Scratch pad? Who can help make this?

Featured Replies

If you have seen the IITV DVD, it is in the e-commerce section on PMDG's site, you have seen how the F.O had on his "clip board" an area to scratch down several peices of info, like clearance, squawk, initial climb, zfw or PLW or tons of other information. I know I can take a legal pad or note pad and do the same thing. But, after using a modified checklist, found somewhere on avsim, that has blanks for information that is necessary to review and remember like the V speeds, flaps, QNH, derated thrust and other vital checklist info, I thought it would be great to have such a scratch pad like the F.O on the DVD. His was branded "Virgin" and had several points and blanks and squares for required information. Anytime, anytime, he received any instruction either from the Captain or ATC he scribbled it down into an appropriate slot.Would anybody be interested in helping me recreate this and maybe get it up to AVSIM's library?ThanksWilson HinesMy Blog: http://www.wilsonhines.com --------------------------------------http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/837438/3074.png

from watching it myself if just looked like he wrote down a number on the sheet, it wasnt in a specific box, like the squawk code he just wrote it down anywhere. correct me if im wrong but i dont think there is a formatted sheet for writing that information in

Wilson,I am not sure if he still frequents these forums anymore, but one of the PMDG beta testers, Jon Bunting, is a captain on 747 with Virgin Atlantic. I have met him, he is a very nice and down to earth kind of guy, and I am sure if you were to try and contact him, he may be able to help with some info that you need.I also have the ITVV DVD that you talking about, and have also noticed that the co-pilot scribbled some info down each time it was given to him. If you can get something like this on AVSIM, I will certainly download it.Cheers,

I will give Jon a shout, if able. Even if there isn't anything like what I am talking about on the video, I want to format such an project. I think I would find it very handy. Since starting to use FS Flight Keeper I have also printed out my fuel and weight planning sheets and writing in my values as I add them up on my calculator for each flight. So each flight I actually have a sheet for the weights & fuel and I have a sheet for the abrieviated checklist and finally I have a peice of paper, usually just a 5X11 sheet with scribble like the sqk, init alt, ZFW, ATC route text, and all sorts of needed information. OBTW, that abbreviated checklist with the "write in" blanks that I mentioned before can be found here: http://wilsonhines.com/files/pmdg_747_400_checklist.pdf I can't find it on avsim and I can't remember how I received it. I wish it was more complete, but with the write in blanks. If you will remember PMFlightplanner, whatever happened to that, you could make a flight package; that is the idea of what I peice together now.I take those three peices and make a file that I put in my PMDG labled 3-ring binder for my manual. I keep the last 10 flights or so. I find the information handy, because I may be doing my math and it doesn't come up right and I can refer back to a similiar flight to see what I had down. It works great. I just wish and I am going to work on it, I had a more uniform and presentable package. Instead of two different PDF files to print out and a blank 5X11, something more sorted and uniform.I hope I make sense. Anyway, off to do some work on my truck. All the flying I can take today has been accomplished :)Wilson HinesMy Blog: http://www.wilsonhines.com --------------------------------------http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/837438/3074.png

Wilson,I have watched the same DVD as you have. The "Virgin" branded paper with all the boxes and numbers on it that the FO is presenting to us during the flight, was the 747-400 Takeoff performer. This performer is not filled out on the airplane. It is done prior to departure, with the help of the ATIS information and several tables. Most of these tables can actually be found in the takeoff-section of the PMDG's manual for the 747-400. I have tried to find a copy of a performer myself, but I have not succeded. It was a good and orderly way of collecting and checking the takeoff data. The scratch pad he uses during the flight is a blank one I assume. I like that video and I have seen it at least 30 times :DIf you get hold of a copy of a performer for the 747-400, please let me know.:-) Regards,RaymondNorway

I think I am just going to develop one in MS Word and PDF and upload it to AVSIM. It may take a couple days as I am fairly well tied up until Monday. As far as the topcat, that is electronic, which is fine. I like doing things the real way when I can and quite frankly I like scribbling with my pen the old fashioned way :)Wilson HinesMy Blog: http://www.wilsonhines.com --------------------------------------http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/837438/3074.png

Hello guys - I made a sheet in Excel (as in just a sheet to fill in) exactly like Virgin's one on the DVD, except I put the Qantas logo instead, although I've got no idea what their sheet looks like. I'll upload to Avsim if you're interested. I think I can attach it to this post - oh yes I can, so I'll do that, but there must be a sort of catch with that. Hope it's okay to do taht!Seeing as in it's in Excel you can chnage it as you want.CheersRudy

Ramon Kimmerling made a set for the LDS 76, if you own that product you can find a PDF here: http://www.leveldsim.com/forums/forum_post...p?TID=5600&PN=1Not sure if these were intended for public consumption, so I'm linking to the private forum thread. I'll see if I can get permission to post it here directly.I'm sure the format would work for the 744 too.-Lee Barberhttp://home.nc.rr.com/uniuniunium/dvasig.jpg

Christian, let me clarify myself. I think I was a bit harsh and what I said wasn't actually representative of the way I feel. I think the TOPCAT is a great product and I use it. I also print out the data it gives me. But, I still need the document described above. I hope that clears that mud up :)Wilson HinesMy Blog: http://www.wilsonhines.com --------------------------------------http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/837438/3074.png

Rudy! This is great. There are a copule things on it I would like to tweak if you don't mind, but this is a fabulous start. Let me get back from church in the afternoon tomorrow and really check this out and compare it. I will post up some suggestions, if any. Thanks again,Wilson HinesMy Blog: http://www.wilsonhines.com --------------------------------------http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/837438/3074.png

Hi WilsonThought Andrew/Jane Rachel Whittaker would have stepped in here, I see he's still on the Beta team. Thought I read on the pmdg temporary forum that he flies for Virgin Atlantic.Maybe one of the team would could contact him for you?John

I have HER on my MSN and I have HER private e-mail address. I will give HER a shout. There is a story behind the whole Andrew deal and I think calling her a him is kinda nuts. The reason she is called Andrew on certian documentation is when working for ATARI they chose to use a male name because they were afraid people wouldn't take her as serious. So, please respect 20 years of time differential.ThanksWilson HinesMy Blog: http://www.wilsonhines.com --------------------------------------http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/837438/3074.png
