The TO/GA button

Featured Replies

Hello, this is a thing I have always wondered; where is the TO/GA button on the real 737NG? I doubt that it is a screw that pilots press like we do on the PMDG, or is it? :(Thanks,Robin Bilgilhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpg

They are located on the throttle levers. Have a look in the virtual cockpit and you'll see them as two big black knobs located more or less in the middle of each lever.Regards,Markus

I have replyed to this a few times before but so it is once again fresh in a few minds- The way that the throttle quadrant is modelled in 2D, with it's various gauge bitmaps for the throttle levers etc prohibits placement of the TOGA switches where they are in real life. Basically it's impossible in 2D. Even if one somehow could get it to work they reside in a position that one can only see if looking down upon not straight ahead. Sure one can place a fake bitmap maybe making the throttle quadrant (bottom area) larger but then one has to weigh this vs. an easy to click hidden switch on the main 2D panel without the need to have the throttle panel showing for takeoff or when on final for a go-around since it limits the view and opeing a panel just to TOGA is not good respoce time when it's needed most. For realsim I have suggested that folks use their actual throttle-joystick mapping to a control for TOGA as this replicates RL better. Be assured, if the TOGA could have been placed in the correct spot it would have..Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J. Hi Randy,I wanted to do this same thing yesterday, but for the life of me nothing would activate the TO/GA function. Do you have any mapping buttons for this? I have one spare button on my CHProducts Yoke.ThanksBob

Hi BobYou can easily assign a button on your CHProducts yoke to activate the PMDG 737NG TO/GA function (as I have) if you've got a registered copy of Peter Dowson's FSUIPC interface module. With FSUIPC you can go to its Buttons facilities page, where you can program the CHProducts yoke button to perform key press actions, and have it generate the key combination that's your PMDG assignment for the MCP Set TOGA function .... which is assigned as Ctrl+Shft+G in the defalt PMDG 737NG - Keyboard Assignments, unless you've changed it. OK?Enjoy!!Michael DayOttawa, Canada

Hi Michael Thanks for your reply, I am on Pete's beta team, so you know I have a registered version of FSUIPC. However the button that I was going to use did respond to the TO/GA function. I think I need to tweak around some more. The button I was going to use on my CHProducts Yoke is the button on the right front side of the yoke, some people may use this button as a "trigger" but I want to use it for the TO/GA activation. If you have any ideas on how to make it work please send them. Thanks AgainBob JohnsonDenver

If you look closely at the following picture, just below the L/H throttle lever you will see a black button. On the side of the throttle lever, there is a sticker which is labelled AUTO TAKE OFF OR GO AROUND.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96797.jpgHope this helps clear it up a little more.Jeremy Soulsby

Very nice picture. How did you get it? Did you make it yourself?Dirk

You see. IRL there is an "IDLE" screw and a "CUTOFF" screw! ;-) CheersThomas

Sorry to ask what may be an obvious question to experienced simmers, but doesn't advancing the throttle levers to full on a joystick or holding down F1 until full throttle is reached,do the same thing as pressing the TOGA screw ?On a very different subject and something I've been asked by non-aviation types, when did the aero industry stop using the terms "starboard" and "port" and start using the more sensible left and right ? I presume it was for safety reasons that they changed ?

Dave,In response to your first question - yes, in part. Advancing the throttles manually will open the throttles to the preset N1 value. To engage TO/GA mode, one must first have armed the A/T (Auto-Throttle). And you don't use F1 - that'll bring them back to idle. Try F4 if your looking for a power increase!Cheers,Jeremy Soulsby

Jeremy,Thanks - sorry I meant F4. I didn't know that !! Are you saying that if I arm A/T first, then advance the throttles to full - it will select TO/GA ?

Sorry Dave,I should have been clearer initially. As well as arming the A/T, you must then click on the top left screw of the MCP on the PMDG 737NG. As has been said earlier in this post, in real life, you engage TO/GA by pressing the button in the previously posted picture of the NG throttle quadrant, that is of course after arming the A/T!Cheers,Jeremy Soulsby.

Jeremy,Thanks - let's rewind !! I am aware of the screw on the MCP - what I wanted to know was if pressing this was the same as throttling right up using the levers or F4 (assuming you have engaged the a/t that is). For example, does it tell the FMC something that using the throttle levers up doesn't.regards
