November 25, 200322 yr How are PMDG going to organise the distribution of the SU2 patch to registered customers? It would be nice if PMDG took a page out of Real Air Simulations (virtual) book and maybe considered emailing each customer (in groups of 30-40?) with a URL rather than us having to rely on checking forums and then finding that we cannot download the patch because the server cannot cope with the extra traffic (as happens with many less organised companies;-)Your comments would be appreciated.Best WishesAdam Moore
November 26, 200322 yr Author Well it would be nice to know in advance rather than having to wait. And wait. And wait some more. It's all very well teasing customers with SU2 this and SU2 that but it would be nice to inform them at least how they are expected to upgrade to this new super-duper patch which hasn't been released yet.So PMDG how will it be delivered? The PSS way? ie stick em up on a website and let the customers find out for themselves via a forum...Or via email?Simple question requiring a simple quick response.ThanksAdam Moore
November 26, 200322 yr Not trying to be cheeky, but what does it matter to have this knowledge in advance? Ok, if a "RealAir"-notify-by-e-mail system was to be used one wouldn /Tord Hoppe, Sweden
November 26, 200322 yr I don't have a browser window open all day, and I don't want or have the time to push F5 all the time, but I do have my email program check for new mail every half hour...to me there is a difference.Mikkel
November 26, 200322 yr Author I think it matters because some customers (like myself) are most likely unable to check these forums 24/7 for availability of updates.Clicking "F5" in your browser is OK if you have an idea of a release date but PMDG have given no indication of a date, time etc for release of this patch (for good reason I agree) so it would be nice for customers of their super 737NG to know where they're likely to be able to update it from. They have all our email addresses so why not mail us when the time comes with a URL for the download? Sending these is "batches" would avoid server overload and keep all (or most)of us happy.RegardsAdam MooreEDIT: As Mikkel points out - email is the most direct route to us - their customers. Not a link posted somewhere on their (somewhat confusingly designed) website.
November 26, 200322 yr AdamIf you don`t have time to check the forum for the update how could you have time to check your email? Are you also willing to volunteer to be in the last group to recieve the update url as you are making such a big deal out of it?None of this is making any sense to me except that you are being a bit too self-involved and have`nt made the leap to broadband.I`m sure PMDG has already decided how to distribute the update in the most effective way that suits their needs so relax you will get it.Ted
November 26, 200322 yr Valid points from both you guys. I agree that the e-mail notification done by RealAir was very nice and well worth using. I guess I /Tord Hoppe, Sweden
November 26, 200322 yr Because if you are unaware of it, you can have your email program check for new mail every xx min. automatically, while I'm either out or doing my work.I don't care if I'm in the last group, and this is getting way out of control...it's not a gripe, it's a question about how they plan on releasing the information about the update. Please don't jump to any conclusions about what kind of web connection people have, you come off as a person that look down on people who might not either have the money of the possibility to have broadband, remember that not all people who frequent this forum is fortunate enough to have broadband. I myself am lucky enough to have a T1 line so I won't have any problems downloading the update, but like I said earlier it's a question about how the release the information not the update.Mikkel
November 26, 200322 yr MikkelReread my post.Is it addressed to Mikkel/Paragon?I think that the idea of batch emailings for such a long awaited update and a large user base is absurd and to nag PMDG about is as well.Let them get it finished and out to us as they see fit without the need to accomodate one or two users that might expect a personal touch.Just my take on it old boy nothing personal.Ted
November 26, 200322 yr Okay, at the risk of just adding fuel to the fire here's what I was asking.I was just asking the PMDG team how they plan on announcing their update, not when it's released and I'm not asking for special treatment. I was asking this question because I'm unfamiliar with how the previous update was announced.I think people need to calm down here, all of a sudden it's "rude" to ask questions, even simple ones, about the update...I'm mean they can answer if they want/have the information, or they can choose not to. I don't care, because I know it will be out eventually...Mikkel
November 26, 200322 yr Hi all,While I would agree that RealAir has handled this quite well, my worry is that setting up such a delivery system from scratch now-creating the personalized emails (passwords!) and the associated server download validations-itself would need developing and thorough testing, which would demand even more time and effort from PMDG resources. I'm sure the added complexity could delay the release by weeks. We would probably keep getting impatient posts in this forum (note that Realair do not have a forum of their own), add to this people getting worried that they're not getting their emails (changed providers), emails bouncing due to spamblockers etc. It could turn out to cause a lot of trouble for a minor gain in convenience.Just my two cents,Best,Martijn
November 26, 200322 yr Author This is getting extremely silly!I run a small record label and online radio station and within seconds I can configure my email software (Outlook Express - nothing fancy) to send a mass mailout to my mailing list subscribers. Simple as that.I have broadband (2MB) here at home and a T1 connection at my office. This doesn't mean however that I can spend all day refreshing pages awaiting an update. Sending update information via email would be by far the most efficient and professional way of communicating with customers.PMDG have produced a superb product and this forum is one of most friendly and knowledgeable I have visited within the Flight Sim community reflecting their obvious wish to continue to help and advise customers on issues regarding their purchases. An email alerting customers to the much-hyped SU2 patch would be the icing on the cake.RegardsAdam Moore
