December 15, 200223 yr Hi,the FPS drops on my machine (Win XP / AMD 1800+ / GF3 / 1gb RAM) from (locked) 20 down to 3-5, if the METAR is updated. What could cause this? I've tried several flights in Europe and the US and got always similar effects.RegardsThomasPS: Similar effect with v1.5
December 15, 200223 yr Commercial Member Hi Thomas,While there is always overhead involved in weather processing, you should not be getting an FPS drop like that. FWIW I have AMD 1500+ test station and I don't notice any frame rate loss at all. I suggest trying to free up some of your resources and you can try the "FORCE IDLE PRIORITY" option which should have less affect on FS performance. Thanks!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
December 15, 200223 yr Author Hi,I already tried the option "FORCE IDLE PRIORITY". But this didn't help. I guess I've a lot of free resources available on my system, so this shouldn't be the problem. But as I said v1.5 already had this problem, why I switched back to FSMeteo. Tried it on a Pentium 2.4g with GF4 Ti4600 -> same result. The FPS always drops down to a fraction of the normal FPS. Maybe a german system problem???Thomas
December 15, 200223 yr That is a strange situation you have Thomas.I have used ActiveSky v1.5 and wxRE without any frame rate drop at all.I run two systems, 1 x WinXP with 2.0gig Intel 256RAM 1 x Win989SE 533mhz 198RAMboth systems have had v1.5 and now wxRE on them, both suffer no frame rate loss. The WinXP system has all sliders in FS2002 maxed outThe Win98SE system has the cloud setting slider maxed at 100%, other sliders are set between 65% and roughly 90%I use the default white cloud set on both. Hope you can find a solution to your problem so that you can enjoy what wxRE has to offer.cheers,David
December 15, 200223 yr Author I know it's strange. Since I enabled the idle option it's better, but still drops to 3-5 FPS for some seconds. I can use it, because it's just for a few seconds. So I can enjoy the product. ;) The cloud representation and transition is just fantastic.Great Job Damian!Thomas
December 15, 200223 yr Commercial Member Thomas,We have a few German beta testers who did not report this... so I don't think it has anything to do with that. Please e-mail me at and we will try to troubleshoot this more... It is strange that you have this problem on 2 machines yet NO ONE has reported this kind of issue before. There is something else wrong happening.-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
December 15, 200223 yr I too am experiencing this same fps loss during updates...it is severe on my annoyingIt happens with and without using rc3Dave Dave Kalin Excel Classes Computer Lessons
December 16, 200223 yr Hi there, what type of internet connections do you have? If it's cable or DSL, you could try changing the speed/duplex mode settings from automatic to 10full or half mode and see, if that helps.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
December 16, 200223 yr I too have the same problem with a DRAMATIC drop in FPS during online METAR updates, and also have had this problem since ver 1.5I'm running Cable internet on a PIII 866, 512mb RAM, 64MB Gforce 4mx 420. I've already tried forcing the network to 10full with no change, even with Idle Priority set. I kill all running background apps including Anti-virus when flying. I'm set at 1024x768x32 video mode with most sliders at about 75% except clouds at 100%.It's not a major problem when flying fixed wing at 30,000+ ft and >400knots, but the stutters make it nearly impossible to fly or land a chopper at 50ft and 10 knots. Any help or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!Other than the stutter, I am extremely pleased with the program and all of its outstanding features!!
December 16, 200223 yr I recall reading somewhere that TAF processing also takes "lots" of power. If you are using online/live data, I believe you can turn TAF processing off?Check your wxRE Settings to see if you have that enabled or disabled. I think it's disabled by default.Just a thought,-Greg
December 16, 200223 yr No Frame rate drop at all for me. It's much smoother than FS Meteo. My specs:P4 2.4G 80G HD, PC2700 DDR ram (512megs).DSL Internet connection
December 16, 200223 yr 1024x768x32 video mode with most sliders at about 75% except clouds at 100%.Ah haaa! a P3 866 with 75% sliders and clouds maxed out! I tried that with a P4 2.4 and there is no way it works, at least not for me. I have to turn my clouds down to a max of 50% otherwise the stutters are way too bad, sound and all.
