OT: Catalyst 4.10 and Windows Media Player 9 Problems?

Featured Replies

Ive just switched over the Omega 4.10's and noticed some strange behavior with video playback on my machine...its a greenish blotchy mess when you play a video...some sort of directx incompatibility with these drivers and video playback. (although directx tests seem fine)Im running an ati 9700 aiw.Can anyone else confirm this?Dave

Maybe try reinstalling DirectX?

I am having the same issues, I thought it was a codec problem but I re-installed the DiVx codecs and went as far as re-installing MediaPlayer 9 but no joy.Kevin

Do you have a video on the net that is producing this so I can try it out? So far no problems, but I haven't replayed any videos yet.Glenn

OK, I found some videos, and didn't have any problems with them in Media Player. Check these videos out and see if you still have them. This is mostly in Norway, so the runway markings are in a greenish-yellow, so don't let that throw you:http://home.online.no/~knutss/video.htmGlenn

i uninstalled the omega 410's and installed the ati 410's instead...this got rid of the problem for me with video playback....however, I am now considering going back to an older version i had before because these 410's arent as smooth for me in fs2004 plus they just caused a major hard crash of my system while playing UT2k3 (which never happened to me before).I was previously using omega 3.9's so maybe ill go back. I never tried the 310's...anyone have good luck with the 310's??Dave

This will happen if you have Windows media acceleration checked in your ATI control panel. Uncheck it, and the problem will go away.

there is no such option in the ati applet as you say..never was..either in ati drivers or omegas either..perhaps its there if you have a 9800?..dunno...but in anycase the problem was with the omegas..not the ati's..i no longer have the problem as i am currently using the ati 410's...i dumped the omegas.Dave

If you looked closer, you would have seen such an option in the control panel for the Omegas, and it has in fact been there for a while now. It is contained within the "Options Tab". Underneath the version info there are four options that you can check to enable. The first one is "WMV Acceleration". If you enable this, it can lead to the problems you have described. It does not matter what type of ATI card you have, the ATI OMEGA control panel will have this option.

OK, now you got me confused too :-). Here's a screenie of what I see in the window you mention (I think this is the right one). Could you tell me where I'm looking that's not jiving with where you want us to look? Thanks much :-).Glennhttp://home.cogeco.ca/~gdfs01/ATIOmega1.jpg

I have used the Omega 4.10 and the ATI 4.10 and I can say w/o hesitation that the 3.10 are the best drivers out there .I had issues with flashing in FS9 and system stability. The 3.10 are much more stable for what I use my rig for.Andy

Hmmn,I have found that my performance seems much higher in FS9 since loading the 4.1 drivers on (Omega), BUT, I did have an unexplained crash in the sim last night. I had moved into another centre's range and happened to have the frequency for it on Com 1. Since I wasn't using ATC for this flight, I clicked the "Switch" button to exchange the standby and active frequencies. Bad move apparently. The screen went black, then about 20 seconds later I got the message saying that FS had crashed, with the culprit being the ATC.dll. Never have had that before, but it could have been related to other things I suppose. I think I'll keep them for the time being, but if I start seeing more crashes, I'll go back to the 3.1's.What I am wondering though, are ATI's drivers getting any better now with the 4.1's wrt FS9? Do they yet measure up to Omega's, or are Omega's still better? I'm tempted to stay with the Omega's if for no other reason than they seem to offer MUCH better support than ATI, but if ATI has rectified the majority of their problems with FS9 and are stable with good performance, I might be persuaded to switch. I have a 9800 Pro 256.Thanks!Glenn

Glenn....exactly right...I have the same here, there isnt any option as he desribes, never was...he must be using some sort of "add-on" to his driver set and doesnt realize it...either that or its not the regular "plain vanilla" omega driver..in other words perhaps he's installed the soft-mod version during the installation process? again, dunno.Anyways, i went back to the omega 3.9's...smooth as silk in fs2004 again with zero crashes...i should have learned after all these years to leave well enough alone...if it aint broke dont try to fix it lol...no matter what the general concensus might be :-)Dave>OK, now you got me confused too :-). Yeah, I was actually going to try installing the Soft Mod, but really didn't know what all it entailed, so I opted for the standard. I think I'm glad I did at this point. The last drivers I used were the 3.6's (I think - the ones prior to 3.9), and they were very good, but I have seen a boost in performance with the 4.1's. However, I'm not sure if it's causing a problem or two that I saw last night in FS, and maybe an eventual crash. As I say, I'll run with it for a bit and see what happens (I'm on the 4th of about a 6 leg trip tonight), so we'll see how it goes. I doubt video drivers can affect the atc.dll, but I had a couple of other weird things going on as well, which may be related to the drivers.I'll let you know how I make out tonight, but I know what you mean about leaving well enough alone <>. Let's face it - when it comes to FS, us simmers are almost by definition - tweakers :-) (almost HAVE to be if we want to get much outta this sime :-) ).Thanks - later,Glenn

hehe...true, true! I myself was always partial to the 3.7's for the longest time...the ONLY reason i switched to 3.9 was to rid myself of the flashing menu syndrome in fs2004.Funny thing with my system, but the new 410's were super choppy here...especially in heavy cloud cover if you rolled the plane quickly from side to side it looked as though i was getting 5fps, even though the counter said 24-25 (im locked at 25)...just sooo choppy for me...at least it worked out in the end and im back to smooth simming again.Dave
