Hands on V2 today

Featured Replies

Well i managed to get in the seat at the conference and give the V2 a quick spin around the block. Now I have no idea how close to a finished product this was but I do have a couple of initial observations. The two biggest changes evident were the VC which appears to be fully clickable and really stunning for a VC if you're into them. Can't say I've ever seen a better one. The externals really are stunning as well, there's quite a bit if detail as is evident in the video. The flight model felt solid, very much like V1. One area that I was really hoping to see tweaked but did not was the 2D panel. For the most part it is almost identical to V1 except for some color changes in the EICAS diplays. I hope that they can sharpen that up a bit before release. The FMC looked to be more or less identical to the original however there didnt't appear to be any sids or stars loaded, checked at both KLAX and KDEN. Do not construe this as anything more than an initial try at a pre-release state. All in all though, It looks like we're in for a treat and we get our trusty 767 back in FS9 very soon now. You didn't notice the full overhead, or the new pedestal with separate ILS receiver, dual comms and audio panel? Or the Winds entry in the FMC, or the smooth GDI+ CRTs, or any of the new systems modelling? There's a lot more besides that.Wade

No sorry Wade Unfortunately I didn't at the time but I was in a loud crowded room of people on unfamiliar controls and felt a bit rushed to be sure. I have no doubt there was a lot I didn't notice yet. I was just thrilled to actually get to sit at for a few minutes. It's really is looking top notch, and I certainly didn't mean to give the impression that there wasn't much more there. Everyone I talked to there was very enthusiastic about the product, you'll have another winner here to be sure. But just like the original, it'll take a lot of stick time for all the features to be realized. Jay Eklund - Pilot 4332VP Denver Operationshttp://www.pacificwestairways.com

I appreciate the report. I just wanted to let you know that there's a LOT of new features that you didn't see :-)Regards,Wade

Wade,Congrats on what looks to be a "MUST HAVE," for any serious flight sim or airline enthusiast, or even just 767 fans in general. After watching the video, I can say that I really am STOKED about V2. And yes, I did notice the overhead! In fact, I paused my video just to check it out. Heck, you guys even included a couple of HFs!. . .very nice! So nice in fact, I had to run a quick comparison with V1. I actually dusted off my FS2002 CD and went to work.My first impression was how nice I remembered the V1 2D panel to be. It still has the photo quality feel that I always appreciated ever since my first installation. However, JayBird's message brought to light the same thing that apparently still appears with V2. At least on the 2D panel, the ADI, ND, and EFIS are just plain hard to read. So, please take this as an interest to see the BEST product out there. . .I have to ask. Is there anyway to possibly clear up those 2D screens in V2?Anyway, I took V1 through a complete startup from a "dark," cockpit, a short circuit hop, to a complete shutdown. . .all with the original default sounds. Sure, the old sounds could be better. . .but V1 still kicks it.Wade, last thing I have to ask. Have any real life 76 pilots given any feedback? Even in development, I'm interested to hear how V2 is comparing to the real "enchelada?"And JayBird, you are one LUCKY dude! Can you please tell us what kind of control rig they had V2 hooked up too? How were the sounds? Did you get to use the FMC? I guess the most important thing of all. . .how was the immersion level? Common man, you are apparently one of the few sim pilots outside the developers to actually fly this thing. Please tell us more!Overall guys, I've watched the video now more than several times. LDS 767-300 looks good enough to almost DEMAND a multiple screen setup. I think it's time that those of us on the edge are gonna have to get off the fence and start planning for a few additional screens. Anyone else thinkin the same?

Hi,We are working with the help of two 767 pilots, and also with a 767 engineer. That's also very important to have an enginereer because we can't simulate the deep complexity of the system logics without his help and views on the aircraft system schematics. And after a system is coded in our sim, these guys can test the logic in the real one and compare ;-)We have also the pleasure to have a lot of other very active beta-testers, some have access to real 767 Level-D simulators and make also a big work there. The fact that we planned to release "only" a 767-300 and not 767-200,767-300ER,757 ... is simply because we prefer to code the system logics with deep accuracy. We realized some time ago that adapt the logic to another model is simply far too much work. To give you an example, starting now a 757 is like starting a new project, so the differences are numerous (hydraulics, electrics, engines, pressurization ...). And last but not least, we have to deal with numerous different carrier options ! Some more will be present in comparison to PIC V1 ! Regards,Laurent CrenierLevel-D Simulations developper

Makes sense, does anyone know which airlines operate the -300 ?

I think it's great that ye guy are no longer silent about the project. It's great to be able to ask questions and get answers straight from the developers. Thanks guys and keep it up :)John http://homepage.eircom.net/~eamonnmca/images/logo_ba.JPGwww.bavirtual.co.uk Senior Captain Simflight.com Staff Reviewer

Thanks Floris, although that page doesn't distinguish between 300 and 300/ER models.I think nearly all airlines fly the ER now, or maybe they don't?

thanks!

Hi, I've asked this before but my post I think has got buried; Can the -300 (non ER) fly ETOPS ala across the Atlantic via the NATS?Thanks in advance.Best RegardsBoone,[email protected]"Flying a plane is no different from riding a bicycle. Hawkman, As to your follow up questions, They had it hooked to a PFC CirrusII console and unfortunately I couldn't really hear a thing as it was in the middle of a very crowded room. I too was looking to hear that familiar growl once you reach N1 but didn't but thats not to say it wasn't there, I just didn't hear hardly any sounds. The FMC looked exactly like the original and I started to try and build a quick plan but in the absence of any sids/stars I opted just for a quick manual takeoff and landing at LAX. It must have had some updated navdata though as I did see 34L at DEN was there. Keep in mind I tried this not too long after spending an hour in a real 767 sim so my brain was a bit on the mushy side after that experience.
