we're REALLY pushing for the second service update right now). How's that for a PMDG brass answer? ;-)

Hi,Thanks for the reply. Totally agree that it is not the right time and you have more important things to attend to. Should you need some help later to perform some sorting or whatever let me know.and yes... that was a PMDG brass reply as we like them!Michael
