June 21, 200718 yr This handbook has been around awhile; however, the latest edition just came out and it's a good read and not difficult to follow (lots of examples and pictures). Topics include arrivals, departures, approaches, etc.; also, digital navigation databases (just overview - not the details).http://www.faa.gov/library/manuals/aviatio...dures_handbook/ Dan Downs KCRP

June 22, 200718 yr This newer publication (I bought the hard copy on Amazon) is actually an expanding sequel to the FAA Instrument Flying Handbook and for someone new to IFR you need both. As an example, not all approach plate interpretation is in the lastest edition which assumes the reader is familiar with them. References are made to the Flying Handbook. It is a great expansion in going from initial procedures to those covering larger aircraft including differences among the various airline certification operating certifications (part 135, 91, etc.).It also gets into updated procedures based on newer technology not used when the earlier version came out.It is a great reading to follow up on the basics.
