Flying the NG exclusivly from the VC

Featured Replies

Hi,I have just started to fly the NG from the VC only, and I am loving it, feels loads more realistic. There is one thing I would like though, the FMC is obscured from view in the VC, could a clickspot be added to bring the FMC up in a window?Other than that, its great to fly from the VC.CheersDan.

Dan, I think the whole feeling of realism, as you have described, would be removed if you could "pop up" the FMC. Your best bet for even more realism, is to get yourself Active Camera for FS2004. You can then move your head around the cockpit, change seats to the 1st officers chair, walk through the cabin, and even do your pre flight walk around.then you have no need for any pop ups and you can even then use both FMC's to your liking.

Just to build on the previous comment, you can also preset views with Active Camera, so I have a view that feels like the pilot has leaned over to the right a bit and forward. This gives you a closeup view of the FMC as well as the ability to see the map display.

I have AC, but find it a bit of a pain "driving" the camera around just to look at the FMC.I like the idea of these preset views though, didnt realise AC could do that.Is it simple to do?, I guess I need to revisit the AC manual again.Dan.

Dan,I will try to email you my AC preset files for the 600 & 800 tonight. You can also set up your own, position your view in the VC, to save it press ctrl+alt+# (1, 2, 3, etc), and make sure to click on options, AC, save view as.This should do it.John

Can't you simply hit SHIFT 6 to bring it up? Not sure do nto use VC too often myself. Adding a gauge might be possible future wise though depending, I think it's a good idea..Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J. You can bring an FMC popup using shift-6, or using the views menuAlso, if you have the PMDG 737-800/900 Upgrade installed, you can assign a key to "hide yoke" in the PMDG key assignment menu. This will allow you to have the yoke disappear and appear at will :)Best,Vin ScimonePMDGwww.precisionmanuals.comhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/devteam.jpg

Preset views are set in Active Camera using (I think) Ctrl+Alt+1,2,3...0Where 1,2,3...0 is a number that you assign. Then, Ctrl+1,2,3...0 will bring up the view. The only quirk is that pushing the keys to set the view causes the menu bar to come up in full screen mode. Another push of Alt should take you back to the flight. To take this one step further, I have defined all the views that I use often and assigned the values to the hat switch on my joystick. I then use the mouse for panning and the joystick to quickly access preset views.Hope this helps!

If I may ask, what zoom/height settings do you use when flying the NG in VC ? And do you use the same settings for taxi/takeoff/cruise as for the landing view ?Just wondering, I love to fly the NG in virtual cockpit but I find ity difficult to find the most realistic settings.GreetingsTimon.

I'll post my config when I get home from work tonight. I only have one for the -800 right now, but I'll give you what I've got.

For what it's worth, here is my active camera config for the -800. It works for free, but I'd love to see other people's configs as well.

Hi Timon,I generelly use the zoom setting of 0.62 in VC, this seems to give the most realistic view, plus it keeps all the main instruments in view.I find that 0.62 works very well for almost all VC'sI have only really started flying it "VC only", but its really, really good. Now, if there was a way to "fix" the VC zoom to 0.62 I would be a happy man.Jeff.....thanks for the filesDan.

Speaking about preset views in AC, does someone know if there's a way to have a specific config of previews load automatically every time so you don't have to load your config file manually for every flight?
