November 21, 200322 yr I made a terrible and costly mistake of buying this piece of software. This is way too complicated for my simple mind so I will consign it to the backup disk for a time when I have so little to do that I might RTFM.Back to the default aircraft. At least I can simply load and take off without having to spend half a lifetime reading the manual.I should have known better as I can't even programme a video recorder. Andy Brockbank
November 21, 200322 yr Um, you don't have to program everything, you can taxi, takeoff, land etc. without programming the FMC just like the default planes.
November 21, 200322 yr Yes it was a mistake to buy this complex addon. After SU-2 is released, it will only get more complex. There is something you can do about it though, and when you programme the FMC for the first time, or perform a CAT III ILS by hand for the first time-you'll understand why people actually make the time and put in the effort the RTFM!And besides, you read the manual for the 737NG and you'll be pretty proficient at any other Boeing too.The choice is yours buddy, make a good one.JohnP 2.53 GHZ512 RAMWINXPGFORCE 4 128MB Ti4600http://homepage.eircom.net/~eamonnmca/images/logo_ba.JPGwww.bavirtual.co.uk Senior Captain Simflight.com Staff Reviewerhttp://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicator/status.php?id=815145;indicator=BAV01
November 21, 200322 yr Hi,May I do a suggestion? Buy this flight simulator:http://www.eagames.com/official/nfs/hotpur...sshots/home.jspVery simple to use, no manuals and you still fly. November 21, 200322 yr Andy, I thought the same when I picked up PMDG's original 777, but after beating my head against the wall for a while, I learned.Everything is about logic and repetition. The first time it will take a couple of hours, second time you'll shave off a few minutes, 30'th time you'll be zooming through it.The absolute key is to print out the checklists, go through things slowly and step by step pausing and making sure you know WHY you are doing something. I didn't know what a PACK was when I started, but after a little digging, well gee, it's just an air conditioner that provides cool air, and it just so happens that the air is required to get the engines spinning so you can start them up, hence why you need bleed air from the packs to get the engines to start...Stick with it for a while before you "pack" it in, it is worth it in the end when you can sit there and take someone else's sim and just magically start it up because you know stuff from the last sim. ;) There is stuff you may never learn or understand, but a lot of it just becomes common sense and second nature. You do not need to run things at 100% knowledge to be able to use them. Matter of fact by learning just some of the Autopilot's basics, you can fly the plane completely hands off except for pulling back at takeoff and flaring at landing.I suspect you'd be shocked to find out how little some of us "experts" really know }(Ray
November 21, 200322 yr Andy,As a shortcut to having to read all the manuals you might also try the excellent hands-on tutorial that you can find in the AVSIM library; the filename is '737tngadvtut.zip'. This leads you through an entire flight step-by-step.And you'll also find that there are many people on this forum willing to help! Also, what someone else said before in this thread is true:, you CAN just takeoff and handfly her all the way-she's quite docile.Best,Martijn
November 21, 200322 yr All I know is I can't wait to make this "mistake"! Bring on SU2 so I can buy this airplane!!(As I wait for the purchase day to arrive, I have been making prepartions: Spending extra time with the wife n kids, taking pictures of them so I won't forget what they look like. Making arrangements with my employer for a leave of absence cause when I get it, nothing else will matter! muhahahaha!)Just kidding of course. But I am sooo looking forward to this addon!Oops! Forgot to add my name:Andy
November 22, 200322 yr Ahhh.......good one Andy.....real good. You actually had everyone here fooled.Except me of course.....:-) Now stop it! Go fly the darn plane.BTW, just incase anyone here still believes Andy, let me inform you that he has mastered both the DF737 AND the PIC767.:-jumpy
November 22, 200322 yr Author Who the heck are you?I think you must have the wrong person.Do you think I would be so exasperated with this if I had experience with another similar payware (or freeware) addon?Let me assure you I am challenged by this aircraft but with the genuine support and suggestions shown here I will give it another go.I have seen you, Anthony, insert your wisdom into threads and generally make people who are struggling with something feel like complete morons.Andy B Andy Brockbank

November 22, 200322 yr Hey Andy, Just wanted to pop in and say a few words. I felt the exact way when first loading up PIC 767. I was like "what the hell do I do with this FMC?" lol. you should have seen me trying to take the damn thing off! CRASH ugh. Took me a while but a choose to systematically learn the various systems involved, one by one starting with FMC programming. I can tell you the excitement I felt doing my first ILS approach, I felt so proud but yet still in the realm of ignorance. Learning is half the fun. You can also fly this aircraft without the FMC while you tackle other aspects like the A/P. When you have questions please feel free to ask, nothing is dumb, and many here will be more than glad to lend you a hand. Ask away ;)[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. November 22, 200322 yr Oh this is rich........I still can't sotp laughing.:-jumpy Ok.....here goes:Mr. Moron.....who likes flying across the Pacific without proper fuel management. The one thing I would advise is Don't try this with the PMDG NG. :-jumpy :-jumpy Oh.....this is so funny.>>>>and many here will be more than glad to lend you a hand. Ask away ;)<<<
