June 27, 200619 yr Hi, is there a way to make the horizon line in the distance blend (look blurry) as if it was a poluted day? ALL the time? I don't like the 'hard horizon' line in the distance. I would like to see the blur effect (which you ALWAYS get below 10000FT) how can I do this? I've read almost every post concerning this issue, and visibility distance, FS2004 limitations and/or video card settings are not helping me avoid this. I just want to know if there is a general concensus on what the cause for this is and how to fix it.Thanks,
June 27, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi, Try to use smooth horizon sky set in asg, this can improve the horizon.ThanksChris Willishttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg Kind RegardsChris Willis
June 27, 200619 yr Author Hi,Sorry, I think you misunderstood the question or I didn't explain correctly what the problem is. I took some screenshots so it is easier to understand.1) If I set visibility to 30miles, I get a hazy/blurred look in the horizon that I like. However, over 10000Ft that hazy look changes into a cartoonish look that makes FS2004 look horrible. Here are the screenshotsUNDER 10000FThttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/151787.jpgOVER 10000FThttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/151789.jpgNow, playing around I found a way to fix this. If I go to the Weather menu, select the Advanced weather dialog and then go to the Visibility tab, if I extend the visibility layer to 99999 then everything is perfect! here's the value I change, and then the screenshot of how everything looks. See? poluted skies is more like real life.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/151790.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/151791.jpg
June 27, 200619 yr Author Will try this tonight. However, I use WX-Influenced auto-submit, what can I do to still autosubmit but keep the smooth horizon from changing?
June 27, 200619 yr If anyone ever fixes this I would be so greateful!!!!!There are some skysets which work wonderfully. Even at high altitude the sky blends in perfectly with the ground. Is there a way of leaving the rest as it as WX defined, but limiting the skysets to only the ones which blend. Also, have you got a list of the ones which work well, or is it a case of trawling through them ourselves and making notes of the ones which look good. The hard horizon in FS is just aweful. Truly horrible.I was amazed the first time I ran AS6 after the upgrade, and saw a well depicted soft horizon!!!!! Only to be dissapointed a few days later when it loaded up a different skyset with an awfull hard one again. Could you not put in a "only soft horizon" option?????
June 27, 200619 yr Author Neil is right!Power users can 'eventually' solve this after much tweaking, but less experienced users will have a hard time. Smooth horizons its a must.Neil, I think you can do what you are proposing. It's actually very easy. 1) Start Active Sky Graphics2) Click the selection details option (little magnifying glass)3) You will now see two panes. The one on the right has several options. Look under Sky Color for the one that reads 'Day' and click on it.4) Now, on the left pane select the Seasonal Smooth Horizon 0001 texture5) Make sure you click the green checkmark now, (the one that reads 'Select this item') 6) Now click on the other green checkmark, the one that reads Send to FS7) When finished, click on the save theme option. leave Full Sky Theme selected and input the name: WX Influenced (Smooth Horizon)Click SAVE (Now, this is VERY important, on the RIGHT pane, make sure, before saving that the Day option, under sky color is UNCHECKED so it is not overwritten the next time this theme is autosubmited)8) Now, open AS6 as you normally would before a flight and 'change' the autosubmit WX Influenced theme for the one that reads WX Influenced (Smooth Horizon)I'm at work, using my laptop (where Active Sky is installed, I use it via WideFS) so I was able to create the above instructions for you to try. However, I've not tried them myself... however, based on what I've read so far in the forums it seems that following the above steps will solve the hard horizon problem and the sky and ground will blend nicely.
June 27, 200619 yr Hi All,Has anyone set the maximum visibility to 30 in ASv6 and tried? If you do this remember to re-start both ASv6 and FS04.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://dot.kelder.net:8080/fseconomy/
June 28, 200619 yr Author Ok, I have something to report guys...I Finally, once and for all... and and it MEAN really.. really, fixed this thing.Install DAY, DAWN and DUSK textures from a software in the Avsim library called BlueSky 2Then..Modify your suneffects.cfg file in the FS9 Root folder and change RenderGlow=1 to RenderGlow=0Then..Change Maximum visibility in fs2004 from 60 miles to 80, cloud drawing distance to 40 miles, no 2D Impostor clouds and maximum coverage.Then..In fs9.cfg make this little change: (This will prevent clouds from flickering)TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=3.90000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=3.90000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=1You'll get the most amazing effects you've ever seen in FS2004... please don't do this if you don't feel confortable changing, backup and restoring things in fs2004.Want to see some screenshots?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/151808.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/151809.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/151810.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/151811.jpg
June 29, 200619 yr To my knowledge the magic number is 29 miles for horizontal visibility up to which you get smooth horizon. So, in this case with setting of 30 miles you would get the sharp horizon line.Hope this is what you meant,CheersDom
June 29, 200619 yr Author Well, the above shots have a smooth horizon right? well visibility is set to 59!!! It's fixed for me... I have the most stunning visuals I've ever had in FS2004.
