Converting Flight Plans for AS to Read

Featured Replies

Just got a link to a web site that allows you to input a valid flight plan into their form, then converts it to a .PLN file for MS and Active Sky.I know alot of you use FSBuild, FSNav and a few others for this purpose, but I've been using http://flightaware.com/live/ which gives you real time flight tracking and their respective flight plan. So if you don't use a flight planner, or want a site that allows you to simply copy and paste the flight plan you see elsewhere (ie. Flight Aware) to convert it to MS format, go here: http://www.fsroute.com/Example, CHILY1 IGM TYSSN1 for a SWA flight from KPHX to KLAS http://flightaware.com/live/flight/SWA320 Put the plan in with that format and you get a .PLN file to save to your flights folder.Happy Flying!

Hey Jim,First off, Thanks to Damian and the whole team, what a holiday present. You guys should have at least let it be donationware for all your work...Now that I can wipe your butts from my lips LOL, can someone tell me what i should use it FSBuild to point to ASV6 for the winds aloft data during flightplanning? I can't seem to get it to work. Thanks in advance,-PaulLiquid CooledAMD 4000 San Diego2 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2Dual 7800 GTX 24 inch widescreen dual 19 inch LCDRaid-0psolksig.jpg

Hi Paul,From Ernie himself during Beta Testing:"You just need to change the location of the ASV folder to the new ASv6 folder in the 'Export Directories' section of Fsbuild.I have been using it with all the AS6 Beta's so far with no probs."Any adult beverages can be sent to my home address in Warren, Michigan!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Thanks for the quick answer Jim, you guys are great... I am most excited about the wxr-generated textures... Woo hooo So I take it I would load launch ASV6, launch FSB, plan flight, import plan to FSB, process, start FS... Is that right? What do you like, I am a Vodka man personally... Thanks! I have FSBuild, but when using that new Flight Aware web site, I wanted to use those real time current flight plans. The problem was opening FS9 just to make the plan, which is a hassle as you guys know, just to have to close it again for Active Sky. Kinda neat, and all the forum reading I do, I never knew this site existed. Here's the usual suspects just in case anyone else doesn't have them:Free Planner - http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/Nav Site w/Terminal Charts - http://www.airnav.com/airports/More Terminal Charts - http://myairplane.com/databases/approach/index.phpGoogle-Interfaced Weather and Map site - http://www.runwayfinder.com/Thanks for tacking it!

>Free Planner - http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/Just to warn users that this site often gives you 'suspect' flight plans. For example the flight plan from KLAX to Hongkong is absolutely ridiculous (close to 1000 miles longer than it should be). After testing it on different routes I decided I have no confidence in it. However the flightaware site is absolutely superb.Michael J.

Well, I've really only used Route Finder a hand full of times. When I did it was for fairly short plans, 400 nm or less. It always seemed okay to me if I checked it out on a flight map. Too bad though.Aside from this new Flight Aware, I almost always just create my own flights with my own maps (ie. IFR Enroute). I have FSBuild 2.2, but never could figure out the fuel planner, plus I like to visualize my plan on a map with other waypoints and airports. Kinda like FSNav, but I'm not spending anymore on flight planners unless they're professional, LOL

Chris,I also use Flightaware plans, but I don't like to lose the extra functions that FSBuild gives me, like fuel loads and winds aloft data. Here's what I do:I start ASv6 and let it download the latest weather. I then save the wx file so it can be read by FSBuild.I open flightaware and copy the flight plan to the clipboard. Then I start FSBuild and paste the clipboard into the light blue FLIGHT PLAN text box. I edit the pasted text to add the departure and destination airports since FSBuild requires them ... in your example the text would read KPHX CHILY1 IGM TYSSN1 KLASI then enter the cruise flight level stated in the flight plan into the FSbuild Cruise text box. Clicking the build button writes my PLN file and produces my flight release sheet.I then import the plan into ASv6 and process. Start FS9 and presto, the best of ASv6, FSB, Flightaware, and FS9 without having to restart FS9 to load the textures.Bruce

Hi Michael,I use Routefinder a lot and while it does sometimes throw a wrong flight plan I find it usually pretty good, at least for Europe.Intrigued by your route I just tried it.FSNav point to ponit shows a distance of 6294.6nm, Routefinder in summery shows 6642.Plotting the route out in FSNav it looks reasonable to me, considering it uses airways and not 'direct tos'.Routefinder tries to provide the shortest route using airways so those routes may be different to real World route where airlines can negotiate some 'direct tos'.Rgds

Hey,Jim,happy holidays to you. Just an fyi, I have not been able to get ASV6 to work with FSB either. If anyone does get an answer, please share..Thanks and Happy Holidays to all,-PaulLiquid CooledAMD 4000 San Diego2 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2Dual 7800 GTX 24 inch widescreen dual 19 inch LCDRaid-0psolksig.jpg
