Best display settings and refresh rates for FS-9

Featured Replies

Hi All,Could you tell me what you think the best display settings and refresh rates for FS-9?

Display settings depend on your monitor size.I have a 21" CRT and run FS2004 @ 1280x1024x32 and the Monitor refresh rate is set to 85Hz. My only advice is to try to get the refresh rate as high as it will go, and then just play with the resolution until you are happy with the FPS and picture quality.-drew

I tried them all and finally settled on resolution 1280x960x32. You should pick resolution that gives you 4:3 ratio otherwise you may see slightly distorted image.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2, Omega 2.7.90 (4xAA 16xAF)

If you happen to have a LCD flat panel monitor, the rules are different:Only use the native resolution of your panel (likely 1280x1024x32) and 60Hz refresh rate.On a CRT monitor, 1280x960x32 with 85 Hz refresh is a good starting point.

Maybe you can't comparerefreshrate on TFT vs CRT? What does this mean for flicker and picture quality. I would never use 60 Hz on my CRT.

You are right, you cannot really compare since the technologies are different. An LCD screen could look fine at zero refresh rate, since the picture does not decay over time.A CRT needs to be refreshed since the phosphors rely on a cathode gun to light them up many times per second to keep the picture alive. At zero refresh rate, the picture would go black. An LCD monitor at 60 Hz produces a rock stable image with absolutely no flicker.

"An LCD monitor at 60 Hz produces a rock stable image with absolutely no flicker."I'll 2nd that :)My Samsung 213T 21.3"(Just got it last weekend) has a native res of 1600x1200 @ 60Hz. It's flicker free & look's beautiful.
