Captains,Some of you may now be running Microsoft's new Vista operating system. As PMDG's own guinea pig (I've been running it since release day), I thought I'd create a FAQ for it on PMDG Ops.http://ops.precisionmanuals.com/wiki/PMDG_Windows_Vista_FAQWe've received a few support requests about the CD version not installing correctly - the fix for that is in there...

Ryan, as you know I was thinking of installing PMDG in vista.Instead I simply launched it from vista. It placed the sims icon on the desktop of vista, clicked it and fs9 started, no problem. As a side note. I decided to look at the vista games. When I opened the games dialog box I noticed a thumbnail of fs9's metal box that it sold in. I clicked it and fs9 launched.

Yeah, the Games Explorer is Vista's new central hub for launching and managing games. It's pretty cool. Every new game that comes out now should place itself in there and have box art etc...

Ryan:Great idea! Any experience with an ASUS SLI and Intel's dual core 2? I thinking of upgrading my board and add a second e-GForce 7950 card with a couple of Mb of DDR2 under Vista Business Edition?Ron McLeod - CYEG

>Ron,>>I'd wait until the driver situation is resolved. The Nvidia>drivers are extremely bad at the moment... I get less than>half the FPS in Vista that I do in XP.Thanks for the 'heads up' on that one, Ryan. I think there's a few of us that could get caught with the DX10 issue if there is no firm-ware upgrade? If that's possible. :(

As I know it doesn't matter. Vista's DirectX 10 has DirectX 9 set embedded, to work with old DX9 graphics processors.

Hello I have the 747 PMDG on CD and I do not manage to install it under Vista. I carried out well the procedure indicated in the FAQ Vista, while launching Setup.exe as an administrator and it does not occur anything. No error, no message, the program stop and do nothing.Vista French integral version.PMDG 747 French version CD aerosoftL-M

I have FSX as well with graphics turned up quite high the graphics in FSX are very impressive, but can be choppy in heavy airport situations. Thus, the idea of using a SLI capable board with dual core. Ryan is probably quite correct in suggesting some hesitation in waiting for new drivers, (maybe a firmware upgrade) etc. ~`Ron CYEG:-halo

Dual core is something that has to be programmed into the application, you won't get any increase simply by having that kind of CPU. FSX at present uses very minimal multithreading on the 2nd and higher cores.2. SLI is basically the same thing. It benefits some games a lot more than others. FSX is not one of these games because it is CPU limited and doesn't rely on the GPU for most of its processing the way other games do. The only boost you'll see from SLI in a CPU limited game is the ability to run higher levels of AA and AF because that's all stuff that's done internally inside the video card's GPU without any reliance on the rest of the PC.3. Not sure what you're referring to with firmware upgrades here... BIOS updates for video cards are extremely rare, I've never performed one in 10 years of having 3D cards.
