May 5, 200323 yr Damian,in regard to the graphical weather planning, how about a simplified display similar to InfoMetar from David Sandberg which would display not only ground station reports in symbolised form but also build a winds aloft diagram (similar to NOAAs offerings). Overlayed on this map, an imported flightplan.For a further dot release or version 3., take the ground/winds aloft display into the 3rd dimension with 3d imported flight plan.Just a cool idea...Cheers,-T

http://www.avsim.com/other/usaribbon.gifTodd IngallsMember of [link:www.grid.org/services/teams/team.htm?id=5E79C613-0A60-4A3B-BDC1-F9EE49F2D4FE]Join the AVSIM Team Fight Against Cancer!]
[/table.----BEGIN FS CODE BLOCK----G:EDDM(DE) a R- FS++ F+ P U+ X C+ H+>++ O+ V-- A+(++) SP?>+++-----END FS CODE BLOCK-----
May 6, 200323 yr Hello Damian,Here are some suggestions for 2.0:- whatever you do, make the user interface as realistic as to what happens in real life. If an all singing, all dancing flight planner package does not exist in real life, then I would prefer we don't have one in the simulation world.- it would be great to have better in-flight weather textual display. It is sometimes hard to read it fast enough as it scrolls by. Some other method would be good.- the ActiveSky WXre voice quality on 122.0 is distorted and too low and needs improvement.- better documentation on how to successfully force destination weather so FS2002 assigns the right airport would be useful. I'm still not certain how this all works. Including a sample flight and mini tutorial would be great. It seems the FS2002 ATIS is different than the ActiveSky WXre.- FS Sky is great but hard to use and the manuals very tough to understand.It's a great utility; keep up the great work.Cheers,Peter
May 6, 200323 yr It would be useful to let the user select how often (in minutes) the in-flight weather text display is made to scroll by. I would set it to more often than the default. And I would like to see more info (the TAF, the METAR, the dynamic weather, the decision to force destination weather, the destination weather, the current weather, etc.) Perhaps the latter can be a "verbose" option.Cheers,Peter
May 6, 200323 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Sunny,Please post your wxre.ini and fsflightmax.ini... Just to see if there is any problem there. Your folder settings look ok since you can see the .met files. May 6, 200323 yr Peter,Your ideas are well taken.1. Voices are made to sound a little distorted. If you would like to try another set, drop me a personal e-mail.2. Force destination by using the Wx Briefing Screen or by entering the destination airport ID in the Force/Destination Weather box and checking the Destination/Force Box.3. The Manual was a huge undertaking, involving over 70 beta testers. We all did the best we could14. If you have any other questions please, please, please post them in a new topic. That's why I am here!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
May 9, 200323 yr Hi,Better in-flight weather textual display. I do agree on this one. I do not know whether Microsoft will upgrade its scrolling text display in the fortcoming new FS but it is really outdated. I assume Damian and his team are not keen to look at FSMeteo but their display gauge is a very convenient one. Could some bright mind out there think of something in a gauge form which can be added at will by the user to display weather information.In that respect any discussion going on with Michael Franzeskakis the developer of Servinfo? There could be a lot of common points there. For example:- weather display could be modelled in a similar form or even integrated to Servinfo's window. By the way I like there gauge install utility.- Servinfo is displaying weather datas in both written and graphical form. Any possible cooperation there to avoid discrepancies during online flights?I am sure there are other opportunities there.Michael
May 11, 200323 yr >Peter,>Your ideas are well taken.Thanks.>2. Force destination by using the Wx Briefing Screen or by>entering the destination airport ID in the Force/Destination>Weather box and checking the Destination/Force Box.Yes, thanks, I know all that and it is working well for me. I was looking for some more information coming from ActiveSky at the point in time it is starting to force the weather to that of the destination. It could as simple as adding the word "Forced" in the scroll text display. That lets me know things are working, confirms the destination weather, and helps me predict which active runway FS2002 will choose.>3. The Manual was a huge undertaking, involving over 70 beta>testers. We all did the best we could1And you guys did very well. What I was thinking is that if you had a test flight described in a simple tutorial, it would be a test exercise for anyone that is having trouble. The tutorial would describe the departing location, destination, settings, etc.>4. If you have any other questions please, please, please post>them in a new topic. That's why I am here!Two things could be slightly better documented (I found them in the Web FAQ, but could be added to the docs):1. the decreased visibility to fix the FS2002 "blue band of sky along the horizon" bug. That decrease in visibility messes up the altitude minimums on a marginal approach.2. the increased turbulence. It is best to change that parameter in fs2002.cfg to 0.2 as indicated in the FAQ.What really bugs me sometimes is that there will be a 20 knot wind yet all the trees at the airport are motionless. Of course that won't be feasible for Microsoft to fix until there is a lot more processor power available on the desktop. Perhaps FS2010 :-)Thanks!Peter
May 12, 200323 yr Damian,Thank you for providing this opportunity to your users. The main feature I would like to see if a suggested flight level based on winds aloft and direction of flight. It doesn't even have to be based on a flight plan, but just in the general direction of the flight.Regards,Dave Vega dv Win 10 Pro || i7-8700K || 32GB || ASUS Z370-P MB || NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11Gb || 2 960 PRO 1TB, 840 EVO My Files in the AVSIM Library
May 13, 200323 yr I think it might be useful for ActiveSky to package a few sets of complete wx data for download and use. It would be nice to include some real aviation charts (i.e. winds aloft, surface depictions, prog charts, and radar summaries) for the same time frame as well.Having some typical (or atypical) wx packages on the shelf would be a nice thing. Challenging canned wx environmenta captured from the likes of a real Nor'Easter, a hurricane, or from a major fog event etc would interest me and probably others. The wx "scenarios" could be zipped up and uploaded to avsim and/or flightsim.com for distribution there.CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
May 19, 200323 yr why not speak with Jeppessen Weather Services. They provide weather and winds aloft info to many airlines for flight planning. It might actually be cheaper to access their weather server, which is probably private, than it would be to set up your own.
May 20, 200323 yr Damian,I'm also looking forward to the new MSFS along with ActiveSky at her side refining the weather environment. If I read correctly, MS is indicating that there will finally be fronts moving across the world in FS2004. I guess that is one of my gripes about the current weather engines. I guess what I'm asking for is for a more global weather picture. There is nothing quite as humbling as working your way around ominous weather fronts extending several hundreds of miles. Paralleling a line of thunderstorms in real life at FL270 and seeing the tops still above you spitting out lightning bolts is something to behold. Maybe ActiveSky could help bring that experience to the virtual world so virtual pilots could get a sense of the impending doom one would meet if they decided to venture in! Tall order? I'm not sure....you guys always seem to pull off amazing feats. :)All of the other items on your list seem to indicate that you will once again set the bar!Best Regards,Randyhttp://www.flight1software.com/ut/UT_FORUM_BANNER.jpg
May 23, 200323 yr How about tower to report RVR values for the runways and improving the use of RFI(Runway Friction Index)?
